The members of the Kingsland Lodge , No . _ 6 < yi announce a Ball , on Tuesday next , in connection with ' the lodge . H . R-H . the Duchess of Albany has graciously consented to distribute the prizes to the Volunteer Medical Staff Corps . The ceremony will take place at the

Guildhall on the 17 th inst . The Prefect of Genoa gave a grand banquet on the 23 rd ult , to Bro . Admiral Sir William Hewitt , V . C , 1 < C . B . and the principal officers of the British Channel Squadron , which left the port the day following . It is understood that Bro . Lord Randolph

Churchill , M . P ., will be chairman of the Royal Commission vvhich is to be appointed to investigate the alleged charges of irregularity against the Metropolitan Board of Works . Bro . Lord and Lady Algernon Gordon-Lennox entertained the Duke of Cambridge at dinner at their residence in Pont-street , on Tuesday evening , Bro . Lord

and Lady Brooke being among the guests invited to meet his Royal Highness . Bro . Major-Gen . Sir D . C , Drury-Lowe , K . C . B ., presided at the second meeting , on the 23 rd ult ., of the Aldershot Military Society , when the ReV . E . Warre , D . D ., Head Master of Eton , delivered a lecture on "The History of Tactics , " and was cordially thanked for his interesting address .

The Oueen and Court returned to Windsor Castle from Buckingham Palace on Saturday last , but they will return to town towards the latter end of next week on account of the Drawing Room which is to be held on Friday next . Bro . Hyde Clarke , Treasurer , presided at the

annual meeting , held on Saturday last at the offices of the Society of Arts , Adelphi , of the Newspaper Press Fund . It was announced that Bro . Sir Edward Clarke , Q . C , M . P ., H . M . 's Solicitor General , vvould preside at the next anniversary dinner . On a motion for the adoption of the report , the meeting was adjourned for a month .

Many of the friends of Bro . J . H . Clynds , ( one of the Bob Brierley ' s of the Olympic Theatre ) will be sorry to hear that he has lately been suffering from a most severe indisposition . He had complained of not feeling well for some little time past , and on Tuesday , the 14 th of February , he felt unable to attend Sir John Gorst ' s

Installation at the Drury Lane Lodge , and telegraphed his apologies , but on the following day his medical advisers found him so seriously ill that they at once ordered his immediate and complete suspension from all business . Bro . Clynds is novv , however , on a fair way to recovery , and hopes soon to be at work again .

A lodge of instruction has been formed in connection with the Hendon Lodge , No . 2206 . Bro . W . A . Scurrah , P . P . G . S . of W . Middx ., the popular W . M . of 2206 , P . Bro . the Bishop of Peterborough has forwarded a second subscription of £ 100 to the Clergy Distress Fund . The annual meeting of the Albert Hall Corporation vvas held on Monday afternoon , Bro . the Earl of Lathom , among others , being present . The report for the

past year was submitted and adopted . Prince George of Wales left Malta per P . and O . steamer Sutlej for London , on Monday , in order to be present at the silver wedding of the Prince and Princess of Wales . The Mercers' Company have voted a sum of

100 guineas towards the erection of workshops in connection with Bro . the Rev . Dr . Stainer's Homes for Deaf and Dumb Children in the Pentonville-road . Bro . Lord George Hamilton , M . P ., First Lord of the Admiralty , has consented to preside at the 57 th anniversary dinner of the Royal United Service Institution , Whitehall-yard , which vvill take place this day ( Friday ) .

Bro . Lord Herschell presided at a meeting , held at the Board of Trade on Saturday last , of the Committee appointed to consider the working of the Trade Marks and Designs portions of the Patents , & c , Act of 1883 , with a view to the consideration of their final report .

We are glad to hear that Bro . Lord Magheramorne , who was taken suddenly ill on the 24 th ult ., with a severe chill , was better the following day , and that the medical report as to his lordship's condition has since been favourable .

The Prince of Wales , after visiting the Crown Prince of Germany at San Remo , returned to Cannes . On his return homewards his Royal Highness made a brief visit to Bro . Sir Frederick Johnstone , Bart ., at Monte Carlo , and was expected to arrive in London either the ist or 2 nd instant .

As the State carriage of Bro . the Lord Mayor was entering the courtyard of the Central Criminal Court at the . Old Bailey , on Monday , one of the springs snapped , and the body of the vehicle was suddenly thrown on one side , to the discomfort of his lordship . Fortunately , no harm was done .

Bro . the Earl of Mount-Edgcumbe ( Lord Steward ) and Bro . Sir H . Drummond Wolff , G . C . M . G ., K . C . B ., had the honour of being included in the Royal dinner party at Windsor Castle , on Monday . Previous to dinner , the latter was introduced and kissed hands on appointment as H . M . ' s Minister at the Court of Teheran . The second Annual Ball of the Emblematic

Lodge , No . 1321 , was held at the Freemasons' Tavern , on Thursday evening , the 23 rd ult . Great praise was due to the Committee for their exertions to make the ball a success . Nearly 200 ladies and gentlemen attended . Dancing commenced at 9 p . m . to the strains of Busby's band , and kept up vvith great spirit to 4 a . m ., with the exception of the interval for supper . The supper programme was very ably carried out under the presidency of the W . M ., Bro . W .

R . Bayell , assisted by the following brethren : Bros . Englefield , I . P . M . ; Forrest , P . M . ; Hunter , P . M . ; Kirkaldy , P . M . ; Esling , S . W . ; Price , J . W . ; Potter , S . D . ; Kent , I . G . ; also Bros . Matthews and Mulford , the last named being the indefatigable M . C . At the conclusion of the supper the W . M . gave one or two appropriate toasts and the company returned to the ball-room to finish their enjoyment .

The danger of railway ventilators was exemplified in a case heard on Thursday in the Clerkenwell Policecourt . A cab horse bolted in Euston-road , and came into collision with a pony and trap . The pony was so much injured that it had to be shot , and the owner sued the cab company for damages , but as it was shown that the

cabhorse had been frightened into bolting by an outburst of smoke and steam trom a railway ventilator , a verdict was given for the defendants . The judge said he was surprised when he saw it argued in the House of Lords that these " blowholes " were in no way dangerous . His own opinion on the subject was such that he invariably cautioned his friends who had to drive past these railway ventilators .

PRESENTATION TO BRO . G , P . BERTINI . —At the meeting of the Covent Garden Lodge of Instruction , on the 23 rd ult ., and which is held at the Criterion , Piccadilly , every Thursday evening , Bro . G . P . Bertini vvas presented with an illuminated vote of thanks in a frame of oak and gold , from the members ofthe lodge of Instruction . The vote of thanks was an extract from the minutes

of the 12 th January , viz .: "It was proposed by Bro . W . C . Smith , Pnceptor , that a cordial vote of thanks be given to Bro . G . P . Bertini , manager of the Criterion , Piccadilly , for the great kindness and courtesy he has always shewn towards the brethren of the Covent Garden Lodge for several years past . That Bro . G . Reynolds , the Secretary , be ordered to enter the vote on

the minutes , and that he be requested to communicate the result to Bro . G . P . Bertini , with the hearty and fraternal greetings of the lodge . The proposition was seconded by Bro . G . Reynolds , Secretary , and carried unanimously . " The Secretary , vvith a few appropriate words , handed the testimonial to Bro . G . P . Bertini , saying that he hoped that he would be spared many years , and when looking at

thehttle present it would remind him that he had all the good wishes of the brethren , for his health and prosperity . Bro . G . P . Bertini , in acknowledging the vote of thanks , thanked the brethren for their kindness and thoughtfulness , and said he should always prize the gift , not only for the taste displayed in the illumination of the words , but also for their kind expressions therein . It was the first he had ever received .

_ Mayor of Hythe for distribution among the poor of that borough . Bro . Sir Matthew White Ridley , Bart ., M . P ., presided at a meeting on Wednesday of the Royal Commission appointed to enquire into the Civil Service Establishments .

Bro . Viscount and Viscountess Wolseley and Bro . Sir Michael and Lady Hicks-Beach arrived at Windsor Castle on Wednesday , and had the honour of dining with the Queen and Royal Family . Bros . Lord Halsbury ( Lord Chancellor of England ) , Lord George Hamilton , Lord Ashbourne ( Lord Chancellor of Ireland ) , and Sir M . E . Hicks-Beach , Bart ., attended the Cabinet Council at the Foreign Office on Saturday last .

The Trinity Corporation have just entered into a contract with Sir VV . A . Rose and Co ., of Upper Thamesstreet and Bankside , for the supply of colza oil for use in English Lighthouses during the present year . —Public Ledger . Bro . John Larkin presided at the 53 rd Annual

Festival of the Fishmongers and Poulterers' Benevolent Institution at the Albion Tavern , Aldersgate-street , on Tuesday . There vvas a numerous company , and subscriptions were announced amounting to over £ 600 , the Chairman heading the list with £ 100 .

The Princess of Wales , accompanied b y her daughters the Princesses Louise , Victoria , and Maud , honoured Bro . the Earl and Countess of Lathom at dinner on Tuesday evening at the Royal House , Olympia , Kensington , and afterwards witnessed the Paris Hippodrome performance .

A Committee has been formed of local brethren , meeting at a lodge of instruction , held under the authority of the Hervey Lodge , No . 1692 , for the purpose of arranging a banquet for Freemasons , to celebrate the Silver Wedding of his Royal Highness the Grand Master , to be held at the White Hart Hotel , Bromley , on Saturday , the ioth inst ., at 7 o ' clock precisely . 1 he Provincial Grand Master , Earl Amherst , has been asked to preside .

Bro . the Lord Mayor presided at a meeting at the Mansion House , on Tuesday , of the Mansion House Committee of the Police Convalescent Fund , and Metropolitan and City Police Testimonial , when it was decided to hand over the amount collected to the Commissioners of Police for the maintenance of the Convalescent Home at Dover , which has been presented as a free gift to the said Commissioners , which will be under the same management as the Police Orphanage .

Bro . Lord Wantage presided at the general meeting , held at the Royal United Service Institution on Tuesday , of the National Rifle Association . There vvas a large attendance , and it was announced that the annual meeting of the Association at Wimbledon , as far as

present appearances went , would no longer take place there . The Duke of Cambridge subsequently arrived and occupied the chair , which vvas vacated by Bro . Lord Wantage . The annual report vvas adopted , and his Royal Highness was unanimously re-elected President of the Association .

Count Herbert Bismarck , on arriving in Dublin , on Wednesday , was met at Westland-row Station by the Lord Lieutenant , whose guest he will be during his sojourn . In the afternoon , Count Bismarck , accompanied by Bro . the Duke of Abercorn , Grand Master of Ireland , visited the Masonic Female Orphan School , where the children , numbering upwards of 60 , sang " God save the Oueen "

, and cheers were given for the Emperor of Germany . The Count expressed his gratification with the appearance and admirable discipline of the children , and , having signed his name in the visitors' book , promised to mention to the Emperor of Germany the greeting vvith which his Imperial Majesty ' s name was received . On Wednesday night Count Bismarck was present at the Drawing Room held by Lord

and Lady Londonderry . CHURCH EMIGRATION SOCIETY ( 9 , Victoria Chambers , Westminster ) . —The protected party of Single Girls—for whom employment has been provided in Australia by the Society ' s correspondents , to which they are sent out under care of a Matron—assembled on Thursday , the 23 rd ult ., at the Emigrants' Home , Blackwall , where

excellent arrangements had been made for their reception . A service was held after tea , and an impressive address delivered by the Hon . Secretary of the Society , Bro . Rev . E . M . Tomlinson , who , with the Secretary , Bro . Major C . A . Cooper , superintended the embarkation of the party the following morning on board the steamship Orient , at Tilbury , and proceeded vvith them as far as Plymouth . The

Orient Company has met the Society in a most liberal manner , giving them the exclusive use of the deck-house ( the best part of the . ship , so cool for the Red Sea and Tropics ) . A great and welcome addition to the enjoyment of the voyage has been , in the kindest spirit , made by Bro . G . C . Finnis ( of the eminent house of Finnis , Fisher , and Co ., Billiter-avenue ) , who sent on board a separate box of

luxuries for each member of the party , his thoughtfulness extending from preserves and condensed milk to eau de cologne . There were also at Blackwall and on board to see that every detail had been attended to Miss C . E . Denison , the indefatigable Hon . Secretary of the Ladies' Committee

and Miss Cooper , Assistant Secretary , besides Mrs . General Lester , Miss Stuart , and other memoers of the Council and different Committees . Bro . Major Cooper earnestly appeals for subscriptions to assist in enlarging the field of the Society's operations , and will be happy to give information to intending emigrants .

As the State carriage of Bro . the Lord Mayor was entering the courtyard of the Central Criminal Court at the . Old Bailey , on Monday , one of the springs snapped , and the body of the vehicle was suddenly thrown on one side , to the discomfort of his lordship . Fortunately , no harm was done .

Bro . the Earl of Mount-Edgcumbe ( Lord Steward ) and Bro . Sir H . Drummond Wolff , G . C . M . G ., K . C . Lodge , No . 1321 , was held at the Freemasons' Tavern , on Thursday evening , the 23 rd ult . Great praise was due to the Committee for their exertions to make the ball a success . Nearly 200 ladies and gentlemen attended . Dancing commenced at 9 p . m . to the strains of Busby's band , and kept up vvith great spirit to 4 a . m ., with the exception of the interval for supper . The supper programme was very ably carried out under the presidency of the W . M ., Bro . W .

The danger of railway ventilators was exemplified in a case heard on Thursday in the Clerkenwell Policecourt . A cab horse bolted in Euston-road , and came into collision with a pony and trap . The pony was so much injured that it had to be shot , and the owner sued the cab company for damages , but as it was shown that the

cabhorse had been frightened into bolting by an outburst of smoke and steam trom a railway ventilator , a verdict was given for the defendants . The judge said he was surprised when he saw it argued in the House of Lords that these " blowholes " were in no way dangerous . His own opinion on the subject was such that he invariably cautioned his friends who had to drive past these railway ventilators .

BERTINI . —At the meeting of the Covent Garden Lodge of Instruction , on the 23 rd ult ., and which is held at the Criterion , Piccadilly , every Thursday evening , Bro . G . P . Bertini vvas presented with an illuminated vote of thanks in a frame of oak and gold , from the members ofthe lodge of Instruction . The vote of thanks was an extract from the minutes

of the 12 th January , viz .: "It was proposed by Bro . W . C . Smith , Pnceptor , that a cordial vote of thanks be given to Bro . G . P . Bertini , manager of the Criterion , Piccadilly , for the great kindness and courtesy he has always shewn towards the brethren of the Covent Garden Lodge for several years past . That Bro . G . Reynolds , the Secretary , be ordered to enter the vote on

the minutes , and that he be requested to communicate the result to Bro . G . P . Bertini , with the hearty and fraternal greetings of the lodge . The proposition was seconded by Bro . G . Reynolds , Secretary , and carried unanimously . " The Secretary , vvith a few appropriate words , handed the testimonial to Bro . G . P . Bertini , saying that he hoped that he would be spared many years , and when looking at

thehttle present it would remind him that he had all the good wishes of the brethren , for his health and prosperity . Bro . G . P . Bertini , in acknowledging the vote of thanks , thanked the brethren for their kindness and thoughtfulness , and said he should always prize the gift , not only for the taste displayed in the illumination of the words , but also for their kind expressions therein . It was the first he had ever received .

The Princess of Wales , accompanied b y her daughters the Princesses Louise , Victoria , and Maud , honoured Bro . the Earl and Countess of Lathom at dinner on Tuesday evening at the Royal House , Olympia , Kensington , and afterwards witnessed the Paris Hippodrome performance .

A Committee has been formed of local brethren , meeting at a lodge of instruction , held under the authority of the Hervey Lodge , No . 1692 , for the purpose of arranging a banquet for Freemasons , to celebrate the Silver Wedding of his Royal Highness the Grand Master , to be held at the White Hart Hotel , Bromley , on Saturday , the ioth inst ., at 7 o ' clock precisely . 1 he Provincial Grand Master , Earl Amherst , has been asked to preside .

Bro . the Lord Mayor presided at a meeting at the Mansion House , on Tuesday , of the Mansion House Committee of the Police Convalescent Fund , and Metropolitan and City Police Testimonial , when it was decided to hand over the amount collected to the Commissioners of Police for the maintenance of the Convalescent Home at Dover , which has been presented as a free gift to the said Commissioners , which will be under the same management as the Police Orphanage .

Bro . Lord Wantage presided at the general meeting , held at the Royal United Service Institution on Tuesday , of the National Rifle Association . There vvas a large attendance , and it was announced that the annual meeting of the Association at Wimbledon , as far as

present appearances went , would no longer take place there . The Duke of Cambridge subsequently arrived and occupied the chair , which vvas vacated by Bro . Lord Wantage . The annual report vvas adopted , and his Royal Highness was unanimously re-elected President of the Association .

Count Herbert Bismarck , on arriving in Dublin , on Wednesday , was met at Westland-row Station by the Lord Lieutenant , whose guest he will be during his sojourn . In the afternoon , Count Bismarck , accompanied by Bro . the Duke of Abercorn , Grand Master of Ireland , visited the Masonic Female Orphan School , where the children , numbering upwards of 60 , sang " God save the Oueen "

, and cheers were given for the Emperor of Germany . The Count expressed his gratification with the appearance and admirable discipline of the children , and , having signed his name in the visitors' book , promised to mention to the Emperor of Germany the greeting vvith which his Imperial Majesty ' s name was received . On Wednesday night Count Bismarck was present at the Drawing Room held by Lord

and Lady Londonderry . CHURCH EMIGRATION SOCIETY ( 9 , Victoria Chambers , Westminster ) . —The protected party of Single Girls—for whom employment has been provided in Australia by the Society ' s correspondents , to which they are sent out under care of a Matron—assembled on Thursday , the 23 rd ult ., at the Emigrants' Home , Blackwall , where

excellent arrangements had been made for their reception . A service was held after tea , and an impressive address delivered by the Hon . Secretary of the Society , Bro . Rev . E . M . Tomlinson , who , with the Secretary , Bro . Major C . A . Cooper , superintended the embarkation of the party the following morning on board the steamship Orient , at Tilbury , and proceeded vvith them as far as Plymouth . The

Orient Company has met the Society in a most liberal manner , giving them the exclusive use of the deck-house ( the best part of the . ship , so cool for the Red Sea and Tropics ) . A great and welcome addition to the enjoyment of the voyage has been , in the kindest spirit , made by Bro . G . C . Finnis ( of the eminent house of Finnis , Fisher , and Co ., Billiter-avenue ) , who sent on board a separate box of

luxuries for each member of the party , his thoughtfulness extending from preserves and condensed milk to eau de cologne . There were also at Blackwall and on board to see that every detail had been attended to Miss C . E . Denison , the indefatigable Hon . Secretary of the Ladies' Committee

and Miss Cooper , Assistant Secretary , besides Mrs . General Lester , Miss Stuart , and other memoers of the Council and different Committees . Bro . Major Cooper earnestly appeals for subscriptions to assist in enlarging the field of the Society's operations , and will be happy to give information to intending emigrants .
