The musical arrangements were under the direction of Bro . Sydney Jamieson , assisted by Bros . ljames Horncastle and Roland Henry , Miss Emily Rasey , and Miss Masie Riversdale . Bro . Arthur W . Briggs , P . P . G . Org . Bucks , ably presided at the pianoforte , and during the banquet played some beautiful selections , and his efforts were much appreciated . The W . M ., Bro . Charles Loram , was initiated in the Salisbury Lodge in 1 S 94 , and immediately after he was initiated he was given a collar , as at that time the lodge had very few members , and he has since filled all the positions up to the chair . Our
brother has been an ardent supporter of the three Institutions from the date of his initiation , and he is going up as Steward for the forthcoming festival of the Boys ' Institution with a substantial sum . As a member of the Craft , he possesses a sound knowledge of his duties , perfection in the ritual , an impressive style , geniality of manner , and readiness of speech , which mark him as one of the successes in the annals of theiSalisbury Lodge , and , in conclusion , we beg to tender our hearty congratulations to the members upon their good fortune in securing' the services of so eloquent a W . M ., and the lodge , we feel sure , is quite safe in his hands .

The minutes of the previous meeting were read and confirmed , and a ballot taken for Mr . David Dixon Marshall , who was duly initiated .
All Masonic business being ended , the lodgi was clos » d , and the brethren joined their guests—Miss Cooper , Mrs . Kingsbury . Mrs . Dibb , Mis . Linney , Mrs . Berry , Mrs . Payne , J . Evendon , C . Hutt , H . B . Guernsey , G . S . Starnes , and A . Helwood . The dinner was served in the Caledonian Salon . .
The toast of "The Queen" was given by the W . M . and duly honoured . Reference was made to the gracious and sympathetic interest her Majesty had evinced n the work of her ' -oldiers . The toast of ' H . R . H . the Prince of Wales " was received with enthusiasm truly Masonic . An excellent musical programme was in the hands of Bro . J . J . Berry , A . D . C , to
which the following contributed : Miss Ethel Winn , Miss Ella M . Johnstone , Mr . Arthur E . Webb , Bro . j . J . Berry , Bro . J . Briggs , Bro . Gurney Russell , Bro . Tom Burgess , and Bro . W . Amies King . The toast of "The W . M ., the Chairman , " was ably dealt with by Bro . G . G . Symons , P . M . He pointed out the good work Bro . Taylor had done for the lodge and his popularity was only what might be expected . The W . M . suitably replied .
At this juncture a telegram was received from Bro . W . Briggs , I . P . M ., who was on the Continent , wishing all piesent a happy evening , and regretting his absence . Bro . Symons seized the opportunity to speak of the virtues of the LP . M ., and the health of Bro . W . Briggs { in absentia ) was enthusiastically drunk . In proposing the toast of "The Ladies , " Bro . W . G . Mills , P . M ., Sec , said he felt relieved in some measure of his responsibity by the knowledge of the fact that no one could propose so important a toast in a satisfactory manner . No doubt many ladies present that night expected to gain some light upon the nature of Freemasonry ; ladies '
ideas on this subject were naturally very vague , but he _ could tell them that though Freemasonry was not a religion it was calculated to minimise the baser side of man and to develop and cultivate the better qualities . On behalf of the W . M . and officers and other members of the lodge he wished to say how exceedingly pleased they were to have the ladies with them that night . A good deal had recently been said about woman ' s rights . On this poii . t he felt tempted to say like Mr . Choate , the American Ambassador , who , when proposing the toast of the ladies a short time ago , with uplifted glass , exclaimed , " Woman , formerly our superior , now our equal . "
Bro . John Briggs , D . of C , congratulated the ladies upon the speaker selected to propose their toast . Perhaps the brethren were a liitle disappointed that nignt that they were not able , as on previous occasions , to greet the ladies resplendent in their colours and decorations , but somehow the point seemed to have been forcibly driven home that no colours , no ornaments , could compare with those round them that night . They would , no doubt , be glad to hear that this was to be the last toast of the evening , but this was not due to lack of courtesy ; they were rather animated by the spirit which inspired the poet when he wrote these lines" So , as at English feasts we do regreet
The daintiest last—to make the end most sweet . " He had been assured by many of the ladies present that they had spent a pleasant evening , and he , therefore , felt justified on behalf of the ladies injthanking the brethren for their welcome . The meeting dispersed shortly after 11 o ' clock , and the W . M . and brethren are to be congratulated upen a highly pleasant and successful gathering .
