province it had been for years to acknowledge the toast . He ( Bro . Keyser ) undertook the task with very great dilliience , although on such an occasion it was very easy for anyone to do so . He first thanked the noble Chairman for his kindness in coming forward to preside at this

festival , and he congratulated him on the magnificent way in which his chairmanship was supported . On behalf of the Institution he thanked the ladies and brethren who had come forward as Stewards . Except on the occasion of the Jubilee of the Institution , in iSi ) . ' , there had never been such a large and influential Board of Stewards as at this festival . If anything could prove what a grip there was among Masons , it was on an occasion like this . When they were asked to subscribe they subscribed ;

they did not shut their purses when asked to give ; they were willing to g ive on behalf of those who fought for them in South Africa , and in addition , to give to the Masonic Institutions a good round sum—those Institutions of which they were all p roud . With regard to the Benevolent Institution , he could honestly say it was worthy of the fullest support . It was energetically and economically managed ; it had an admirable Secretary in Bro . Terry , who had been many years Secretary ,

and it was hoped -he would be spared many many years . Bro . Terry was abl y supported b y his staff and by Committees , of which he ( Bro . Keyser ) was proud to be one . He was proud of going to Croj don on Monday , and seeing that the Chairman was pleased with what he saw . Institution in the country . The Chairman had said what the number of annuitants was . Had it occurred to the brethren the immense relief it was to those who , from unavoidable circumstances of calamity o misfortune , had been reduced to the lowest ebb of poverty and distress , to think that after fig hting the battles of the world he had £ 40 a year , or a widow £ 32 a year paid every quarter in advance T It was a great pleasure to know that we could make their lives sweet- He did not think any Institution was

doing more good than this Institution , and therefore he commended it to the brethren ' s support , and he hoped the splendid support they had already given would be an earnest , and the great Masonic Institutions would have that support they so thoroughly deserved-Bro . TERRY then read the lists , but prefaced the announcement by saying that there were 599 Stewards , 268 from London , 328 from the

Provinces , and three from Foreign parts . The London lists amounted to £ 11 , 699 . The premier list was that of the Friars Lodge , represented by Bro . David Moss , with a total of . £ 572 . The next highest was the Lodge of Sincerity , which for 47 years had never failed to send a Steward to this Institution . It was represented by Bro . J . W . Fox , and sent £ 231 8 s . 6 d .
