Much regret was expressed at the unavoidable absence of Bro . D ; . Jos . Adams , P . M ., the S . W . designate , through illness , and of Bro . Professor A . H . Young , P . M ., owing to an important professional engagement . The Consecrating Officer , Bro . William Goodacre , on entering the lodge was received by the assembled brethren in a manner fi ' . ting to his exalted rank , and having taken the chair , appointed Bros . T . Banner

The lodge was then opened up to the Third Degree , and , after the usual salutes , Bro . GOODACRE addressed the brethren in a few well-chosen words on the object of the meeting , and explained that he had been deputed by the

M . W . G . M . to consecrate the lodge . He concluded his brief remarks by wishing the new lodge the greatest possible success . After prayer by the CHAPLAIN , the founders were arranged round the lodge board and signified their approval of the officers named in the warrant .

The P . G . Chaplain , Bro . H . LEESON , having delivered a brilliant oration on the nature and principles of the Institution , The anthem " Behold how good and joyful , " was most effectively rendered b y the musical artists . The hymns and other anthems used on such occasions were also effectively chanted and to the satisfaction of all present .

The lodge having been dedicated and constituted in the usual form , Bro . John Armstrong , P . P . S . G . W . Cheshire , was presented as W . M . Designate , by the P . G . D . C ., and duly installed into the chair of K . S . by the Consecrating Master .

The W . M . then invested Bros . R . H . Pearson , P . M ., as J . W . ; J . Rymer Young , P . M ., Treas . ; John Hesketh , P . M ., Sec ; Wlliam Pierpoint , S . D . ; Herbert Hutton , J . D . ; Thos . Cooper , P . M ., I . G . ; J . Shaw Green and Hugh Ferguson , Stewards . ; and J . H . Galloway , Tyler .

The W . M . proposed that a vote of thanks be given to the Consecrating Officer and his assistants for their impressive rendering of the several ceremonies , and that Bros . Goodacre , Newhouse , Lambert , and Leeson , be elected honorary members of the lodge . This was canied with the utmost enthusiasm , and a Founder ' s jewel suitably engraved was also presented to Bros . Goodacre and Newhouse .

The honorary members all expressed their thanks for the honour done them . Letters of regret were received from Bros . Major J . D . Murray , P . G . Treas . Eng . ) Col . C . S . Dean , P . S . G . W . Cheshire ; G . H . Brown , P . P . S . G . W . Cheshire ; F . K . Stevenson , P . P . S . G . W . Cheshire ; Walter Simpson , P . P . S . G . W . ; H . Gordon Small , P . G . D . C . Five propositions for initiation and five for j Vining were submitted after the Grand and Provincial Grand Officers had retired in procession . The lodge was closed and the brethren subsequently partook of a banquet served in the Masonic Hall . The banquet itself , and the speedy and efficient manner in which it was served , ri fleeted the greatest credit upon Bro . Chantry , in whose hands the catering had been placed .

After the banquet the W . M . proposed the u-ual loyal toasts , and then the " M . W . the Pro Grand Master , the Right Hon . the E ttl of Lathom , G . C . B ., the D . G . Master , and other Officers of Grand Lodge , " to which Bro . NEWHOUSE , D . G . Std . Br ., replied . Bro . W . PIERPOINT , S . W ., proposed "The Deputy Prov . G M . of West Lancashire and the Provincial Grand Officers of this and other Provinces . "

Bros . J . J . LAMBERT and J . FLETCHER responded on b .-htlf of West Lancashiie , and F . BROADSMITH for Cheshire . The toast of " The W . M . " was submitted in most felicitous terms by the Consecrating Officer , Bro . GOODACRE . Bro . Wm . Hudson sang a special variation of " Here ' s to his health in a song . "

After replying , the W . M . proposed "The Health of the Consecrating Master , W . Bro . Wm . Goodacre , P . G . S . B . Eng ., P . G . Secretary of West Lancashire , " and said they were greatly favoured in being privileged lo have their lodge consecrated by one of the , if not the , ablest officer in England . " The Mother Lodge , No . 148 , " was proposed by Bro . J . R . YOUNG , P . M ., in eloquent and feeling terms .

Bros . LYTHGOE , W . M . ; W . B . ROBERTS , Sec ; and GREENOUGH , Treas ., responded . The toast of "The Masonic Charities" was in good hands in Bro . T . MORRIS .

installed Comp . Nisbet , who then installed the other Office-bearers . Thereafter the companions celebrated the Festival of ths Vernal Equinox . There were about 60 present , Comp . Nisbet presiding . The toast of "The First Grand Princ i pal and other Office-bearers of the Supreme Grand Chapter " was proposed by Comp . C . C . YORSTOUN , Advocate .

The CHAIRMAN , in replying , mentioned lhat the income for the past year had been £% 6 , an increase of £ 142 over the previous year , and that the membership of companions admitted had been 1031 , against 929 . Comp . Col . W . IVISON MACADAM proposed " The Past Grand Officebearers , " coupled with the name of Comp . Major Allan , who , he said , haT broken the record in regard to the attendances at all kinds of meetings in connection with the chapter , inasmuch as he had visited Royal Arch chapters in India , at the Cape , Gibraltar , and Aden . .

Comp . Major ALLAN , in replying , said he had also visited chapters in most parts of this country , and he assured them that Arch Maronry was now taking a hold in Scotland that it had not had for years .

LADIES' NIGHT OF THE PILGRIM LODGE , No . 238 .

IN CELEBRATION OF THE 1 . 00 ™ ANNIVERSARY OF THE EMPEROR WILLIAM THE FIRST . About nine years ago the brethren of the Pilgrim Lodge , under the Mastership of Bro . F . Wagner , held a lodge of mourning in the Great Hall of Freemasons' Tavern , for their illustrious brother , the Emperor William the First , who had quitted the field of earthly labour a few weeks before , and the many English brethren who were present on that occasion will have a vivid recollection of the

ceremony . On Friday , the 19 th ult ., the same hall witnessed a scene of a different character . Again , it was the Pilgrim Lodge that originated it ; again , it was in connection with the Emperor William the First , and Bro . Bae' . z was the Master who presided , but this time it was more of a festive than a mournful character , for the brethren had resolved that their annual " Schwestern-Fest , " the one occasion in the year when ladies grace by their presence the meetings of the Pilgrim brethren , should this time furnish also the opportunity for celebrating the 100 th anniversary of William the First's birth .

A large muster of the Pilgrims , and their " sisters , " and friends , in number exceeding 100 , had assembled in honour of the occasion , and the festivity thia time took the form of a dinner , followed by a concert . After the loyal toasts to "The Queen" and " The Present Emperor" had been duly honoured , the WORSHIPFUL MASTER introduced the toast of the evening , that in memory of " William the First , " in a speech of rare eloquence and

feeling . He pointed out ho , v the greatness of William the First was not so much founded on unusual natural gifts , but on firmneis of character and the courage and persistency with which he carried out what he recognised as right , untroubled by party-hatred or favour . A clear , deeply-felt sense of duty led him in all his actions . Gifted with an extraordinary knowledge of men , he knew how to surround himself with the best men
