Prosperity Lodge , No . 65 . PRESENTATION TO BRO . W . J . GREIG , P . M . The annual installation meeting of this old-established lodge was held on the 25 th ult ., at their new quarters , the new Masonic Hall recently built bv the proprietors of the Holborn Restaurant , which , although not yet completed , was well draped with cu-tains ,

& c , thus covering all unfinished parts , which will be completed before the next regular meeting . The lodge was opened by the W . M ., Bro . W . J . Greig , assisted by Bros . G . T . Kinipple , S . W ., W . M . elect ; S . Spencer , J . W . ; H . J . Harriss , P . M ., Sec . ; W . M . Graham , S . D . ; J . Smart , J . D . j J . Huckell , I . G . ; T . F . Noakes , Org . ; and a Eood number ' of Past Masters and brethren .

The minutes of the last meeting having been read and confirmed , and the balancesheet adopted , the W . M . at once proceeded to raise Bros . J . Carter , L . Newman . W . G . Read , and E . S . Underwood , immediately following this ceremony by passing Bros . C . Launspach and P . Barabain , and without any loss of time proceeded to install his successor in the chair . Too much praise cannot be bestowed on Bro . Greig for the excellent and impressive manner in which he performed the installation , as well as the previous ceremonies of passing and raising . The Worshipful Master for the

ensuing year ( Bro . G . T . Kinipple ) then invested his officers , giving the address to each in a manner thoroughly up to the traditions of this lodge for excellency of work , viz ., Bros . W . J . Greig , I . P . M . ; S . E . Spencer , S . W . ; W . M . Graham , J . W . ; J . Roberts , P . M ., Treas . ; H . j . Harriss , P . M ., Sec . ; J . Smart , S . D . ; J . Huckell , J . D . ; j . The usual addresses were given by the Installing Master , Bro . W . T . Greig ,

with marked effect and won for him the hearty approval of the brethren . The following sums were then voted unanimously , 10 guineas to H . R . H . the Prince of Wales ' ( M . W . G . M . ) Hospital Fund ; one guinea to the fund being raised by the Freemasons for endowing a bed at Guy ' s Hospital ; three guineas to a former brother in great distress ; and five guineas for a Life Governorship at one of the Masonic Charities , for firesentation to the wife of the Secretary of the lodge , Bro . Harriss , P . M ., in acknowedgement of his great urbanity and kindness to all the members , and appreciation of the able and courteous manner in which he performed the duties of his important office .

THE WORSHIPFUL MASTER . " Hearty good wishes , " were then tendered by the large number of visitors present and the lodge was closed in due form , and the brethren adjourned to the Crown Room where an ample barquet was excellently served under the personal superintendence of Bio . Hamp . The W . M . gave the usual loyal and Masouic toasts , as also that 'of "The Grand Officers , Present and Past , " which were drunk with enthusiasm .

Bro . Greig proposed "The Health of the Worshipful Master , " in very felicitous terms , stating that this lodee had fortunately had a succession of excellent Masters carrying out the precepts of the Craft , and he felt sure that their W . M . would not be behind any of his predecessors in this respect , and would prove a Master of whom they would all be proud . The Worshipful Master , who had a most cordial reception on rising to respond , said "I suppose there are moments in every man ' s life when he feels it very difficult to find words to express all that is in his heart and that this was one of those peculiar

moments in his own , but he did most heartily thank them for the kind reception they had given him and the brethren for electing him to that exalted position that it was now his privilege to hold . I thought when I was initiated 10 years ago I could not attain to this high position , but by the grace of the Great Architect I have been spared to do so . I hope you will give me credit for doing my best and that I shall give satisfacti on to you all . I shall be amply rewarded if at the end of my year of office it can be said to me . Well done , good and worthy brother . "

In submitting the toast of " The Installing and I . P . M ., " Bro . Kinipple , W . M ., observed that he approached the task with some diffidence , as it might be considered that he was simply reciprocating the kind words Bro . Greig had used towards himself , but they must admit that Bro . Greig had proved himself one of the most able Masters the lodge had ever had , and that he had completed his year of office as W . M . most successfully by the able manner in which he had rendered the installation ceremony that evening , and it was indeed a very pleasant duty that he had to perform in pinning on his breast that Past Master ' s jewel , and also presenting him with a silver tea service

and tantalus , as a mark of the brethren's appreciation of his very valuable services during the past year , and they all hoped he and his wife would be spared many years to make good use of them in memory of his many Masonic friends . Bro . Greig , who was evidently much touched by the kindness of the brethren , in very f eeling terms said : I have a very embarrassing and difficult task before me to adequately acknowledge your great kindness , especially when accompanied by such handsome presents . 1 have done my best for the lodge and shall continue to do so as long as I am spared to come amongst you . I do heartily and sincerely thank you and am sure this moment will remain engraven on heart and memory all my life .

The W . M . then gave the toast of " The Visitors , " saying he was particularly fortunate in having so many present at his installation . They were always pleased to see and entertain guests , and he hoped they had all thoroughly enjoyed themselves . With the toast he coupled the names of Bros . J . R . Johnson , P . M . ; J . G . Millbourn , P . M

Bros . J . Roberts , P . M ., Treas . ; H . J . Harriss , P . MFj Sec . ; C . Daniel , P . M . ; F . J . Ruse , P . M . ; and S . Spencer , S . W ., responded . M . announced that , including the 10 guineas voted by the lodge , the amount collected at the banquet-table would enable them to send 427 shillings to their M . W . G . M . visitors . The enjoyment of the evening was greatly enhanced by the singing of some capital solos and quartettes by Madame Alice Lovenez , Miss Florence Venning , Bros . They were honoured that evening with the presence of Bro . Beaumont , and he felt sure the lodge , as well as himself , thoroughly appreciated the honour conferred upon them . It

was to him one of the greatest pleasures of that evening to propose that toast and associate Bro . Beaumont ' s name with it . He had the honour of being initiated into that lodge by Bro . Beaumont , and he had that night , by the kindness of the I . P . M . and Past Masters , who were thoroughly competent to have performed the ceremony , been installed in such an impressive and masterly manner by that distinguished brother—3 privilege he valued most highly . Bro . Beaumont had followed his career in Masonry and done everything to encourage him ( the W . M . ) to endeavour to worthily fulfil the ptoud and humble position he had attained to .
