M . for the kind way in which he had proposed the toast , and said that the Grand Officers were always anxious to get among the lodges as time and circumstances would permit . It « as to him a special pleasure to be in that lodge and to witness the admirable work of its officers . He desired to thank the lodge , the I . P . He thought that prophecy had been fulfilled to the letter . The manner in which he had gone through his work that evening , when Ms nerves must necessarily have been somewhat unhinged , must have given the lodge great satisfaction . On behalf of the Grand Officers he thanked them for the kind manner in which the loast had been received , and he might assure them that as in the past so in the future would they continue to endeavour to merit the good will and esteem of the brethren .
The toast of "The W . M . " was proposed by the I . P . M ., Bro . C . Gammon , in a humorous speech and ably responded to . James Budd , assisted by Miss Gertrude Snow , Miss Florence Venning , Miss J ose Dubois ( violinist ) , Mr . H . Marriott , and Bro . Herbert Schartau , an excellent programme of music was provided .

Morgan , Stwds . ; and T . Bailey , Tyler . Four propositions were handed in for initiation , which augurs well for the lodge . The ladies' night which is a special feature in the lodge was deterred till the autumn session ,
the fourth Monday in November . The business of the lodge ended , the brethren adjourned to an excellent banquet supplied by Mrs . Venables in her usual recherche style . The cloth removed , the W . M . gave the toast of "The Queen and the Craft , " remarking how she supported every kind of charitable institution , and at the present time all her subjects were drawn towards her and were grateful that she had reached such a unique position as the Diamond Jubilee . She was one of the best sovereigns that had ever occupied a throne .
The toast of "The M . W . G . M ., H . R . H . the Prince of Wales , " was next presented by the W . M ., who said all knew the deep interest he also took in the cause of charity and the strenuous effort he was making to benefit the various London Hospitals , and thereby make during the present year a lasting memt nto of this auspicious reign . He also spoke of the other Grand Officers , the Pro G . M ., and the Dep . G . M ., with the rest , who were the pioneers of Freemasonry . For their splendid services a deep debt of gratitude was due .
Bro . W . R . Barr , I . P . M ., in presenting the toast of "The W . M ., " said all knew his sterling worth . He and the W . M . had performed the various duties of the lodge side by side , therefore , he was enabled to speak of the assiduity he had always displayed . His acquisitions had been witnessed that evening and from appearances he would eclipse all the Masters who had preceded him in the lodge . Many Masters on leaving the chair often expressed themselves that they could perform the duty better if they had a second year . The W . M . was about to enter his second year as a Master , he having installed his successor in the Surrey Masoni : Hall Lodge only a few days ago in a most admirable manner . He had the confidence that whatever the W . M . was called upon to do it would be done in a perfect manner and to the benefit of the Stuart Lodge .
Bro . Morgan , W . M . ( who received an ovation ) , replied that he thanked the brethren most heartily , and from the flattering remarks of Bro . Barr , he hoped the brethren would not expect too much . However , he promised them that he would most conscientiously cairy out the duties to the benefit of the lodge . One great desire of his was that the proud financial position of the Stuart Lodge should be maintained during the year , and that at the close there should be such a substantial balance at the bankers as there was now . For the honour conferred upon him , he promised to do his utmost to uphold the dignity of the lodge . He was delighted to announce that the sum of £ 4 4 s . had been collected for his Royal Highness ' s Fund to show their gratitude to him as their Grand Master .
Bro .-J . Morgan next proposed the toast of "The Installing Master , Bro . W . R . Barr , " remarking that it was an exceptional satisfaction to himtogiye it . They had been associated with each other since boyhood . He was a thorough sticker at work , as the past year ' s record showed , and that night was no exception , as he had quite eclipsed himself . The lodge had passed through many vicissitudes , but now , through successive Masters , and specially during the past year , il had been raised to an enviable positicv . The I . P . M . had initiated no less than 22 gentlemen into the lodge , which showed the
deep interest he took in it , and for his splendid success the brethren had voted him the hands ime jewel he so richly deserved , to mark their esteem and affection . He hoped that prosperity might reign in the lodge so long as the I . P . M . was in it , and long after . Also a slight innovation was made for the first time in the lodge , which was to further show their appreciation by asking his acceptance of a Past Master ' s collar and jewel ( attached ) , with the earnest desire that he might wear the same for many years . The toast was received most cordially .
Bro . Barr , I . P . M ., in response , thanked the W . M . for his exceptionally kind remaiks of him , and he certainly had done his utmost for the advantage of the lodge . When he joined some 15 years ago it was at a very low ebb , to the number of abojt a dozen subscribing members , it no . v mustered about 03 , and four more proposals raised it to a highly respectable number . During the year he had exerted himself greatly to perform the duties of the chair ( as it was the duty of the W . M . ) to the best of his
ability . He would assure the brethren as long as he lived he would remain a member of the lodge , with the earnest hope that its success would be sustained . He received the Past Master ' s jewel with pleasure as their mark of deep respect , but he appreciated the Past Master ' s collar and jewel far more , not for its intrinsic value , but as a further mark of their appreciation . His earnest desire was to wear that in the Stuart Lodge for many years , and he heartily wished it prosperity .
The W . M . next presented the toast of "The Initiates in most befitting terms . Bros . Hancox , Munro , Wright , and Deus acknowledged the honour bestowed on them . The toast of "The Visitors" received at the hands of the W . M . many kind and complimentary remarks , giving them all—so worthy an array—a most cordial Welcome ,

Bro . Side , W . M . 1539 , replied , stating the great delight it gave him to be present and witness such excellent working in so successful a lodge . The banners of the various Masters were a great attraction , and certainly he had been much struck by their appearance , which , to his mind , gave a splendid tone to the lodge . The W . M . had jus : vacated the chair in another lody ; e , and had installed him as his successor , which
ceremony was carried out perfectly . He was sure the same excellent work would bs performed in the Stuart Lodge . That certainly was a record age , specially as regards the splendid service rendered by the reti ing Master , and also the W . M . having begun so admirably , everything tended towards the prosperity and prestige of the lodge being maintained . Bros . Stone , P . M .: Sims , P . M . ; and Coborn also pertinently replied .
Bro . Morgan , W . M ., next presented the toast of "The Past Masters , " coupling with it the officers of the lodge . The Past Masters had done yeoman service in the lodge , and brought great credit upon it . B .-o . Lynn had done excellent duty to the lodge , and Bro . G . H . T . Morgan was an admirable Treasurer , looking after and guarding the funds most faithfully . Of the other officers , the VV . M . congratulated himself upon such an array , specially remarking upon the thorough earnestness displayed by them all and to the S . D . for his exceptional working . The toast was most suitably responded to by Bros . Lynn , Morgan , Treas . ; Bowler , S . D . ; Harper , P . M ., Org . ; and O'Connor . The Tyler ' s toast closed a very happy and eventful meeting .
An excellent programme of music was arranged by Bro . A . Court , ably assisted by Mrs . G . H . G . Morgan , Bros . Walter Banks , W . R . Barr , I . P . M . ; A . Cranch , P . M . ; Evan Cook , A . E . Grimshaw , J . Sweet , and Mr . A . Tucker . Bro . W . H . Harper , P . M ., ably presided at the piano .

Kidman presented the report ot the Audit Committee , which showed the financial position of the lodge to be sound . Bro . Westley proposed that a Past Master ' s jewel should be presented to Bro . Charlie Woods , and this was carried unanimously .
Other Masonic business being transacted , the lodge was closed , and the brethren afterwards enjoyed a sumptuous repast under the presidency of the W . M . In proposing "The tjueen and the Craft , " the W . M . drew attention to the long and illustrious reign of her Majesty . Such a reign never had been known in the history of the world , for everything that goes to " make history " had been met with in the past 60 years . ... „ . , ... . ., „ _ Prince of Wales
The W . M . proposed " H . R . H . the , K . G ., M . W . G . M ., " saying that wherever any good was to be done there would the Grand Master be found . " The Grand Officers " next claimed attention , and the W . M . alluded to what they did ; he also mentioned the Grand Officers of that lodge , especially alluding to his close connection with , and indebtedness to , Bro . S . Cochrane , P . G . Treas . Bro . S . Cochrane replied , referring to his experience as a Grand Officer , and to his connection with the members of the lodge and the visitors who were present .
Bro . C Woods , I . P . M , proposed ' •The Health of the W . M ., Bro . John Mitchell . " He said that at any time it would be a great pleasure to propose the toast of the Master of the lodge , for they delighted to honour the one whom they had elected , but on this occasion it was a much greater pleasure , considering the excellent and highly esteemed craftsman who presided over them . The able and impressive way in which he had done his work that evening would convince those present that their Master was able and willing—in a pre-eminent degree—to perform the duties ot his high office .
Bro . John Mitchell , W . VI ., responded , promising that everything in his power should lie done to ensure that this year should be one of success—and that the welfare and happiness of the members should receive due attention . Bro . John Mitchell , W . M ., proposed the toast of " The Installing Master , Bro . C Woods , " whose work he eulogised . He took this opportunity of pinning to the I . P . M . ' s breast the handsome Past Master ' s jewel , voted by the lodge , expressing a hope that he might live long to wear it . . , , sail he reminded of the
Bro . Woods , in response , was first time he responded as Secretary in that room . Then he had said that theirs must be made one of the best lodges in the world . All the founders , especially the Past Masters , had laboured with that end in view . Their work had been duly rewarded , for no happier ban J of brethren could be met with anywhere . . The W . M . in proposing " The Initiates , " said that if his son made as good a Mason as he had been a son then they would all be proud of him in years to come . He believed also that Bro . Harrould would equally earn their esteem . Bros . Mitchell and Harrould suitably replied .
The W . M . proposed in most telicitous terms " The Visitors , " many of whom were " friends of many years , " all being highly esteemed . Bro . Lipscomb , W . M . 507 , said that they had that evening received a Masonic treat of a very high order in the lodge room , and afterwards an equal treat at the banquet table . Often the pleasure of realisation was less than the expectation . In this instance the realisation far exceeded anything he could have expected . The work was excellent , and only equalled by the hospitality displayed . Bro . Danby , P . M . 1056 , made , an able and telling speech , referring to the time when he had installed Bio .
