thanks for the hospitality they had received , and expressing tin ir satisfaction at the admirable working of the lodge . Bro . VV . H . Lee replied for the toast of " The l . P . M ., " and thanked the W . M . for the kind and flattering terms he had used in proposing his health , and the brethren for their very hearty reception of it . Since his connection with the Iodye it had always been his ambition to further its interests . He was pleased to find that his efforts had met with their

apjireciation , and hoped that he would be connected with the lodg'e for many years to come , and that the same rrood fellowship that now existed amongst the brethren would not be diminished in the future . " The Past Masters " was next given , and responded to by Bros . Mayes and Bird , who assured the brethren of the interest talcen by that body in the welfare of the lodge .

Bros . Weston , S . W . ; ' Unborn , Sec ; and Hurran , Treas ., responded on behalf of "The Officers , " after which the Tyler's toast brought a successful meeting to a close . The musical arrangements , which were of an excellent character , were under the able direction of Bro . Bayne , and one of the special features was a pianoforte solo very skillfully executed by Bro . Wright , Org .

As the requisite sum will he in hand on Tuesday evening next , a ballot will then be most probably taken . Hro . Francis-, Preceptor , will occupy the chair , ami a large assemblage of the members is confidently anticipated , the worthy Preceptor being highly appreciated by the brethren generally , all feeling that it is mainly due to Bro . Erancis ' s untiring and courteous teaching that this lodge of instruction has achieved that proud position it now holds as second to none for the truly Masonic unity among its members and correctness of ritual .

PROPOSED CHAPTER OF IMPROVEMENT FOR SOUTH LONDON .

A chapter of improvement , to be worked under the warrant of the Industry Chapter , No . 1 S 6 , will be opened at the Prince Regent , Dulwich-road , Heine-hill , S . E ., on Saturday , the 10 th inst ., at 7 . 30 p . m . precisely , and weekly meetings will be held at the same time and place throughout the year . Comp . Watts , P . Z . of the Panmure Chapter ,

No . 720 , has consented to accept the office of Preceptor , and as the excellence of his working in this Degree is so well known , his ability to fulfil the office with credit to himself and satisfaction to the members is undoubted . He will occupy the principal chair on the opening night . Comp . Francis , Preceptor of the Brixton Lodge of Instruction , and Comp . C . H . Phillips , H . elect 1 S 6 , have been elected to the offices of Treasurer and Scribe E .

respectively . These companions are so well known in South London in connection with the Craft , that the founders may be congratulated on having obtained their services . The very handsome miniature furniture of the late Panmure Chapter of Instruction has been purchased on reasonable terms . The joining fee is 2 s ., a payment of 3 d . for each night of attendance , or an annual subscription of 5 s ., and it is hoped there will be a large number of joining members on the opening night . The founders are all

energetic and hardworking Masons , and all that is necessary to ensure the success of the undertaking is the hearty cooperation of the R . A . Masons in South London , and , as in North London ; members of the Order have earned for themselves a high reputation for ' * North London " working , it is anticipated that , under the tuition of Comp . Watts , the members of this chapter of instruction will obtain for it such a reputation foe " South London " working as shall vie in friendly rivalry with that of their companions in the north of the metropolis .

respectively . These companions are so well known in South London in connection with the Craft , that the founders may be congratulated on having obtained their services . The very handsome miniature furniture of the late Panmure Chapter of Instruction has been purchased on reasonable terms . The joining fee is 2 s ., a payment of 3 d . for each night of attendance , or an annual subscription of 5 s ., and it is hoped there will be a large number of joining members on the opening night . energetic and hardworking Masons , and all that is necessary to ensure the success of the undertaking is the hearty cooperation of the R . A . Masons in South London , and , as in North London ; members of the Order have earned for themselves a high reputation for ' * North London " working , it is anticipated that , under the tuition of Comp . Watts , the members of this chapter of instruction will obtain for it such a reputation foe " South London " working as shall vie in friendly rivalry with that of their companions in the north of the metropolis .

Eng ., presided , when the minutes were read and confirmed , and Bro . W . Carlyle admitted to the Red Cross of Bab-Ion . Bro . J . D . Murray , P . M . 4

, G . D . C . Eng ., then assumed the chair , when Bro . J . Nicholson , J . W ., was presented and duly installed as W . M ., ably assisted by Bro . Chas . S . Lane , P . M ., P . G . S . D . Eng . A slight improvement has taken place in the health of Bto . Earl Granville , though his lordship is still confined to his bed . The Queen and Court reached Windsor Castle from Balmoral on the morning of Friday , the 35 th ult ., and in the afternoon her speech proroguing Parliament

was delivered in the House of Lords by Royal Commission . On Saturday last , at a Council at Windsor , the proclamation dissolving the House of Commons was signed , and a special Gazelle of the same evening made it public . A second proclamation for the election of sixteen peers to represent Scotland in the House of Lords was also signed , and afterwards published in the Gazette .
