John , which took place at head-quarters in Hope-street , on Thursday , the 25 th ult ., tave further striking evidence of the vitality of the lodge , fnd the manner in which the whole of the business was conducted was at once a credit to those engaged in its performance as it proved a delig ht to all who witnessed it .

The chair was filled on this occasion by Bro . H . H . bmith , the retiring W . M ., who was supported by a full complement of his excellent officers . banquet , admirably supplied by Bro . W . S . Vines , P . P . G . D . C , of the Canton Hotel , and during the evening the usual loyal and Masonic toasts were proposed and responded to . Burnett .

HAMPTON WICK . —Wolsey Lodge ( No . 1656 ) . —An emergency meeting of this lodge was held at the White Hart Hotel , on the 15 th ult . Among those present were Bros . Featherstone , P . G . S . Middx ., W . M . ; R . W . Forge , P . G . S . Middx ., S . W . ; Filler , J . W . ; Rev . F . J . C de Crespigny , P . P . G . Chap . Middx ., P . M ., Trek ; T . C . Walls , P . P . G . S . B . Middx ., S . D . ; P . L . ChandlerI . G . ; and others . Bros . Mahood , Knight , and

, Hunt were passed to the Second Degree , and Bros . Ireland and Peat were raised to the Third Degree , the ceremonies being well performed by the W . M . with the able assistance of bis officers . The following notice of motion for discussion at the next meeting was handed in to the Secretary : " That the meetings of the Wolsey Lodge be held

henceforth at the Town Hall , Twickenham , instead of at the White Hart Hotel , Hampton Wick . " Whereupon another notice of motion was given : " lhat the meetings be held at the Rose and Crown Hotel , Hampton Wick . " The lodge was then closed and the brethren separated . There was no banquet .

BOLTON St . George's Lodge ( No . 1723 ) . — The monthly meeting-of this lodge was held on Wednesday , the 26 th ult ., at the Commercial Hotel , Bro . Rob . Latham , W . M ., in the chair , supported by Bros . E . G . Harwood , J . W . ; J . B . Tong , S . D . ; N . Nicholson , Sec . ; Bardsley , I . G . ; and many other brethren . The lodge having been opened , and the minutes of the former meeting read and confirmedBro . Bolton was raised

, to the Sublime Degree of a M . M . by Bro . James Heywood , P . M . Bro . Whe < vell was next passed to the Second Degree by Bro . Nicholson , P . M ., and Bro . Settle was also passed to the same degree by the W . M . ( Bro . Latham ) . Mr . Robert Gowanlock was afterwards initiated an Entered Apprentice Mason by Bro . G . P . Brockbank , the senior Past Master of the Iodge and W . M . 37 , the working tools of the degree being explained by the J . W . ( Bro . Harwood ,

Alayor of Bolton ) , and the charge delivered , as usual , by Bro . Brockbank . The lodge was exceedingly well attended , and it was remarked that all the brethren who had served the office of Master in this lodg e were at their posts and ready to take any part in the business of the lodge to promote its interests . A portion of the ancient charge was read by the Junior Warden , and the lodge closed in harmony .

Fifteen Sections , and to the brethren who had assisted him . Nothing further having offered for the good of Freemasonry the lodge was closed in ancient form and adjourned till to-morrow ( Saturday ) evening , Bro . C . G . Sparrow , VV . M . 1 743 , having kindly accepted an invitation to work the ceremony of installation on that occasion . Brethren who can make it convenient to attend will receive a hearty welcome by the members of this , the oldest lodge of instruction in existence .

YARBOROUGH LODGE ( No . 554 ) . —A capital meeting of the above old lodge was held on Tuesday evening , the 23 rd ult ., at the Green Dragon , Stepney . Bro . Brown , P . M ., was W . After due preliminaries the ceremony of raising was well and carefully worked , Bro . Taylor being candidate . Bro . Brown also gave the candidate the benefit of the traditional history . Lodge was regularly closed down in the several degrees . Bro . G . Price was unanimously elected W . M . for the ensuing Tuesday evening . The services of Bro . Brown P . M ., as W . M . were suitably recognised by a vote of thanks being passed and ordered to be officially recorded upon the minutes .

DORIC LODGE ( No . 933 ) . —We had the pleasure of attending the above good working lodge on Friday , the 26 th ult ., at the Duke's Head , 79 , Whitechapel-road , and were gratified to find a capital attendance of brethren . This is not to be much wondered at when brethren are acquainted with the capital teaching to be obtained here and the truly comfortable surroundings of the lodge room

which , since the demise of our late esteemed Bro . J , Clayton , his worthy and amiable sister , Mrs . Farbridge , has kindly devoted to the use of the Doric Lodge . The chair was occupied by Bro . R . F . Hopkins , who was supported by Bros . West , S . VV . ; Smith , J . W ., P . M . ; Cundick , Preceptor , P . M . ; Musto , Hon . Sec . ; and some 20 brethren . The three ceremonies were very carefully and

well worked , affording an excellent evening's instruction and an inducement to visitthe lodge again this ( Friday ) evening , when Bro . J . West , 933 , will preside . A vote ot thanks was passed to Bro . Hopkins eulogising his work , and two brethren from 140 and 749 respectively were admitted members , and a higly enjoyable meeting terminated in due form .

In reference to the decease of the late lamented Lady Holmesdale , itwas resolved that a letter of condolence should be sent from the chapter to Lord Holmesdale , Grand Superintendent of Kent , throusrh M . G . H . Kent , asking Comp . Eastes to deliver it to his lordship or not , as he thought necessary . Several candidates were then proposed for exaltation , and the chapter was closed in solemn form . The chapter has its own larder , and cellar , and certainly the handsome supper served by its caterer was all that could be desired , while Comps . Penfold and Mason , saw that the wines were promptly and liberallv distributed . J

The usual loyal and Royal Arch Masonic toasts were given and honoured , and then the M . E . Z . proposed the ever welcome toast of "Lord Holmesdale , Grand Superintendent of the Province of Kent . " He did so with especial feeling that night , and felt they would also record their regret at the great loss he had sustained in the death of his most estimable lady , lt was a loss that railed unon th _ . ir

sympathies as men and brother Masons for all who knew their Grand Superintendent must know and feel something of the grief that had touched him . He asked them , therefore to drink the toast with heartiness , yet with deep feeling . The next toast was that of " Ihe Grand H ., Comp . Eastes , and the rest of the Prov . Grand Officers , Present and Past , coupled with the name of Como . Penfold . who

made a suitable response , thanking the companions for their condolence with Lord Holmesdale in his great bereavement ; it was a feeling that was deeply shared by himself , and he felt sure it was by not only every Grand Ulhcer , but by every Mason in the province , for such a loss was irreparable . Comp . Butler then proposed the toast of "The M . E . Z . " He believed in givinir honour to whom honour was Hue

and honour was most certainly due to their M . E . Z ., not only for his excellent Craft working , but for the rare ability he had shown in every office he had held that led up to the chair of Z . in that chapter . In responding , the M . E . Z . said he considered it a great honour to preside over them . He trusted that under his guidance the chapter would lose none ot its lustre . It was

a difficult task to follow such leaders as he had to follow , vet he trusted at the end of his year of office to merit their full and entire approbation . Comp . Mason and Edmunds responded for " The First and Second Principals . " The other toasts were "The Visitors" and "The Officers , " which brought a very pleasant meeting to a close . DORIC LODGE ( No . 933 ) . —We had the pleasure of attending the above good working lodge on Friday , the 26 th ult ., at the Duke's Head , 79 , Whitechapel-road , and were gratified to find a capital attendance of brethren . This is not to be much wondered at when brethren are acquainted with the capital teaching to be obtained here and the truly comfortable surroundings of the lodge room

which , since the demise of our late esteemed Bro . J , Clayton , his worthy and amiable sister , Mrs . Farbridge , has kindly devoted to the use of the Doric Lodge . The chair was occupied by Bro . The chapter has its own larder , and cellar , and certainly the handsome supper served by its caterer was all that could be desired , while Comps . Penfold and Mason , saw that the wines were promptly and liberallv distributed . J

The usual loyal and Royal Arch Masonic toasts were given and honoured , and then the M . E . Z . proposed the ever welcome toast of "Lord Holmesdale , Grand Superintendent of the Province of Kent . " He did so with especial feeling that night , and felt they would also record their regret at the great loss he had sustained in the death of his most estimable lady , lt was a loss that railed unon th _ . ir

sympathies as men and brother Masons for all who knew their Grand Superintendent must know and feel something of the grief that had touched him . He asked them , therefore to drink the toast with heartiness , yet with deep feeling . The next toast was that of " Ihe Grand H ., Comp . Eastes , and the rest of the Prov . Grand Officers , Present and Past , coupled with the name of Como . Penfold . who

made a suitable response , thanking the companions for their condolence with Lord Holmesdale in his great bereavement ; it was a feeling that was deeply shared by himself , and he felt sure it was by not only every Grand Ulhcer , but by every Mason in the province , for such a loss was irreparable . Comp . Butler then proposed the toast of "The M . E . Z . " He believed in givinir honour to whom honour was Hue

and honour was most certainly due to their M . E . Z ., not only for his excellent Craft working , but for the rare ability he had shown in every office he had held that led up to the chair of Z . in that chapter . In responding , the M . E . Z . said he considered it a great honour to preside over them . He trusted that under his guidance the chapter would lose none ot its lustre . It was

a difficult task to follow such leaders as he had to follow , vet he trusted at the end of his year of office to merit their full and entire approbation . Comp .
