Z ., Treas . ; Patrick , Janitor ; VV

Cowley , P . Z . ; Fred . Hilton , P . Z . ; North , Fleck , Meirhoff , Dr . Makeham , Bumstead , P . Z . ; C . Woods , and Crook . Visitors : Comps . F . B . Williams , P . Z . ; and W . Kipps , P . Z . 79 . The minutes were read and confirmed . The result of the election was : Comps . Addington , M . E . Z . ; Tuck , H . ; Crook , J . ; Major Williams , P . Z ., Treas . ; Capt .

Williams , P . Z ., S . E . ; Benedetti , S . N . ; Fleck , P . S . ; Meirhoff , ist A . S . ; Charlie Woods , 2 nd A . S . ; and Patrick , Janitor . Comp . F . Hilton gave notice of a motion to present Comp . Elliott , M . E . Z ., with a Past Principal's jewel at the end of his year of office . He also reported the satisfactory progress of the Star Chapter of Instruction , of which he is Preceptor , and Comp . Stone is

S . E . The chapter vvas then closed . At the banquet which followed , the toasts of "The Queen and R . A . Masonry , " " H . R . H . the Prince of Wales , Grand Z ., " and "The Grand H . and J ., and the rest of the Grand Officers , Present and Past , " were well received .

Comp . F . Hilton , P . Z ., ably proposed the toast of "The M . E . Z . " He said that Comp . Elliott vvas presiding for the last time that evening , and it would be a satisfaction to the chapter to know that , although he had been confined to his bed for nearly two months , he was able to be present to finish his work as First Principal . In reply , Comp . Elliott , M . E . Z ., said that that was the

eighth time he had occupied the chair of a lodge or chapter . He would , therefore , not apologise for his shortcomings , for all the companions would know them . He must say that he had tried hard to attend the meetings of the chapter ; but the dates of meeting vvere very awkward for him , coming at his busiest times . He was glad to be M . E . Z . of the Star Chapter , and he felt that he would be

amply repaid for his work by the goodwill of the members . He had now nearly completed 21 years as a Mason , and hoped it vvould please the G . A . O . T . U . to spare him 21 more years to be a member . The M . E . Z . proposed the toast of "Comps . Addington , H ., and Tuck , J . " Comp . Addington replied , promising to do his best next

year in the first chair . Comp . T . Grummant , P . Z ., acting J ., replied for Comp . Tuck . In reply to the toast of "The Visitors , " Comp . F . B . Williams said that as a founder and P . Z . of the chapter , he was always glad to be present as a visitor . It vvas a pleasure to meet the companions of that chapter , both at

work and at the banqueting table . He would gladly do anything for the good of the chapter . Comp . Kipps , P . Z . 79 , said that , although a visitor , he saw so many present to whom he vvas well known that he felt quite at home . He thought they should always feel at home in a Masonic lodge or chapter , as they met true brethren and real companions . He should be often a

visitor , but that his Mark lodge met on the same date as the chapter . The M . E . Z . proposed "The P . Z . ' s , " specially eulogising the indefatigable labours of Comps . Major Williams , P . Z ., Treas ., and Capt . Williams , P . Z ., S . E ., in furthering the interests of the chapter at all times , and specially at--a time when its numbers vvere low . To speak of the

lustre shed by Comps . F . Hilton , P . Z . ; T . Grummant , P . Z . ; and W . Cowley , P . Z ., during their years of office , vvould be but to gild refined gold . The P . Z . ' s were the backbone of the chapter , for without them it could not have existed . ^ Comp . Major Williams , P . Z ., Treas ., said that as senior P . Z ., and Treasurer , as well as a founder , he felt it a high

honour to be present . He had attended every meeting of the chapter with the exception of one , when he was 1000 miles away . He recalled his past years of office , and expressed his entire sympathy with everything that interested the chapter . Comp . Capt . C . W . Williams , P . Z ., S . E ., said that he and his father pulled well together , because he vvas such a

good father . He hoped to be spared long to hold office in the chapter . Comp . F . Hilton , P . Z ., said that it was nice to have two such able officers as those who had responded . The members stuck well together , and that was the secret of their present success . If they continued the same line of conduct they would increase in prestige and numbers . Of

course , numbers were of little use if they did not keep together . It must be noted that three companions who had been exalted together , had that night been elected Sojourners together . All took office together , and would , doubtless , work for the prosperity of the Star Chapter . The M . E . Z . proposed " The Officers , " pointing out that in their election the companions decided what kind of

rulers the chapter should have , and so settled the welfare of its members for many years . Comp . Stone , S . N ., responded , expressing his gratification at obtaining office , and regret at having to stand aside for a few years . Hhe hoped the newly-elected officers would have more work to do than he had had . The M . E . Z . proposed "The Health of Comp . Bumstead ,

P . Z ., " who had done so much in teaching the members the beautiful R . A . ritual . In reply , Comp . Bumstead expressed his gratification at receiving that honour . He was repaid for all his trouble by the results which he saw in the chapter . It was necessary to perfect oneself in a chapter of instruction , and he

was glad to hear that the new one vvas making such good progress . Comp . Tuck , J ., H . elect , who had arrived , apologised for his absence , and thanked the companions for the honour they had conferred upon him , after which the Janitor ' s toast brought a happy evening to a conclusion .

STAR CHAPTER ( No . 1275 ) . —The election meeting of this chapter vvas held at the Ship , Greenwich , on Tuesday , the 23 rd ult ., and was attended by Comps . Elliott , P . Z ., M . E . Z . ; J .
