Covent Garden Chapter ( No . 1614 ) . — The installation meeting of this chapter , which is now firmly established and boasts many energetic Royal Arch Masons on its roll of membership , was held at the Criterion , Piccadill y Circus , en Thursday , the 23 th ult . The proceedings in the chapter were of a highly enjoyable nature , the ceremony of exaltation being admirably exemplified l > y the officers named below , and the installation of the three

Principals being carried out b y Comp . G . R . f . ang / ey , P . Z ., Prov . G . Treas . Middx ., in a manner worthy of all praise . The hospitality afterwards dispensed in the banquet room was worthy of the hospitable Iraditions of the mother lodge and of the chapter itself . The companions present included Comps . F . Kedge , P . Z ., as M . E . Z . ; VV . Hancock , H ., AI . E . Z . elect ; J . Coltart , P . Z ., as J . ; Geo . Reynolds ( M . E . Z . elect 132 ( 1 ) , Scribe E . ; Samuel

Robeit Love , 1987 , was exalted to the Royal Arch Degree . The following companions were then installed

into their respective chairs : Comps . Walter Hancock , M . K . Z . ; Samuel Hewett , P . Z ., H . ; and G . H . Foan , J . The following officers were invested : Comps . George Reynolds , Scribe E . ; A . L . Bullen , Scribe N . ; J . Coltart , P . Z ., Treas . ; C O . Burgess , P . S . ; J . D . Graham , ist A . S . ; G . C Bond , 2 nd A . S . ; J . Woodward , D . Alter a well-served banquet , the usual toasts were given . Comp . J . Coltart , P . Z ., in rLing to propose "The Health of the M . E . Z ., " said that pleating duty having fallen upon him , he was sure they would net require him to dilate upon the excellencies cf Comp . Hancock , as they were all well acquainted with his gocd qualities and his work . They had seen the present M . E . Z . perform many functions in that chapter , and they now had the pleasure of wishing him a

pleasant year of office , feeling confident that the destinies of the chapter would be safe in his hands , and that its traditions would be fully maintained . In drinking the toast they would also combine with it " Success to the Covent Garden Chapter . " Comp . Walter Hanccck , AI . E . Z ., s * id he had to thank Comp . Coltart , P . Z ., for the very kind and far too flattering terms in which he had proposed thc toast . He thought

he might fairly say they knew him well enough to know that in the various offices he had held he had always tried by every honest effort to do his duty , and he was naturally pleased that his efforts had been satisfactory . He had never shirked any duty he had had to perform , but , for the first time in his life , he began to tremble , on account of the heavy responsibilities attaching to the difficult portion of the ritual allotted to the M . E . Z . However , they might rest

assured that at the next meeting he would do his best . He had to thank them for the kind and generous way in which he was elected by those who had been his cheery , friendly companions for many years . He would do his best to maintain the reputation for working established by the Past Principals , to do justice to the companions and their confidence . Comp . R . Love responding for "The Exaltee , " thanked

his proposer and seconder , and said he could not but feel it a compliment and a great honour that he had received so much kindness on his entry to the chapter . The courtesy of the P . S . ( Comp . Burgess ) was more than he could possibly have expected from any brother or brethren , and he was particularly struck with the manner in which this companion did his work . In proposing "The Visitors , " the AI . E . Z . said that if

he was to do his work well > n the chapter , he should have to rely upon the assistance and instruction of Com 0 . Dehane , P . Z . They were also glad to welcome Comp . Wilson , who had visited them many times , introduced by Comp . Hewett , H . There was another companion whose voice they had heard and whose work they had seen that evening , Comp . Langley , Prov . G . Treas . Aliddx . If there was one companion they knew welt , and to whom they were

indebted for his readiness and cordiality in coming to assist them , it was Comp . Langley . He would not endeavour to gild refined gold by further reference to the visitors , but wish them every happiness , and ask them to repeat their visit . The visiting companions having replied , the M . F . Z . gave "The Past Principal , " and said the chapter was fortunate

in securing companions who took a pride in their work and in their endeavour to keep up the dignity of the Order . These coming forward could only hope to follow in their footsteps . Comp . J . Coltart , P . Z ., returned thanks , and said he had the interest of the chapter at heart , and had taken a considerable share of the work since the consecration .

Comp . F . Kedge , P . Z ., said that that night he had had the pleasure of exalting a personal friend whom he had known for a considerable time as a worthy Alason and a worthy man . With reference to Conjp . Love ' s remark as to the courtesy of the P . S ., there was no doubt he could not have been introduced under better auspices than of the P . Soj . of the occasion . Comps . Hewett , P . Z ., H ., and Foan , J ., replied for " The

H . and J ., " the latter thanking Comp . Langley for the excellent manner in which he had been installed , and expressing the hope that succeeding occupants of the chair would be as fortunate in having the ceremony so impressively rendered . The toast of "The Officers" afforded the AI . E . Z . an opportunity of which he availed himself in graceful terms of referring to the excellent services rendered by Comps .

Geo . Reynolds , S . E . ; Burgess , P . S . ; Coltart , P . Z ., Treas ., and others . The Janitor's toast closed one of the most successful and enjoyable meetings yet held by this young and flourishing chapter . The musical arrangements were in the hands of Comp . W . J . Thrussell , assisted by Comp . Harry Tipper , Bro . C . Clark , Air . J . WKtcomb , and Miss C . Bruce . The jewel was manufactured by Comp . George Kenning .

Hewett , P . Z ., H . elect ; Geo . H . Foan , J . elect ; C O . Burgess , as P . S . ; J . Rowe , VV . J . Thrussell , and others . Visitors : Comps . A . Wilson , P . Z . SS 9 , P . P . G . S . Surrey W . Dehane , P . Z . ; Geo . R . Langlev , Prov . G . Treas . Middx . ; Orllon Cooper , 192 . S ; and VV . VV . Lee , H . 1524 . The chapter was opened , and the minutes confirmed , and Bro .
