WE HAVE A LETTER from a brother who claims our sympathy in what he calls a case of oppression ( suppression seems more nearly to hit the mark ) . The brother had allowed his dues to accumulate for four months during which he had been absent , and on his return omitted to square matters . On a question being put to the vote about
some matter of local interest , the brother in question voted with the majority and the question was carried by one vote . The W . M . proceeded to disallow our friend's vote , and the numbers then being ; equal , gave his casting vote the other way . Sharp practice possibly , and our lack of sympathy with the brother must not be construed into admiration for the Master . —Indian Masonic Review .

MASONIC BALL . —On the 27 th ult ., a Alasonic ball , under influential patronage , took place in the Town Hall , Wolverhampton , which was prettily decorated for the occasion by Bros . T . J . Salway , J . Lockhart , W . Blake , A . S . Townsend , S . H . Valentine , and R . McBean . Air . F . Rowland's Band ( Shewsbury ) supplied the music . Supper was supplied by Mr . W . were brought within their festive influence . Bro . Sheriff Hand was among the immediate supporters of the Master . WE ARE ASKED by Bro . Chas . H . Stone , I . P . M . 507 , to state he is not the Bro . Stone referred to in our report of the Prov . G . Lodge of Cornwall as having obtained from Bro . Smithson a loan of 1500 votes at the last election of
annuitants to the Benevolent Institution . As this transaction has been the subject of much adverse comment , our correspondent , who is well-known in Masonic circles , and takes an active part in connection with the Charitable Institutions , considers that in justice to himself this disclaimer should be made .
LADY BELPER PRESENTED the prizes to the pupils of Nottingham High School for Girls , and Lord Belper , in a short address , noted that rewards were given for athletic proficiency . He observed with peculiar interest , as the commander of a yeomanry regiment largely recruited from the town and neighbourhood , that prizes were offered in
every class for drilling . At present they were only able to recruit members of the sterner sex , . but no doubt in future , somewhere in the twentieth century , they would hear that owing to the excellent physical training given at that school , and the aspirations towards military success it inspired , a stalwart troop of amazons would be raised in the town .
H . R . H . THE DUKE OF CONNAUGHT , who is to pay a Masonic visit to Worthing on the 17 th inst ., will arrive at 1 . 2 S p . m ., and will probably depart by the 4 . 50 p . m . Luncheon is to take place at the Assembly Rooms at 1 . 30 , and the Provincial Grand Lodge will subsequently meet in the adjoining Drill Hall . Permission has , it is understood , already been granted to connect the two halls , as was done on the occasion of Alderman Patching's ball in the second
year of his Mayoralty . His Royal Highness will not , it is expected , be able to stay for the whole of the business . His consent to receive an address at the hands of the Corporation is quite an innovation as far as the Duke ' s attendance at Masonic functions is concerned , and there is no doubt that the townsfolk will signify the extension in their lavour by offering the Duke a most hearty welcome , The route from the station to the Assembly Rooms will be via Chapel-road , South-street , and a portion of the Parade ,

Robert Montgomery , Chaplain 201 , performing the ceremony . The brethren then dropped the green twigs which they
carried into the grave , formed themselves into a circle , and joining hands around the grave took a final farewell . There was also a very large attendance of the public , which made it one of the largest funerals seen there for a long time . Much sympathy is felt for his widow , who is . left with four young children ,
