. , .... „ . „ The W . M . read a letter from Bro . the Dsan of York , P . G . Chap . Eng ., regretting his inability to be present through illness . He then gave the toast of " The Queen and the Craft , " which having been duly honoured , was succeeded by "The Grand Master and the Grand Lodge of England , " which was also given from the chair . Bro . Cowper , in reply , said that his response was dimmed bv the fact that the Pro Grand Master then lay dead . Those who had attended Grand Lodge would

remember what cood the Earl of Lathom had done in the governing of the Craft . H e had proved himself a governor of men , and the Craft had lost a leading light , and one they would have to mourn over for many years . ( Applause . ) He congratulated Bro , Lindberg on the position he had obtained in presiding over one of ths firs ! lodges in the province , one which had obtained a good record in the past , and ( which they would look forward to being maintained and improved under his government .

Bro . Rev . C . E . L . Wright proposed " The Provincial Grand Master , the Deputy Provincial Grand Master , and the Provincial Grand Lodge of North and East Yorkshire , " which was replied to by Bro . Swift . , ., ,.., , Bro . Whytehead gave "The Memory of our Royal Founder , " and said that they would all remember the day when his Royal Highness the Duke of Clarence met them in the lodge room , St . Saviourgate , and received the founder ' s jewel , and expressed his delight at receiving it . The toast was drunk in solemn silence .

Bro . Whytehead then proposed " The Worshipful Master of the Albert Victor Lodge , No . 232 S , " and spoke of the many years that he had known Bro . Lindberg , and of the high esteem in which he had always held him . He spoke of the great link of friendship and good feeling which was forged by Masonry , and defended it against the allegations from outsiders that it was a mere society for the promotion of dinners . If those people knew the money which the Freemasons bestowed in Charity they would not so readilv believe that charge . Last year 1140 , 000 was gathered for the Boys' School ,

and that was a tremendous amount to be got from their Society . The W . M ., in response , thanked the lodge for putting him in that proud position . He spoke of the benefit he had found Freemasonry to be , for it had broadened his Charity and made him more tolerant and forbearing . They must all feel the deepest sympathy for Bro . J . Melrose , the I . P . M ., in his hour of trial , and deeply regret the cause of his absence , namely , the serious illness of Mrs . Melrose . He proposed " The P ? st Masters" and said that thc position he had held was passed down to him

untar-, nished , and he only hoped that his successor would rece-ivd the ' shield from him , with its brightness undimmed . Bro . J . E . Jones acknowledged the toast . Bro . Rudgard , S . VV ., proposed "The Visitors . " Bro . Cowper responded , and said that the Albert Victor Lodge for its size was foremost in support of the Charities . During the past year six Stewardships hid bsen which forward si

taken up by the members , and he knew no lodge came generously . He explained that the £ 140 , 00 : 1 subscribed for . the Boys' School would bi expended in enlarging the School premises , and would not be invested . The province of N . and E . Yorkshire sent up £ 500 to the annual festival . The Craft had to be congratulated not only on its wealth but on its generosity . Bro . Procter also replied to the toast . Bro . Shann proposed " Ths Officers , " which was acknowledged by Bro . Stephen

son , J . W . The Tyler ' s toast concluded thc list . During the evening songs were sung by Bros . Dawson , Laughton , and Bear

The Secretary informed the lodge that he had received a telegram from Bro . J . VV . H . Thompson , the Treasurer of the lodge , regretting that through illness he was unable to

be present ; this was the more unfortunate as he was to have initiated the candidate , Mr . F . B . Thompson , M . R . C . S ., his brother . Other letters of regret were received from Bros . Sir John Monckton , P . G . W . ; Richard Eve , P . M ., P . G . Treas . ; Lawrence Kellie , W . Nicholl , Herbert Grover , James Fernandez , and Louis Breitmeyer . After the banquet the W . M . proposed the usual toasts , which having been duly honoured ,

Bro . G . E . Wainwright , P . M ., at the request of the W . M ., proposed the toast of " The Grand Officers , Present and Past , " and in doing so referred in touching language to the very great loss that had been sustained by the Craft by the lamented death of that noble brother , the M . W . the Pro G . M ., the Earl of Lathom , a loss which could not be but deeply felt throughout the Masonic world . Bro . VV . Ganz , P . G . Org ., responded in suitable terms .

The toast of "The W . M . " was proposed by Bro . Van Praagh in eloquent terms , to which the VV . M . responded . The VV . M ., in giving the toast of "The P . Ms ., " said that the lodge was most fortunate in having for its P . Ms , such good Masons , who were ever ready and willing to lend a helping hand with the work of the lodge . Their I . P . M . had been compelled to leave them to attend to other duties , but he had been of the greatest assistance in the working of the lodge . Of the rest of the P . Ms , they had only two present : Bros . Wainwright , who had twice passed the chair , and was father of the lodge ; and Times , their esteemed Secretary .

In responding , Bro . Wainwright thanked the lodge for the "bar " to be placed on his Past Master ' s jewel . He reminded the brethren of the time when the P . Ms , of the lodge exceeded in numbers the other members , and that owing to deith and other causes they were now considerably in the minority . Bro . Times , P . M ., Sec , proposed the toast of " The Visitors , " and said that the name of the lodge was Honour and Generosity , and they apparently were considered to live to the

up second half of the name . And it very often happened , as on that occasion , that the visitors exceeded in numbers the members present . It was a very great pleasure to see plenty of guests at the lodge , and he accorded them a most hearty welcome . He was very pleased to announce that one of them—Bro . A . L . Thompsona brother not only of the initiate , but also of the Treasurer , had signified his desire to become a rrember , and he was sure that he would be welcomed by every member of the lodge .

Bros . A . L . Thompson , J . White , and Thos . Bentham responded in eloquent terms .

Bro . Charles Collette also replied , and elicited much amusement by a humorous speech . " The Initiate " was then proposed by Bro . G . E . Wainwright . Bro . T . B . Thompson responded in a neat little speech . He said that he was honoured by being admitted into the mysteries of ancient Freemasonry , and was delighted with the cordial and hearty reception , which he should never forget . The toast of ' * The Officers " having been duly honoured and responded to by Bro . Clarkson ,

The Tyler ' s toast brought the evening to a close . An excellent musical programme had been arranged and was greatly appreciated by all present . The principal items included pianoforte solos by Bros . Ganz , P . G . Org ., and Parker , P . P . G . Org ., and songs by Bros . Fred Cheeswright , and C . F . Frood , and that always popular actor and entertainer , Bro . Charles Collette , who received an ovation from the brethren for some songs and stories which were heard in London for the first time .

It was close on the stroke of midnight when the brethren separated after a thoroughly enjoyable evening had been spent .

Borough of Greenwich Lodge , No . 2332 . The installation meeting of the above prosperous lodge took place on Wednesday , the 23 rd ult ., at the Masonic Rooms of the William the Fourth Hotel , Bro . Burney's handsome and commodious establishment , at East Greenwich . The lodge was in mourning for the late Pro G . M ., Bro . the Earl of Lathom , and was opened at four p . m . by thc W . M ., Bro . A . Eades . The minutes of the previous meeting having been confirmed , the ballot was taken for Mr . Charles Thomasa son of Bro . JG

, . . Thomas , one of the founders of the lodge , who , with the consent of the W . M ., assumed the chair , and initiated his son in splendid style . We miy here say , in parenthesis , that the candidate is the third of his sons that our esteemed Bro . Thomas has initiated , and there is yet another one whom Bro . Thomas intends ( D . , , . The usual loyal toast of " The Ouucn and the Craft " having been honoured , that of " H . R . H . the Prince of VVales , M . W . G . M ., " followed , and the W . M . in proposing it spoke of the universal gratification felt , among Masons more especially , at hearing of the almost complete recovery of his Royal Highness from the effects of the painful accident that had for some months past made a cripple of him . He trusted their Grand Master might be spared for many years to rule and govern the Craft . ( Loud cheers . )

The toastof " The D . G . M ., Earl Amherst ; and the rest of the Grand Officers , Present and Past , " was taken occasion of by the W . M . to express the profound sorrow they and every brother in the kingdom , and wherever the banner of the Grand Lodge of England floated , felt at the almost , he might say , untimely death of their esteemed Pro Grand Master , the Right Hon . the Earl of Lathom . It was not for him to attempt to say a word in praise of that splendid Mason , but thos ; who had served under him knew his worth and regretted his loss . ( Applause . )

The I . P . M . then proposrd the toast of " The W . M . " He said it was one of the most pleasant moments of his life to have to propose so important a toast . He congratulated the VV .

It was close on the stroke of midnight when the brethren separated after a thoroughly enjoyable evening had been spent .
