"The Health of the M . W . S . " was fluently proposed by the I . P . M . W . S . The M . W ., in reply , expressed his thanks to the proposer of the toast for the kind manner in which he had submitted the pledge of his health . He felt exceedingly proud in occupying so high a position in so old and distinguished a body . The Rose Croix was a most beautiful and impressive Degree in Freemasonry , and although he could not hope to equal the efforts of Bro . Lardner , Steele , and others in the working of the ritual , yet he would endeavour to discharge the duties of the chair in a creditable manner , as he had striven to do in other Degrees . The toast of "The Perfectee" followed .

Bro . Calvert , in reply , first tendered his acknowledgmants to his proposer and seconder . He said that for some time he had looked forward to becoming a member of the Ancient and Accepted Rite . He had been greatly impressed with the cerem ony , and he hoped in time to occupy the chair of the Most Wise . "The Health of the Past Sovereigns" was coupled with the names of Bros . D . Jagielski , F . W . Driver , Maj . Anderson , and George Graveley , who reoliel .

In giving the toast of "The Treasurer and Recorder , " the M . W . spoke in high terms of commendation of the all-round services of 111 . Bro . Lardner . The manner in which the duties of Treasurer were performed left little or nothing to be desired . He trusted that for many years Bro . Lardner would be spared to hold that office for the benefit of the chapter . The toast having been duly honoured , was briefly responded to .

"The Health of the Officers , " coupled with the names of Bros . Humphreys , Biddlecombe , and Major Baldwin , terminated the proceedings . During the evening an excellent programme of music was provided , under the management of Bro . Egbert Roberts , whose individual vocal efforts were highly appreciated . Bro . Driver recited his impressive poem on the Rose Croix Degree . The Most Wise is to be congratulated on the great success that attended his installation meeting .

Caer-Daff Chapter , No . 118 . The annual meeting of the above chapter was held at the Masonic Temple , Cardiff , on the 17 th ult . In the unavoidable absence of the M . W . S ., Bro . W . LORD KITCHENER AS A FREEMASON . On Thursday , the above lodge entertained Bro . Lord Kitchener of Khartoum at a luncheon at the Freemasins' Tavern , W . C , after he had concluded his visit to the City . The lodge was opened in the saloon of Drury Lane Theatre , which is its warranted place of meeting , and the W . M ., Bro . Gerald Maxwell ( son of " Miss Braddon , " Mrs . Maxwell ) , presided . Lord Kitchener was a founder of the lodge when it was warranted in 1 S 85 , and he has continued to be a member ever since .

You all feel , I am sure , what a debt we owe to that great man whose illustrious presence has been taken from us . You all feel the same regret that that grace .
