CHRISTOPHER HAMILTON .

Chairman . Thc " copy of said Transactions marked B" is a pamphlet of 26 pages octavo , entitled " Transactions of the Grand Lodge of Ireland on Thursday June 5 , iSotj , To which arc added certain charges preferred b y Brolher Cesar Gautier , P . M . of ( 120 , against John Boardman , Esq ., G . T ., ancl Alexander Jaffray , Esq ., D . G . AI ., with the evidence given thpreon before the Committee to which thc same were referred . Nosv first published by order of the Grand Lodge . "

As the contents of this pamphlet cannot well be gis-en in their entirety in thc columns of thc Freemason , I must content myself with a brief summary on the present occasion . It is quite evident that the Northern invaders carried everything in conformity with their own desires , by the force of numbers , seeing which the Deputy Grand Master closed the Grand Lodge , and retired at an early stage of the proceedings . Whereupon the country

brethren appointed two Chairmen and Wardens from their own ranks , and re-opened the Grand Lodge . The several memorials were then read , and the transactions of the previous meeting , so far as they related to the election of Grand Treasurer and Grand Secretary , sverc rescinded . Altogether about 35 resolutions werc passed evidently with vcry little discussion and with perfect unanimity , one of them being "Thai the Grand Secretary be

restored to that precedence whicii be bad previous to the 5 th day of August , 1 S 01 , and which is his undoubted right . " It svould appear from this that thc order of precedence had been altered , but I can find no evidence to justify this assumption , 011 the contrary , in lists of the Grand Lodge Officers of Ireland dated 4 th January , 1798 , and 24 th lime , iSoi , the Grand

Secretary is placed next after the Grand Treasurer , as is the case in several subsequent lists issued prior to 1806 . However , ihe resolution last quoted was followed by two others , viz . : " That Brother Gorges D'Arcy Irvine be now elected Grand Secretary , pursuant to the unanimous wish of the Brethren , as expressed in tlieir several memorials . "

" That Brother Peter Digges Latouche be elected Grand Treasurer ; and that the money and securities belonging to the Order be forthwith lodged in the Bank of Messrs . Latouche it Co . " It svill thus be seen that the position of these two ofiicers ssas transposed by the Ulster brethren , and in this order their names arc prinled in tlie circulars subsequently issued b y tbat bods-.

The document mentioned in the memorial as " marked D , " is a folio sheet printed by R . Gibson , and headed "GRAND LODGE OF IRELAND , Thursday , October the 2 d , 5 80 ( 1 , The Right Worshipful Brother David Bell , Master of Xo . 2 in the Chair . " It is signed G . D . Irvine , Grand Sec . of Ireland . At first sight this circular ss'ould appear to have emanated from the regular Grand Lodge , whereas a perusal of it reveals the fact that it is merely an attempt to justify thc conduct of those svho , for the

lime being , bad usurped the functions of the constituted authorities . It is apparently a reply to a similar circular issued by the " Committee of the Grand Lodgeof Ireland , " bearing dale Friday , 25 th July , 18116 , in which the late disturbances in the Granel Lodge arc duly set forth and commented upon , of course , from the Dublin point of viesv , and accompanied by various resolutions from 10 of the metropolitan lodges , condemnatory ( if the proceedings of tbe Northern brethren on the 51 b June , and approving the conduct of the Deputy Grand Master .

The paper referred to as " marked E , " is a printed memorial to the Grand Master , dated 1 Gth July , iSofi , from the follosving military lodges , viz .: Nos . 300 , Cavan Militia ; 3 S 9 , iSlh Light Dragoons ; 570 , 5 th Dragoon Guards ; 865 , Donegal Militia ; 935 , Wexford Militia ; and 9 S 2 , 48 th Regiment . It contains the names of the Masters and Wardens of the respective lodges mentioned , and its purport is seeming !} ' to direct llic

attention of the Earl of Donoughmore to the misconduct of the Deputy Grand Master , Bro . Boardman , and sonic of their friends who ordered the complainants to withdraw from tlie Grand Lodge after the D . G . M . had summoned them to attend . It is asserted that the ofiicers named used " most opprobrious , insulting , and provoking language " to them , and also questioned their right to sole as Masons . Thc paper marked F . is a printed folio sheet apparently issued by the

regular Grand Lodge , it is b y far tbe most interesting document 1 have met wilh in this connection , and as an example of cool audacity and boundless assurance it would be extremely bard * , to beal ; indeed , 1 think it too good to be either omitted or abbreviated , and shall , therefore , ask the editor of the Freemason to try and find space for it verbatim . I may , hosves * er , premise that Taylor ' s Hall , Back Lane , had been the home of the Grand Lodge of Ireland for many years prior to 1807 .
