past . He thought there ss * as no one svho knesv anything about the lodge , but would say it had been a great success . It svas not for him to blosv the trutpet too loud , but he hoped every Master svho succeeded to the chair svould be gratified svith an attendance , and a successful meetine-such as the W . old Confidence Lodge svas also present—Bro . Wood—svho svas also Secretary of four lodges of instruction , and helel a very unique position . He hoped all the brethren svho could possibly make it convenient to attend these lodges of instruction svould do so , because there svas no doubt if any Mason svished to get into thc chair he must attend such lodges . He believed that no man should occupy the chair if hc did not shosv an interest sufficiently great to attend

lodges of instruction . He hoped every brother svho aspired to the chair svould have as good fortune as the W . M . had had that night . Bro . Flint , P . M ., svas going up as Stesvard for the Boys' School , and svas desirous of taking up as large a subscription list as possible . The lodge svould do its duty towards him , and he hoped the members svould cordially support the Stesvardship . "The Officers" and the Tyler ' s toast closed svhat was

unanimously agreed to be one of the most pleasant and successful meetings yet held by this flourishing lodge . An exceptionally good programme of music svas rendered , including two songs— " A Golden Dream " and " The Sleigh Driver " —composed by Bro . E . St . Quentin , svho accompanied at the pianoforte . The usual addresses svere ably and efficiently delivered by Bro . VV . M . Stiles , P . M ., who at their close received quite an ovation from the members

and thc visitors . The first duty of the nesvly-installed Master svas to present Bro . Ross , the I . P . M ., with a jesvel which had been unanimously voted by the lodge in recognition of his services in the chair , the W . M . remarking that jt gave him a great pleasure to do it . Bro . Ross expressed his sincere thanks for the kind appreciation of his services , which it had been a great honour to render . A sum having been unanimously voted to a brother svho

was m distress , the lodge svas closed , and the brethren adjourned to a superb bane-uet . At the conclusion of the repast the W . M . gave the usual 'oyal and Masonic toasts , svhich svere cordially received . Bro . Ross , I . P . M ., in proposing "The Health of the W . M ,, " svished him a very happy and successful year of office . lie had been associated with him in Masonry and other matters for very many years , and he svas a good 'ellow .

ihe toast and the W . M . svere received svith great enthusiasm . He gave them his best and most sincere 'hanks for their kind reception , and would do his best during the next 12 months . He svas proud to say that at 'he Audit Committee , a few nights ago , it svas said that whatever he did was done well , lie earnestly hoped that

Jt would alsvays be so , and hc svould endeavour to fulfil 'he duties ol the ollice in a dignified but courteous wanner . the W . M . gave the next toast , "The Installing Master and l > ast Masters . " He paid a great tribute to the excellent svorking of Bro ..,, Stiles , svhich , he said , svas

perfect . He svas delighted that the installation ceremony had been svitnessed by such a good number , svho , he felt sure , admitted that they had never seen better svorking . The members of the lodge svere myrc than proud to have such a member as Bro . Stiles . He had done everything for Masonry . He ( Bro . Stiles ) had been through the fire so many times that he svould advise the members to copy him . He svould take this opportunity of stating that Bro .

Stiles svas a candidate for the office of Grand Treasurer lor 1 S 94 , and that he had the unanimous support of thc lodge . After giving the other Past Masters a few kind svords he mentioned that Bro . W . A . Scurrah had been gooel enough to offer him every assistance in his year of ofiice . The toast svas elrunk svith enthusiasm , Bro . Stiles receiving marked attention .

Bro . W . M . Stiles , in reply , stated that ' hcivas counted as a modest man , and he felt that night very much the many kind things said of him . He certainly tried to do the installation ceremony asellicientlv as he could , as it svas more than a pleasure to install Bro . Knightley , svho hail described himself as one of his ( liro . Stiles ' s ) boys . He thought he svould make a good W . M ., and felt sure that the Iodge svould prosper under his genial chairmanship . He

( Bro . Stiles ) appreciated the W . M . having mentioned that he svas a candidate for the ollice of Grand Treasurer . He aspired to that office for the present year , but retired in favour of Bro . Cochrane . He svas supported by so many influential friends , that he ventured to think that he svould be elected to that high office for 1 S 94 . Bro . Ross , I . P . M ., also replied , remarking that no one took a greater interest in Freemasonry than Bro . Stiles ,

svho had done svonders for all the Charities . Bro . Scurrah also replied . He svas alsvays glad to do anything for that his mother lodge , as was Bro . Stiles , svho had acted as Secretary for the past few months in the absence of their late Secretary , Bro . H . Dickey , through illness . He ( Bro . Scurrah ) thought that the brethren should knosv that Bro . Stiles had a vast number of friends around him , svho appreciated his generosity in giving svay

to Bro . Cochrane , svhich svould make his election almost a certainty . Bro . C . J . Smith , P . M ., also replied . In giving thc toast of " The Initiate , " the VV . M . observed that great care should be exercised in introducing nesv members . What svas svanted svas quality and not quantity . He svas glad to receive Bro . Nizon , svho he thought svould make a good Mason . Bro . Nizon suitably replied .

The Worshipful Master gave the toast of "The Visitors . " They had a great number present , and he gave them all a hearty svelcome . The members had done their best to entertain them , and he hoped they svould all go asvay satisfied , and come again anel again . He svas proud to see so many Past Masters , so large an array of them had never before been seen at an installation of the lodge . He coupled svith the toast the names of Bros . Douglas Smith , R . Wake ,

Arthur Scurrah , J . Stephens , E . Storr , Walter Martin , j . H . Thompson , H . Dehane , R . Loader , VV . Mason , and J . H . Pullen , svhom hc asked to respond . Bro . Douglas Smith , in reply , complimented the VV . M ., and congratulated the members on having so excellent a Master . The svorking of the Installing Master svas perfect , and he hoped that all svho svere aspiring for ollice svould do the svorking as svitnessed that night by Bro . Stiles , svho svas

svell knosvn in the Masonic svorld . 'The jewels he had the honour to svear svere proof of his labours in the cause of Masonrv . Bro . J . H . Pullen also replied . He said tbat svas his lirst visit , but he had often been invited . I le svas delighted with svhat he had seen and heard , and h ; complimented the VV . M . on his festive bearing . He felt bound to remark that svhen Bro . Stiles visited his lodge , svhich he had done on

one or tsvo occasions , hc and the members of his lodge felt honoured in having so distinguished a visitor . Bro . R . Wake also replied . He svas glad to be a visitor that night , and to bear testimony to the grand svorking of Bro . Stiles . Bro . Jas . Stephens felt hosv unable he svas to thank them for their hearty svelcome and profuse hospitality . It

svas the lirst opportunity he had had of visiting the lodge , though often invited , but he should never forget the treatment he had received , liro . Stiles , svhom he had known for many years , svas very energetic in everything he took in hand , and he had never met a more jocular W . M . than Bro . Knightley . Bros . Walter Martin , Arthur Scurrah , Storr , Thompson , Dehane , Loader , and Mason also replied in suitable

terms . The VV . M . gave the toast of " The Charities" coupled svith the nameol Bro . J . M . McLeod . He ( the W . M . ) had done his best to support the Charities , but for many reasons he had certainly clung to the " Boys . " He also referred to the other Charities . Bro . McLeod , Sec . R . M . I . B ., in reply , stated tint there svas vcry little need in that lodge to advocate the Charities .

He congratulated the VV . M . on his svell-knosvn support of the Charities . He svas at another gathering in the same building , svh'ch svas a long-standing engagement , or he svould has * e been present at the hospitable board . In eloquent terms he urged the members to support thc W . M ., svho had consented to be Steward for tie Boys , and svhose list he felt sure would be one of the largest next June , and in conclusion he remarked that the lodge had in Bro . W .

A . Scurrah , a member of the lodge , a good representative on the Board of Management of the Boys . The next toasts svere " The Treasurer and Secretary " and " The Ollicers , " to svhich suitable responses svere made . 'The 'Tyler's toast brought a very happy and pleasant evening to a close .

The musical arrangements sverc carried out under the able elirection of Mr . Edwin Rudston , assisted by Bros . VV . 11 . Webb , Fred . Stephens , the Montague Mandoliuists , and Wilfrid Davies , svho ably accompanied . The VV . M . is to be congratulated on the great success of the meeting .

Hro . Lennox Brosvne installed Bro . Frank Jameson as VV . M ., svho had received Masonic light at the hands of the same brother , and svas the lirst initiate of the lodge svho had reached the Master ' s chair . The following brethren received the collars of ofiice : Bros . E . E . Harding , I . P . M . ; Warden Dennis , S . W . ; Hermann Klein , J . VV . ; Lennox Brosvne , P . M ., Treas . ; Charles ] . A handsome Past Master's jesvel svas presented to Bro . E . E . Harding . On the motion of the Treasurer , 25 guineas svas voted to the Girls' School , and 10 guineas to the Boys ' , after svhich the lodge svas closed , and a superb banquet partaken of . The usual toasts follosved , and the speeches svere

interspersed svith some beautiful music and singing by Signor Novara , Miss Jessie Hudleston , Miss Isabel Rayner , and Bro . Oudin ; Bros . Wilhelm Ganz , P . G . O ., and Hermann Klein accompanying . Miss Behnke also svell rendered some recitations . Bro . Sir J . B . Monckton , replying to the toast of " The Grand Ollicers , Present and Past , " referred to the svork of the lodge on behalf of Masonic Charity , svhich he svas glad

had received another illustration that evening in the vote to the Girls'and the Boys' Schools . Masons must congratulate themselves on the successful svork of the Masonic Schools . They had reatl in the Daily Telegraph that morning that the Head Governess had sent up 45 girls from the Girls' School for examination at the College of Preceptors , and everyone of them had come out svith a certificate . They ought to be thoroughly satisfied svith that .

Bro . Lennox Brosvne proposed "The Kindred Grand Lodges , " for which he asked General Laurie , P . G . M ., Nova Scotia , to respond . Bro . Gen . Laurie , in reply , said he svas at the consecration of thc Empire Lodge in 1 SS 5 , and had been present at many meetings of tbe lodge since . That svas very gratifying to him , because one of the objects of the lodge was to biing into closer connection home and colonial brethren .

They received him at first as a transient brother , but he svas nosv a resident in London . He svas not singular in that respect , for Lord Carrington svas now in England , anel Lord Jersey svas coming home . Soon such brethren svould be as thick as leaves of Vallambrosa , and these Colonial Grand Masters svould be another link to bind the mother country

and the Colonies together . I he Imperial Institute svas to be inaugurated this year , and there svould be a conference of eminent statesmen , so that the lodge svould have yet another opportunity of entertaining the Colonial brethren . He knesv they svould rise to their obligation . They should recruit their ranks , increase theirnuinb 5 r .=, ands 2 lectsomeof the choicest material svhich svas to be obtained from the sister Grand

Lodges of the Colonies . Bio . E . E . Harding , I . P . M ., proposed "The W . M . " Duiingthe fesv years he had had the honour of belonging to the lodge he had had many pleasurable duties ; but on this occasion they svere eclipsed by having to propose the health of the VV . M . lie had been remarking that one could almost measure the flight of time by sundry installations . It svas but the other day he sasv Bro . Lennox Browne initiate

Bro . Jameson ; it svas four or live years ago , and nosv they sasv Bro . Frank Jameson in the chair of K . S . He svould remind the brethren that if they svould strive to svork as Bro . Jameson had stris'en , they could soon attain the highest position . 'They all knesv svhat a good Mason , and svhat a rare good fellosv Bro . Jameson svas . 'The VVorshipfuI Master said he had to thank all the brethren , and particularly the I . P . M ., for the very

flattering svay he had spoken of him , and the brethren for the kindly svay in svhich they had received his remarks . He svas very proud indceel of the position he sva , nosv occupyingas VV . M . of the Empire Lodge ; but in being so proud , it svas only due to him to say that it svas a tribute to the ollice of W . M . more than to himself , because he svas only filling the position of W . M . by chance . There sverc other ollicers before him svho broke from the rank by obtaining

appointments abroad , and so caused the vacancy svhich he filled . Asthe I . P . M . observed , hc ( Bro . Jameson ) svas a very young Mason ; in fact it svas a very few years since he was initiated in that lodge . Thc only advantage he could possibly see in being VV . M . svas to encourage thc younger members svho came into the loelge to look forsvard to becoming Master in the same rapid manner as hc had . He should be very ungrateful if he sat dosvn without most

cordially thanking his godfather in Masonry , Bro . Lennox Browne , svho not only initiated him , but stood his friend , and gave him advice , and helped him materially in his Masonic svorking anel progress . He svas doubly honoured that night by being supported by his godfather and by his vcry dear paternal father also , lie then proposed "The I . P . M . and Past Masters . " With reference to the Installing Master , svords failed him to express hosv beautifully

Bro . Lennox Brosvne performed the ceremony of installation . The brethren , hosvever , heard it , and they all appreciated it , but he svas sure none appreciated it more than he ( Bro . Jameson . ) lie thanked Hro . Lennox Brosvne for the svork he did , and his appreciation was enhances ! by the knosvledge that the lime of a professional man was much occupied , and , therefore , the greater praise svas due to him for svorking up the installation , for hosvever well the work

was known , it svas easily forgotten , and alsvays reepjired fresh study . With reference to thc Past Masters , he had to thank Bro . Harding for the beautiful svay in which he iniliated their very charming musical brother , svhich he svas sure deeply impressed Bro . Oudin . They svere especially honoured in ranking Bro . Trendell as a Past Master of their lodge , and liro . Sir 11 . Philip Cunliffe Owen . Bio . Lennox Brosvne , P . M ., Treas ., said he had had

M ., with a jesvel which had been unanimously voted by the lodge in recognition of his services in the chair , the W . M . remarking that jt gave him a great pleasure to do it . Bro .
