The Committee of General Purposes beg to report that they have examined the accounts from the 16 th January to the 16 th April , 18 S 9 , both inclusive , which they find to be as follows :

The Grove Chapter , No . 410 , from the Swan Hotel , Leatherhead , to the ^ Pnng Hotel , Ewell , in the Province of Surrey . . *" Old King ' s Arms Chapter , No . 28 , from the Freemasons' Tavern , * - ¦ * " * the Freemasons' Hall , Great Oueen-street .

Supreme Grand Chapter.

The Committee recommend that the removal of these chapters be sanctioned . The Committee have further to report that in consequence of the formation and recognition of a Grand Lodge of New South Wales , there are no longer English Craft Lodges in that colony to which the chapters meeting in New South Wales can be attached , as required by Article 45 , Royal Arch Regulations .

The Committee , therefore , recommend that the Charters of the Chapters , Nos . 390 , 547 , 817 , 1653 , 1654 , 1762 , 1795 , 18 9 8 , and 1 943 , be withdrawn and cancelled , and that the chapters be erased from the Register of the Grand Chapter . On the motion of Comp . ROBERT GREY , seconded by Comp . FRANK RICHARDSON , the recommendations in the above report of the Committee of General Purposes were agreed to . Comp . ROBERT GREY : I now move " That as , in consequence of the formation and recognition of a Grand Lodge of New South Wales , there

are no longer English Craft Lodges in that Colony to which the chapters meeting in New South Wales can be attached , as required b y Article 45 , Royal Arch Regulations , the charters of the Chapters Nos . 390 , 547 , 817 , 1653 , 1654 , 1762 , 1795 , 18 98 , and 1943 be withdrawn and cancelled , and that the chapters be erased from the Register of Grand Chapter . " Comp . FRANK RICHARDSON : I beg to second it .

Comp . F . H . GOLDNEY : I wish to know if these chapters have been communicated vvith on the subject . Have they not had any notice of what vve are asked to do ? There is no explanation on the report of the Committee as to the revocation of the charters of these chapters . Comp . ROBERT GREY : I have read the reason why . It is because there are now no English Craft lodges in New South Wales to which the chapters meeting in that colony can be attached , as required by Article 45 of the Royal Arch Regulations .

Comp . Col SHADWELL H . CLERKE : There is no English lodge to which English chapters could be attached ; the lodges have gone over to the Grand Lodge of New South Wales . Comp . F . H . GOLDNEY : But have they not been informed ? Comp . SHADWELL H . CLERKE : There is no necessity for their being informed ; they must know it .

Comp . ROBERT GREY : You see , they must always be attached to a lodge . They will be informed of what we do . Comp . Major GEORGE LAMBERT : But the lodges work there . Comp . Col . SHADWELL H . CLERKE : Yes ; but they have now got a Grand Lodge of their own . Comp . Major LAMBERT : They still carry on in their own names .

Comp . ROBERT GREY : Yes ; but they do not belong to our Grand Lodge . Comp . Col . TOWNLEY CALDWELL : As I understand it , there are no longer any English Craft lodges there belonging to United Grand Lodge

of England to which these chapters can be attached . Comp . SHADWELL H . CLERKE - . Just so . The motion was then put and carried . The appointment and election of the Committee of Genera ! Purposes vvas afterwards taken .

Comp . Col . TOWNLEY CALDWELL announced that the M . E . Z . had appointed Comps . the Earl of Carnarvon , the Earl of Lathom , Lord Leigh , Robert Grey , President ; E . Letchworth , and R . T . Pigott as members . Comps . Capt . T . C . Walls , 3 ; W . H . Ferryman , 1345 5 Charles E . Keyser , 404 ; Gordon Robbins , 10 ; VV . A . Dawson , 382 ; and Lennox Browne , 2108 , were also nominated , seconded , and declared duly elected ; after which Grand Chapter vvas closed .

A Speciai meeting of the above Provincial Grand Lodge vvas held at the Masonic Hall , Commercial-road , Landport , on Monday , the 29 th ult ., for the purpose of moving a vote of condolence to the relatives of the late Provincial Grand Master , Bro . the Rev . Canon George Raymond Portal , P . G . M ., and of electing abrother to be recommended to H . R . H . the Prince of Wales , M . W . G . M ., for appointment to the office of Provincial Grand Master . The D . P . G . M ., Bro . R . Loveland Loveland , was supported by Bros . W . W . B . Beach , M . P ., P . G . M . ; G . J . Tilling , P . S . G . W . ; G . T . Lancaster , P . P . J . G . W . ; H . The PROV . G . SECRETARY read the notice convening the Prov . Grand Lodge , and called over the roll of lodges , when it was found that each one vvas dul / represented . Letters of apology vvere read from a number of brethren , regretting unavoidable absence .

The D . P . G . M . then addressed the brethren upon the two important subjects before them . He informed them that several members of the province had attended the funeral of their late P . G . Master , and that he had placed a wreath , in the name of the province , upon his grave . In feeling terms he bore testimony to the high esteem and veneration entertained

by all for Canon Portal , and said that a kindlier chief , a more painstaking P . G . Master , a better Mason , and truer friend he had never heard of , nor did he think , ever existed . The late P . G . Master ' s spare time seemed to him to have been devoted chiefly to Freemasonry , which had undoubtedl y lost one of the brightest and most cultured of its members . Bro . W . W . B . BEACH , M . P ,, then moved the following resolution :

Supreme Grand Chapter.

The Committee recommend that the removal of these chapters be sanctioned . The Committee have further to report that in consequence of the formation and recognition of a Grand Lodge of New South Wales , there are no longer English Craft Lodges in that colony to which the chapters meeting in New South Wales can be attached , as required by Article 45 , Royal Arch Regulations .

The Committee , therefore , recommend that the Charters of the Chapters , Nos . 390 , 547 , 817 , 1653 , 1654 , 1762 , 1795 , 18 9 8 , and 1 943 , be withdrawn and cancelled , and that the chapters be erased from the Register of the Grand Chapter . Comp . F . H . GOLDNEY : I wish to know if these chapters have been communicated vvith on the subject . Have they not had any notice of what vve are asked to do ? There is no explanation on the report of the Committee as to the revocation of the charters of these chapters . Comp . ROBERT GREY : I have read the reason why . It is because there are now no English Craft lodges in New South Wales to which the chapters meeting in that colony can be attached , as required by Article 45 of the Royal Arch Regulations .

Comp . Col SHADWELL H . CLERKE : There is no English lodge to which English chapters could be attached ; the lodges have gone over to the Grand Lodge of New South Wales . Comp . F . H . GOLDNEY : But have they not been informed ? Comp . SHADWELL H . CLERKE : There is no necessity for their being informed ; they must know it .

Comp . ROBERT GREY : You see , they must always be attached to a lodge . They will be informed of what we do . Comp . Major GEORGE LAMBERT : But the lodges work there . Comp . Col . SHADWELL H . CLERKE : Yes ; but they have now got a Grand Lodge of their own . Comp . Major LAMBERT : They still carry on in their own names .

Comp . ROBERT GREY : Yes ; but they do not belong to our Grand Lodge . Comp . Col . TOWNLEY CALDWELL : As I understand it , there are no longer any English Craft lodges there belonging to United Grand Lodge

of England to which these chapters can be attached . Comp . SHADWELL H . CLERKE - . Just so . The motion was then put and carried . The appointment and election of the Committee of Genera ! Purposes vvas afterwards taken .

Comp . Col . TOWNLEY CALDWELL announced that the M . E . Z . had appointed Comps . the Earl of Carnarvon , the Earl of Lathom , Lord Leigh , Robert Grey , President ; E . Letchworth , and R . T . Pigott as members . Comps . Capt . T . C . Walls , 3 ; W . H . Ferryman , 1345 5 Charles E . Keyser , 404 ; Gordon Robbins , 10 ; VV . A . A Speciai meeting of the above Provincial Grand Lodge vvas held at the Masonic Hall , Commercial-road , Landport , on Monday , the 29 th ult ., for the purpose of moving a vote of condolence to the relatives of the late Provincial Grand Master , Bro . the Rev . Canon George Raymond Portal , P . G . M ., and of electing abrother to be recommended to H . R . H . the Prince of Wales , M . W . G . M ., for appointment to the office of Provincial Grand Master . The PROV . G . SECRETARY read the notice convening the Prov . Grand Lodge , and called over the roll of lodges , when it was found that each one vvas dul / represented . Letters of apology vvere read from a number of brethren , regretting unavoidable absence .

The D . P . G . M . then addressed the brethren upon the two important subjects before them . He informed them that several members of the province had attended the funeral of their late P . G . Master , and that he had placed a wreath , in the name of the province , upon his grave . In feeling terms he bore testimony to the high esteem and veneration entertained

by all for Canon Portal , and said that a kindlier chief , a more painstaking P . G . Master , a better Mason , and truer friend he had never heard of , nor did he think , ever existed . The late P . G . Master ' s spare time seemed to him to have been devoted chiefly to Freemasonry , which had undoubtedl y lost one of the brightest and most cultured of its members . Bro . W . W . B . BEACH , M . P ,, then moved the following resolution :
