PLUMSTEAD . —Pattison Chapter ( No . 913 ) . —The installation convocation of this flourishing chapter took place on Thursday , the 19 th ult ., at the Masonic Temple , Mount-street , and was attended by the 6 \ ite oi the Order in the district and province . The chapter was opened by Comp . E . B . Hobson , M . E . Z . ; Comp . R . J . Cook , H . ; and Comp . J . H . Roberts , J . The
companions lvere then admitted , and the minutes and accounts passed . Comp . A . Penfold , P . Z ., P . Z . 13 , P . Z . 1472 , P . P . G . 2 nd Asst . Soj ., then proceeded to instal the Three Principals , and with the full Pattison ceremonial Comp . R . J . Cook was placed in the chair of Z . ; Comp . Roberts in the chair ol H . ; and Comp . E . Palmer in that of I . The companions invested as officers were as follows :
Comps . A . Penfold , Treas . ; H . J . Butter , P . Z ., P . P . G . ist Asst . Soj ., Scribe E . ; S . Clarke , Scribe N . j C . H . Lawson , P . Soj . ; E . Morris , ist Asst . Soj . ; W . G . Ltovd , 2 nd Asst . Soj . ; W . B . Lloyd , P . Z ., P . G . Swd . Br ., D . C ; W . Musto , P . Z ., Stwd . ; and VV . Larder , Janitor . The addresses were splendidly rendered by the Installing * Officer , while the manner in which Comp . T . S .
Warne , P . Z 20 , P . P . G . Scribe E ., assisted in the various scripture readings vvas most impressive , and a cordial vote of thanks was accorded the Installing Officer for his excellent work . Comp . Hobson was then presented with a handsome and valuable P . Z . 's jewel , and returned thanks . The usual guinea was then voted to the High School for Girls prize list , and then the chapter vvas closed .
Among the other companions present were Comps . C . Coupland , P . Z ., P . P . G . J . ; E . Denton , P . Z ., P . P . G . P . Suj . ; T . D . Hayes , * VOL ., P . P . G . 2 nd Asst . Soj . ; Captain Eugene Sweny , P . Z . ; H . Mason , P . Z ., P . P . G . Std . Br . ; R . Edmonds , P . Z . ; W . G , Taylor , G . Frost , W . Busbridge , R . Hewitson , W . Sanders , E . B . Saunders , G . Nichols , D . C . Capon , W . Harris , Dr .
Bryceson , H . Ough , J . Topp , A Campbell , Dr . H . Bernays , H . 1973 ; and C . Jolly ( Honorary ) , H . 1472 , all ot the chapter ; G . Spinks , Z . 13 ; J . Harrison , J . E . Edmonds , P . Soj . 1507 ; A . W . Bateman , M . E . Z . 1973 ; F . Nichols , J . 1973 ; A . Woodley , J . 13 ; H . De Gray , 11 , and others . The banquet vvas partaken of at the Holborn Restaurant ,
and at its conclusion the usual loyal , Royal Arch , and Grand Chapter toasts were honoured . The M . E . Z . then proposed the toast of "The Right Hon . Earl Amherst , Grand Superintendent of Kent , " and in giving it said it was one that always appealed to their love and affection and was never made in vain , because Earl Amherst vvas the head of a very happy family
in the Province of Kent , among whom none were more proud of that distinction than the companions of the chapter , and he felt , therefore , that it vvould be drunk vvith just as much , if not greater warmth , than that which had preceded it . The M . E . Z . then gave the toast of " Comp . Eastes , P . G . H ., and the rest of the Prov . Grand Officers , Present
and Past ; " and in response Comp . Butter said he was sorry for them that the response to a toast of so much importance had been placed in his hands ; it would have been done honour to it it had been entrusted to Comp . Penfold . However , he heartily thanked them on behalf of Comp . Eastes and the Past Prov . Grand Officers for their kindly reception of the toast ,
and had he known , would have had a nice little speech ready for the occasion . It was a toast that vvas often given in a perfect manner , and he could not help thinking it a pity ihat it should always be given at a time when the companions wanted a smoke . He should therefore , as he wanted to do all he could for the happiness and comfort of the companions , respond to it in a perfunctory manner , so that they might get their smoke and enjoy it . He then
Royal Arch.
referred to the M . E . Z ., and felt sure that under his rule the chapter would become , like the Pattison Lodge , one of the foremost in the province . They had had good Principals in the past , and in their First Principal they had one who was determined to do his duty , and he asked the companions to assist him , and make the chapter a flourishing one .
Comp . Hobson then proposed the toast of" The M . E . Z ., " and jocularly said he was rather surprised at the speech of Comp . Butter , for he hardly knew whether he was responding for the Grand Officers or proposing the toast of the First Principal . He vvas sure their esteemed companion had no desire to do so , but he had completely taken the wind out of his ( Comp . Hobson ' s ) sails . Now , from
what he saw of the M . E . Z ., and from what he knew of him , he bid fair to be one of the best M . E . Z . ' s that the chapter had had for many years . He had presided over them that night in a perfect manner , and had made the banquet a great success , and he thought they might all look forward to a year of great success under the rule of their M . E . Z . He asked them to drink the toast in
bumpers . The M . E . Z ., in responding , said he should do , during his year of office , all that they could expect a First Principal to do—that vvas , to promote the interest of the chapter and hearty good fellowship amongst the companions , in consummating which he asked their support and assistance . Comp . Roberts , in responding for the Second and Third
Principals , assured the M . E . Z . of his desire and determination to assist him in his aspirations . Comp . Palmer said that to be a Principal of such a chapter as that of the Pattison was , in his opinion , one of the highest honours he could aspire to . He had been " Hobson's choice , " and now he vvas "Cook ' s mate , " and vvould work on in such a spirit of emulation as to be worthy
of future advancement . The M . E . Z . then gave the toast of "The Installing Officer , " and said that those vvho had the privilege of witnessing * the installation of the Principals vvould agree with him in saying that the vvork had been done in a most efficient manner , and , moreover , they would also agree with him that it was done in a most graceful manner , and could
only have been done by one whose ability was commensurate with his Masonic knowledge and education . The only way they had to express their admiration was to drink the health of Comp . Penfold , and wish him many years of health and strength to do again and . again as he had done that day . Comp . Penfold , in responding , said the M . E . Z . had
spoken very much in his praise , yet he felt that he had not spoken flatteringly ; for every word that had fallen from his lips was the truth . It had been the practice for many years past to ask one of the P . G . Officers to do the installation . That was all right , but he thought that it was also right that one of the P . Z . ' s of the chapter should be ready to do it in case the P . Grand Officer chosen could not attend .
He felt it a great honour to have had the opportunity of installing the First Principal ever installed in their new Masonic temple . He found in Comp . Warne a good and excellent help . He asked them to attend the P . G . Chapter meeting at Margate the following day , and show by their numbers that their chapter was well represented . He paid a high compliment to the M . E . Z ., and said his reign was
sure to enhance the prosperity and prestige of the chapter . The toast of " The Visitors " was eloquently responded to by Comps . Spinks , Nichols , and Edmunds , and Comps . Butter , Hayes , and Hobson responded for "The Past Principals , " and then the toast of "The Officers" concluded the proceedings , which were interspersed with some clever singing by Madame Adeline Paget , and Bros . Alfred Moore and Reginald Groome . Comp . Lift presided at the piano .

P . G . 2 nd Asst .
He then

referred to the M .
