PROVINCIAL GRAND LODGE OF SUFFOLK .
The members of the Provincial Grand Lodge of Suffolk held their annual meeting at Sudbury on Wednesday , the 18 th ult ., meeting for business in the well-appointed Freemasons' Hall , North-street . There was a large assemblage of brethren under their R . W . Prov . G . M ., Bro . the Right Hon . Lord Henniker . Amongst other present were the Deputy Prov . G . M ., Bro . the Rev . C . J . Martyn , and numerous visitors . All the lodges in the province except the Apollo , St . Margaret ' s , and St . Andrew ' s were represented .
On the motion of Bro . BOBY , seconded by Bro . W . P . T . PHILLIPS , Bro E . P . Youell , P . M . 1631 , P . P . S . G . W ., was unanimously re-elected
Prov . Grand Treasurer . The PROV . G RAND MASTER then proceeded to invest the Prov . Grand Officers . He said he did not intend to go through the form of investing his Deputy , Bro . the Rev . C . J . Martyn , because he held the office at pleasure , and he was sure it vvould be the pleasure of the lodge that he should hold it for many years to come . The other officers were then invested as follows :

The Board of General Purposes in their report said they had again the pleasure of congratulating the Province on the marked improvement that had taken place , not only in the financial . position , but also in the numerical strength during the past year . The returns showed a total of 905 members , as against 879 last year . " The statement of liabilities and assets showed a balance of £ 40 13 s . 4 d . The Board recommended that the sum of £ io ios . be voted to each of the three Masonic Institutions .
On the motion of Bro . W . P . T . PHILLIPS , seconded by Bro . BOBY , the report was adopted . Unfortunately , the imposing procession of the officers and brethren in full Masonic clothing , had barely emerged from their hall for their special service at St . Gregory ' s Church , when the rain fell heavily , almost soaking
those of the brethren and the spectators unprovided with overcoats or umbrellas . Many of the former got wet , and were obliged to protect as well as they could their aprons , collars , gauntlets , and jewels from the driving rain . Later on , during the service , there was a thunderstorm , but afterwards the air cleared .
At the church , the arrangements were admirable , seats being reserved for ihe Masons in the nave , who , with the general congregation filled the sacred building . Mr . P . Constable assisted in seating the people ; his brother warden , Bro . G . H . Grimwood , had to take his place in the procession , but gave help in the collection of the offertory . The church had
been prettily decorated with flowers , and numerous pot plants placed round the font and on each side of the chancel screen , while there were also choice bouquets on the altar table , and a band of rich roses round the bowl of the font . The flowers , & c , were kindly supplied by Bro . Dr . Mason , Dr . Holden , Messrs . Lynch , Constable , Cundy , and Thursby , and they were placed in position by Miss Mason .
The prayers were intoned by the rector , Rev . T . L . Green , and Rev . J . A . Colborne , and the lessons read and sermons preached by the Prov . G . Chaplain for the year , Bro . the Rev . Barrington Syer , rector of Keddington , near Haverhill . The singing was unusually well executed by the choir , assisted by members of the choir of St . Peter , under the judicious
conductorship of Mr . John Bruce , the choirmaster . Mr . T . Elliston proved , as usual , an admirable accompanist , and also played several voluntaries on his fine instrument very effectively . The preacher impressively delivered an eloquent and practical sermon from Acts vii , 47 th and part of 48 th verse , " But Solomon built him an house , & c . "
On the resumption of the lodge , Bro . J . M . HARVEY read the seventh annual report of the Suffolk Masonic Charity Association , which stated that Suffolk had this year beaten all previous records , having contributed to the Charities no less than £ 1110 17 s . Bro . W . CLARKE , in an eloquent speech , moved the report , and said as Masons they must all feel proud of the grand results which had been achieved during the past year .
The DEPUTY PROV . GRAND MASTER seconded the motion , which was carried unanimously . The PROV . GRAND MASTER then addressed the brethren upon the present state and future prospects of Masonry in the Province . He thought the reports which had been read showed that they were making satisfactory progress , and he was pleased to state that not only had they increased in
numbers , but many good and earnest Masons had been found amongst the latest additions to the province . During the past year he had had the opportunity of visiting several of the lodges , and he had been very much p leased in nearly every case with the way in which the work had been done . The report which Bro . Harvey had just read relative to the Masonic Charities was also very gratifying indeed . He had always looked upon the
Masonic Chanties as the most important work they had to attend to , and it vvas most satisfactory to know that those Charilies were so well supported in the province over which he had the honour of presiding . He was grateful to Bro . Harvey for having taken up the work so successfully started by Bro . Boby , and so energetically carried on by Bro . Grimwade . After a brief allusion to the loss vvhich the province had sustained by the death of the late Bro , Barber , whom , he described as an excellent Mason , the
