THEALEXANDRIACIGARETTECO.'S NEW BRAND . DRAGOUMIS. PREPARED OF THE PUREST TURKISH TOBACCOS . The highest classes of tobacco , however , are converted into the well-known " Dragoumis , " for which the Alexandria Cigarette Company have gained a deservedly high reputation , and we have no hesitation in saying , after a practical test so far as our taste and judgment permit , that they are superior to any we have yet tried , either imported or otherwise . — Whitehall Review . Their latest brand , " Dragoumis , " made of a skilful blend of fine Egyptian tobaccos , is full of flavour , yet delicately fragrant enough to please the most fastidious palate . We shall be surprised if "Dragoumis" do not prove the cigarette of the season . —Pump Court .

The Pro Grand Master And The So-Called Grand Lodge Of Victoria.
THE PRO GRAND MASTER AND THE SO-CALLED GRAND LODGE OF VICTORIA .
To the Editor of the "Freemason . " Dear Sir and Brother , The attention of Lord Carnarvon having been called to a letter from Bro . W . F . Lamonby , in your issue of the 21 st ult ., in vvhich he quotes a statement from a
Melbourne paper of the 5 th June last , to the effect that his lordship had expressed himself perfectly satisfied with the legality of the proceedings taken some time since by the body styling- itself the Grand Lodge of Victoria , respecting its formation , Lord Carnarvon requests me to say that there is evidently some mistake on the subject , as he is not aware of having ever expressed himself in the terms therein stated . —Yours fraternally .

AMERICAN HONOURS FOR ENGLISH MASONS . To the Editor of the " Freemason . " Dear Sir and Brother , In your last issue , you transfer—under the above heading—a portion of Bro . Parvin's " Report , " as Grand Secretary of the Grand Lodge of Iowa , together with an item from the subsequent "Proceedings" of that body ;
the former giving the names of certain brethren proposed for the distinction of Honorary Membership , and the latter recording the fact that the brethren thus recommended by the Grand Secretary were duly elected by the Grand Lodge . Among these names appears my own , and , while I should be sorry if for an instant it were imagined that I in any
way undervalued the compliment that has been paid me , there are , nevertheless , certain features in the case , which cannot be altogether passed over , sub silentio , without some misconception arising . That my " History of Freemasonry " has been pirated in the U . S . A . is common knowledge , and also that the publisher was assisted in palming off his spurious wares ,
as genuine ones , by three brethren in high quarters . One of these brethren was Bro . Parvin , and though I accept , without the slightest reserve , his assurance that ( in effect ) he was himself both hoodwinked and misled , the fact still remains that the American Craft was gulled by a false statement that three of its members were severally co-authors of my work ; therefore , while I appreciate Bro .
Parvin ' s suggestion to his Grand Lodge much , I should have appreciated far more a public renunciation on his part of the countenance and support given by him ( however unwittingly ) to the sale of a History of Freemasonry purporting to be written by me , with the " assistance " of himself and others . The action taken by the American Masonic press has
somewhat bewildered me . Everywhere I find kindly notices of my book , but nowhere do I meet with any reprobation of the manner in which the result of long years of labour has been coolly filched from me by an Ohio publisher . Indeed , the Keystone ( Philadelphia ) presents week after
week , in a flaming advertisement , a recommendation by Bro . J . Simons , P . G . M . New York , to buy my " History , " as the repertory ( so to speak ) of Masonic wisdom , but at the foot thereof there is a reference to the local agency of the Ohio publisher ; so in this case the praise bestowed on the author is simply a ruse to promote the success of the
piracy . Thus I am virtually being pillaged , under a colouvable pretence of extolling my literary and Masonie merits , and here the familiar lines come home to me : — " They kicked him down stairs with such exquisite grace
You'd have thought they were handing him up . " I am afraid there is a good deal of unreality—not to say pure , undiluted humbug—in American Masonry , and that the " profession " of our trans-Atlantic brethren is in many cases much better than their " practice . " In my next literary venture—and I am now preparing a work on Masonic Jurisprudence—I shall hope for the protection of
an international law of copyright , for without it the English Masonic author has little mercy to expect at the hands of his brethren in America . " Smooth words butter no parsnips , " as the old proverb has it ; and while I am fully sensible of the honour and distinction involved in the election to the honorary membership of a Grand Lodge , I sincerely trust that if any other
Grand Lodge in America should examine my own claim to be considered a faithful historian of the Craft , the members thereof will place on record such an expression of opinion with regard to the way in which my labours have been recognised in the United States of America , as may tend to render slightly less probable in the future any similar spoliation in the case of an English Masonic author . — Yours fraternally , R **** , GOULD . MASONS' MARKS . To the Editor of the "Freemason . " Dear Sir and Brother , Will you kindly allow me , through your columns , to make inquiries of some of your learned readers concerning Masons' Marks ? Bro . Hughan , in a most interesting , lecture which he delivered a few days ago , referred to a
lodge in Aberdeen which instructed—in the year 1670—each member to select " a Mark . " I am wishful to learn whether this " Mark " was supposed to be used only in signing the lodge books , or whether it was customary to use the " Mark" in their ordinary business signatures . In a large collection of sixteenth and seventeenth century documents which I have been fortunate in discovering belonging to the " Delaval" family , and which consist largely of
