Stone , Tyler . Bro . Rev . H . Price moved that a sum of money be taken out of the lodge funds in aid of the Peterboro' Cathedral Restoration Fund . He explained that whilst Freemasons were superior to anything like sectarianism , they naturally took a pride in such grand national monuments of architectural skill and beauty as their cathedrals were known to be . The motion was

seconded by Bro . T . Cox , P . P . S . G . W ., and carried without discussion . The banquet , which was subsequently served by Bro . Day in the dining hall , was very much appreciated by a large number of guests .

The healths of the newly-appointed Master and his deservedly popular predecessor were enthusiastically honoured , and the evening was spent very harmoniously . It should be added that the musical arrangements , which were on an unusually extensive scale , were under the direction of Bro . W . L . Dodd . P . P . G . O .

KINGS TON-ON-THA MES . Brownrigg Lodge ( No . 16 3 8 ) . — A large number of the brethren , with about the usual number of visitors , assembled at the Albany Hall , on VVednesday , the 17 th ult ., on the occasion of the installation meeting . After the routine business had been transacted , the VV . M ., Bro . W . Drewett , assisted by his Wardens , Bros . Montague

and Willis , proceeded with the work set down to be done before the chief ceremony of the day came on . Bros . F . Pennington and Ikin were passed to the F . C . Degree , and Mr . J . H . Strachan and Mr . W . G . Palmer , after being unanimously elected , were initiated into the mysteries of the Craft . So expeditiously was the work got through that the J . W . was called on to make a "declaration , " and after

an interval of half an hour labour was resumed , and the VV . M . appointed Bro * . Colbron . VV . M . SSg , to the chair of S . W ., and Bro . F . Dangerficld , VV . M . 1260 , to that of J . W . Bro . Montague , Worshipful Master elect , was then presented to the Installing Master , Bro . W . Drewett , and the usual forms and ceremonies were conducted in a correct and impressive manner , resulting in the

proclamation to the brethren in due time , that Bro . Montague had been regularly installed in the chair of K . S . Bro . Laurence , P . M ., Sec , assisted the Installing Master as D . C , and , in order to give the Past Masters an interest in the working of the lodge , the three addresses were delivered respectively by Bros . I . Drewett , G . Moorman , and VV . IT . Humphreys . The W . M . appointed the following as his

M ., and after " Hearty good wishes" the lodge was closed , the brethren adjourning to

the Sun Hotel to banquet . The customary toasts were given , but the W . M . set an example of brevity in speech , which was followed by all who rose to respond . During the Mastership of the I . P . M . he initiated seven candidates , and there is every promise of the good working which has so far characterised and

distinguished No . 163 S being kept up , for the new W . M . proved himself most capable in every way in what he did . It is worthy of note that every Past Master of the Brownrigg Lodge holds rank in the province . A kind letter was received from Bro . F . West , P . G . M . in charge , regretting that a prior engagement prevented him from being at the installation .

York College . —The quarterly meeting of this body was held in the Masonic Hall , Mint-street , on Saturday , the 20 th ult ., and there was a goodly attendance of brethren , including Fras . T . B . Whytehead , CA . j H . Thompson , Prov . Treas . ; VV . Brown , Prov . Sec j C . D . Hill-Drury , Deputy j VV . N . Cheeseman , Conductor of

Novices ; Allan Haigh , Org . ; C . E . Wright , J . Robinson , H . E . Cousans , J . R . Dore , Col . McGachen , J . Ingleby , W . B . Williamson , and others . In the absence of the Celebrant , Fra . Wilkes , in Scotland , the chair was taken by Fra . F . VV . Thomlinson , who was assisted by Fra . J . Monks , both Past Celebrants . Several of the fratres arrived in Lincoln by an early train , and spent

a few most pleasant hours , under the guidance of Fra . Cousans , in viewing the exquisite details of the cathedral , the Roman remains , and other interesting objects in the ancient city . Smith , 1611 , and R . Patchitt , previously elected , were duly received into the M . C . Fra . J . R . Dore then read a very interesting paper on a newly discovered version of the Tyndale New Testament , which had lately come into his hands . He described its peculiarities and its rarity , and exhibited a specimen page , and it was resolved that Fra . Dore ' s paper should be printed in the transactions ot the

college . The Chief Adept then stated that the grade of Honorary VIII . had been conferred by the Supreme Magus upon Fra . Wm . Brown , who for many years had acted with the greatest efficiency as Secretary of the college , and he then and there handed to Fra . Brown the diploma of his rank . The C . A . also conferred upon the present Celebrant as well as all Past Celebrants the grade of VII ., according :

to the desire of the S . M . He also announced that Fra . Wright , who had visited Ober-Ammergau , would prepare a short descriptive paper of the Passion Play for the next meeting , which would probably be held in Halifax . The M . C . was then dissolved , and the fratres met at tea at the Saracen's Head , a number of the members remaining in Lincoln over Sunday , in order to attend the cathedral services and see more of the antiquities of the city .

Bro . the Earl of Jersey , who has been appointed to succeed Bro . Lord Carrington as Governor of New South Wales , will leave England on Saturday , the 25 th inst . His lordship will be accompanied by the Countess of Jersey and her brother , Captain the Hon . Rupert Leigh , as his Aide-de-Camp .

He explained that whilst Freemasons were superior to anything like sectarianism , they naturally took a pride in such grand national monuments of architectural skill and beauty as their cathedrals were known to be . The motion was

seconded by Bro . T . Cox , P . P . S . G . W ., and carried without discussion . The banquet , which was subsequently served by Bro . Day in the dining hall , was very much appreciated by a large number of guests .

The healths of the newly-appointed Master and his deservedly popular predecessor were enthusiastically honoured , and the evening was spent very harmoniously . and Willis , proceeded with the work set down to be done before the chief ceremony of the day came on . Bros . F . Pennington and Ikin were passed to the F . C . Degree , and Mr . J . H . Strachan and Mr . W . G . Palmer , after being unanimously elected , were initiated into the mysteries of the Craft . So expeditiously was the work got through that the J . W . was called on to make a "declaration , " and after

college . The Chief Adept then stated that the grade of Honorary VIII . had been conferred by the Supreme Magus upon Fra . Wm . Brown , who for many years had acted with the greatest efficiency as Secretary of the college , and he then and there handed to Fra . Brown the diploma of his rank . The C . A . also conferred upon the present Celebrant as well as all Past Celebrants the grade of VII ., according :

to the desire of the S . M . He also announced that Fra . Wright , who had visited Ober-Ammergau , would prepare a short descriptive paper of the Passion Play for the next meeting , which would probably be held in Halifax . The M . C . was then dissolved , and the fratres met at tea at the Saracen's Head , a number of the members remaining in Lincoln over Sunday , in order to attend the cathedral services and see more of the antiquities of the city .
