' 1 he meetings of the Wallington Lodge , No . 1 S 92 , are held on the third Thursday in the months of January , February , March , June , October and November , at the Public Hall , Carshalton , Surrey .

and who are expected home about the 14 th inst . V . W . Bro . H . R . H . the Duke of Connaught , the officer in command of the Foot Guards , left Alexandria on Tuesday for England via Brindisi . Bro . the Earl and Countess of Rosslyn , and Bro . Lord and Lady Charles Beresford were amongst those who assembled at the celebration of the marriage of the

Earl of Durham and Miss Ethel Milner , at St . Peter's , Eaton-square , on Saturday afternoon . The Earl and Countess left for The Durdans , Epsom , Lord Roseberry ' s seat , for the honeymoon . On Friday evening the 27 th ult ., at a largely attended meeting of the House Committee of the Masonic Hall , Liverpool , under the presidency of Bro . R . Robinson ,

it was resolved to proceed with the decoration of the chapter and other rooms , staircases , corridors , and other portions of the building , at a cost of upwards of £ 500 . Cordial thanks were given to Bro . R . Washington , P . P . G . S . D ., for his gift of a very valuable clock , which has been p laced in the entrance hall of the buiiding . A new work is in the press upon the " Disputed

Text" in the First Epistle of St . John , about the three that bear witness in heaven . In the revised version of the English Bible this verse is omitted without explanation or comment , and we understand that the aim of the forthcoming work is to show that this is to decide an old controversy in a new way , without any substantial addition to

the evidence . The work is enriched by a section from an eminent Dignitary of the church who is himself a member of the Committee for the revision of the Bible . It is by the Rev . H . T . A Provincial Grand Lodge of Dorset was held at Sherborne on Wednesday last . A report will appear in our next . The marriage of Bro . the Rev . Thomas Cochrane , Grand Chaplain , M . A ., Rector of Stapleford Abbots , Essex , only son of the Hon . Sir James Cochrane , formerly Chief Justice of Gibraltar , and Miss Julia Walker , younger daughter of the late Rev . William Walker , M . A ., Vicar

of Bardney , was solemnised on I uesday in last week , at St . Mary Abbotts , Kensington . The Rev . St . George Walker , M . A ., Rector of Elveden , and the Rev . Frederick Walker , Vicar of Kingswear , brothers of the bride , performed the ceremony , the bride being given away by her brother , Mr . Henry Walker , of Kilburn .

Bro . Wood , of 112 , Cheapside , has introduced a cigarette , which he calls the " Craft Cigarette , " and has sent us a small packet " for review . Albert Hall Choral Society , with several of our chief artistes in the leading parts , was honoured by the presence of their Royal Highnesses the Prince and Princess of Wales and the Grand Duchess of Mecklenburg-Strelitz . Bro . the Earl and Countess of Limerick are staying at the Royal Pavilion Hotel , Folkestone .

Bro . the Earl of March , M . P ., P . G . S . W ., and Bro . the Earl of Rosslyn , P . G . M . Scotland , were amongst the mourners at the funeral of Lieut .-Col . Balfour ' at Balbirnie , Fifeshire . The deceased is the only officer who has died belonging to the Foot Guards during the Egyptian war . Lieut .-Col . Balfour was wounded in the knee , but died of blood poisoning , after the operation at his sister ' s

house , the Marchioness of Downshire . Lieut . Weyland has also died , and he is the only officer the Household Guards have lost from the war . He was attacked with dysentery at 1 . alta . Bro . Sir Henry T y ler , M . P . ( Harwich ) , and family have been staying at Bri g hton . A most fashionable bazaar has just been held in aid of the funds of the

rebuilding of the Chapel Royal . Arabi ' s counsel are both En glish barristers , and both members of the Masonic Fraternity . Bro . A . M . Broadley is the son of the Rev . I . Broadley , rector of Bradpole , and honorary canon of Salisbury Cathedral . Bro . Broadley was called to the bar at Lincoln ' s Inn , in 1 S 79 , and left soon after for Tunis , where he has established an

extensive and remunerative practice , and is a master of the native language . Bro . Broadley is a Past Master of Lodges 1 S 35 and 1717 , P . D . D . G . M . Malta , P . G . M . M . M . for 'Tunis and Malta , besides being a member and holding office in many of the higher Degrees . As an author he has distinguished himself b y the publication of a work on Tunis , entitled " The last Punic War . " On the Tunisian Onestion

Bro . Broadley maybe regarded as an authority , behaving occupied the position of "Times" correspondent during the French and Tunisian war . In connection with Masonic literature , we may also mention that Bro . Broadley has written a " History of Freemasonry in the District of Malta "—a work of much interest to Masons , not onl y in the Mediterranean , but in England as well . Bro . the Hon .

Mark Napier , the junior counsel , is the third son of Francis Napier , nint ' i Lord Napier and Ettrick . He was called to the bar of the Inner Temple in 1 S 76 . He married the daughter of Lord Ranelagh , by whom he has two sons . His chambers are in Fig Tree-court , Temple . At the Court of Common Council , held on

Thursday last , at the Guildhall , the Lord Mayor remarked that it would be the last occasion on which he should preside , and therefore he took the opportunity of thanking the members for the cordial support he had received from them on all occasions . It was subsequently agreed to present our worthy brother with an illuminated vote of thanks on vellum .

The gold medal and other prices given by the Prince and Princess of Wales for swimming , to the choristers and ex-choristers of the Chapel Royal , Savoy , were competed for on Friday last , at the Charing Cross Floating Bath . They will be presented at the general distribution of prizes next year . Messrs . Bnnsmead and Son having arranged for

a series of concerts in aid of the endowment fund of the Royal College of Music , the first is to take place at St . James's Hall on the 16 th inst ., when Miss Anna Williams , Mdme . Patey , Mr . Sims Reeves , Mr . Herbert Reeves , Signor Runcio , Mr . Barrington Foote , Signor Foli , and the London Vocal Union will sing .

Professor Palmer , of whose untimely death there seems to be little , if any doubt , was a distinguished oriental linguist . He commenced his favourite studies at a very early age , and having matriculated at Cambridge , was electeda Fellow of St . John ' s College asa reward for his great oriental attainments . He had several times previously visited

the Syrian Desert , and his command of the Arab language , as well as of the people's manners , was such that he might easily have passed himself off as one of them . Loot seems to have been at the bottom of the cause to which he has fallen a victim .
