Sir Francis Burdett Lodge , No . 1503 . The installation meeting of this Iodge was held at the Albany Hotel , Twickenham , on the ioth ult . Among those present were Bros . W . Fisher , P . M ., P . was taken on behalf of Bro . F . I . Bonney , J . W . 1157 , as a joining member , lhe report of the Audit Committee was received and adopted . It was proposed by the Chaplain , aud seconded by the Treasurer , " That this lodge while acceding to Bto . Pist Master Taylor ' s request to be placed on the non-dining or country list , much regrets ths loss of Bro . Taylor ' s full co-operation and desires to tender him its thanks for the many services he has so ably rendered it in various capacities throughout the long period of upwards of 20 years of his active membership ; and that this resolution be entered on

the minutes and a copy of it be sent to Bro . Taylor . " The resolution was unanim ously carried . Bro . W . Fisher then ably installed Bro . A . B . Brown , S . W ., Master elect , as W . M ., who appointed and invested the following officers : Bros . Dr . Hinton , S . W . ; H . Bright , J . W . ; Rev . S . T . H . Saunders , P . M ., Chap . ; J . T . Briggs , P . M ., Treas ; Major T . C . Walls , P . M ., Sec ; E . Tompsett , S . D . ; F . F . Bonney , J . D . ; and G . Harrison , Tyler . A vote of thanks was passed to the Installing Master . The VV . M . was elected as an additional Steward to represent the lodge at the Centenary Festival of the R . M . I , for Boys in 1 S 9 S .

Apologies for non-attendance were received from Bros . R . H . Thrupp , D . P . G . M . ; W . Taylor , P . M . ; A . Macchi , P . M . ; A . Toulmin , jun ., P . M . ; and others . The lodge was then closed . A banquet followed . Upon the removal of the cloth the customary toasts received full justice . Bro . H . H . Room made an eloquent speech in responding to the toast of " The Provincial Grand Officers . " " The Health of the Joining Member " was given in happy terms by the Worshipful Master .

Bro . Bonney , in reply , made an interesting statement that his grandfather had been the legal adviser and shared the captivity of the famous Sir Francis Burdett , who was imprisoned in Ihe Tower . He was particularly grateful to his proposer and seconder and to the brethren of No . 1503 in receiving him as a member , and he should look forward to the time when by their suffrages he might hold the position of W . M . in a lodge bearing so distinguished a name .

Bro . W . Fisher responded on behalf of " The Past Masters , " and thanked the brethren for the vote of thanks they had passed to him that day as Installing Officer . He was sorry that Bro . Macchi , I . P . M ., had not been present . The W . M ., in giving the toast of "The Treasurer and Secretary , " eulogised thc services of Bro . Briggs , whose care of their funds and general zeal had been so beneficial to the lodge . Bro . Briggs , P . M ., replied .

The toast of " The Oflicers , " coupled with the names of Bros . Dr . Hinton and Bright , terminated the proceedings .

Windermere Lodge , No . 2217 . The brethren of this lodge celebrated the Festival of St . John at the Masonic Hall , Old-road , Windermere , on Thursday , the nth ultimo , when Bro . Joseph G . Simpkin , P . P . G . Std . Br . Leicestershire and Rutland , was installed W . M . for the ensuing year . The ceremony of installation was impressively performed by Bro . Winder , the retiring W . M ., who was ably assisted by Bro . Tolson , P . S . G . D . Bro . Simpkin invested his officers as follows : Bros . J . Cowperthwaite , S . W . ; J . C . Harrison , J . W . ; J , Theobald , Treas . ; L . G . Thompson , Sec ; T . Crosthwaite , S . D . ; T . M . Holmes ,

The lodge was honoured with the presence of Bro . Col . F . R . Sewell , J . P ., Deputy P . G . M . ; and the Board of Installed Masters included , beside those already mentioned , Bros . Hunter , Horrax , Bradley , Brickells , and Buckley . Among the visitors were Bros . Buzzard , Musgrove , Rigg , and De Rome . The banquet was subsequently served in splendid style by Bro . Raine at the Windermere Assembly Rooms , after which the customary toasts were given , several with musical honours .

Scots Lodge , No . 2319 . The Scots Lodge celebrated St . Andrew's Night at the ordinary November meeting of the lodge at the Holborn Restaurant , on the 25 th ult . Bro . Dr . D . M . Forbes , W . M ., presided , and among other brethren present were Bros . James Thomson , I . P . M . ; D . Robertson Duncan , S . W . ; E . Johnston Gordon , P . M ., P . Z ., J . W . ; D . Angus Ross , Sec ; D . F . Gellion , P . M ., Trustee ; Wm . Craig , S . D . ; Ashley O . P . Gordon ,

J . D . ; T . Sandilands , I . G . ; J . D . Balfour , A . D . C . ; J . Whitehead , I . P . M . ; P . Black , T . Charteris , John Macgregor , John Plenderleith , P . S . Mallory , A . Davidson Arnott , Org . ; besides Sergt . Peter Maclean , Piper ; and John Latta , Tyler . The lodge having been opened , Mr . William Bain was initiated , and afterwards arrangements were made for the ladies' banquet , concert , and ball during the ensuing

winter . An excellent banquet , as usual , followed the working of the lodge , and the customary toasts were proposed and honoured , some very gocd singing interspersing the various speeches . Bro . Dr . D . M . Forbes , W . M ., in proposing "The M . W . the Pro G . M ., " said he was sorry , as all the brethren were , to know that the Earl of Lathom had sustained in thc last few days a most severe bereavement in the sudden death , through an accident ,

of the Countess of Lathom . His lordship had the sympathy of every Freemason , because they knew there was no better Mason than he . The late Countess was a Freemason in heart , and took a great interest in the Masonic Charities . Both she and her husband supported those Charities immensely , and were well known to all those who were interested in the success of those Institutions . All Freemasons sympathised with Lord Lathom and family in their sad allliction , and hoped that the G . A . O . T . U . would biing them consolation and comfort in their hour of trial .

Bro . James Thomson , I . P . M ., in proposing "The VV . M ., Bro . Dr . Forbes , " said the brethren had all been delighted with the style in which the W . M . had performed his first initiation ceremony in the Scots Lodge that evening . They had further great pleasure at the delightful meeting they were having in'the new domicile of the lodge at the Holborn Restaurant , and they had to thank Dr . Forbes for his persistency in pressing the remeval fiom the Scottish Corpora'ion Hall .

Bro . Dr . Forbes , W . M ., responding , said this was the second meeting the lodge had had at the Holborn Restaurant . They could ask the visitors if they had enjoyed themselves at Ihe St . Andrew ' s banquet , as they sta ' ed most fl . tteringly that they had at the installation meeting . He , himself conceived it a great improvement . He could accure the brethren lhat whatever he put his hand to he carried out . He was one of those Scotchmen who , when they took up a subject , stuck to it like grim death .

Bro . Dr . Fcibes , VV . M ., ntxtprrpesed "'Ihe I . P . M ., Bro . James Thomson , " a most rnergetic P . M ., ro tne more erergelic , from lhe moment he was a founder . Bio . Ifcmscn wtuld always have the keenest interest in the Scots Lodge , and in its taking up its proper position . Bro . Edmeston , at the last banquet , said it was not to tie ciedit of Scotchmen that they were not all members of the Scots Lodge . Well , he thought the ledge ought to be more numerous than it was , although Ihe biethren ought to be thankful for the success it had had . It was owing to Ihe P . Ms , and other brethren that that success had been achieved . To no one was it more due than to thc worthy

I . P . M . Bro . James Thomson , I . P . M ., in reply , observed that that was the first time the toast had been proposed when his name was not connected with that of some other brother . He took it as a great and deep mark of Ihe brethren ' s respect ; but he did not know why he should feel he had lo call up all his powers , lie supposed it was because the brethien had had such a good dinner . There was nothing to be said as I . P . M . ol lhat lodge for thc way it had gone on in the past ; they were all delighled to see its success , and if he could be of any use in infusing life into it he would do it . Bro . Dr . Forbes , W . M ., proposed "The Initiate , " and said he was glad to see Bro . Bain was a native of his own county—Caithness—and that he was his ( Dr Forties ' s )

first initiate in that lodge . There were good men from the north always , the best men , as well as good fellowship in the noith . They had shown that to the world . The Gordon Highlanders had shown what they were worth . He felt that Lord Wolseley , who was trying to come down south to Liverpool and London to get them to join the Army , should go to Glencce in thc Highland glens . Hc hoped Bro . Bain would attend the lodge of instruction .

Bro . W . Bain , in response , said from his knowledge of several Masons who were men of probity and wilh whom he longed to have a closer intimacy , hc became a Mason . Now that he had joined them his opinions of them had increased . He hoped he would progress until he reached the Master ' s chair . Bros . D . F . Gellion , and Joseph Whitehead , P . M ., replied to the toast of '' The Past Masters . " Bros . Corbie Smith , Kimpton , and Mackenzie acknowledged the toast of "The Visitors . "

The toast of " The Treasurer , the Secretary , and the Oificersof the Lodge" was responded to by Bros . D . A . Ross , Sec . ; D . R . Duncan , S . D . ; E . Johnston Gordon , J . W . ; and A . Davidson Arnott , Org . Bro . Latta gave the Tyler ' s toast . The proceedings terminated with the sinking of" Auld Lang Syne " and the dancing of a Scotch reel by Bros . Gellion , P . M ., andVV . Craig , S . D .

Acacia Lodge , No . 2321 . The regular monthly meeting of this lodge was held at the Masonic Hall , Rawsonsquare , Bradford , on Thursday , the 4 th ult ., Bro . John Morton , J . P ., W . M ., presided , and was supported by Bros . S . A . Bailey , I . P . M . ; J . W . Bland , S . W . ; J . A . Drake , I . W . ; F . Betteridge , B . A ., Chap . ; C . H . Ellis , P . M ., Treas . ; J . T . Last , P . M ., P . P . G . R ., Sec . ; A . Stephenson , P . M ., P . P . G . D . ; T . P . Sykes , S . D . ; VV . Docksey , J . D . ; J . S . Hedley , I . G . ; A . The minutes of the previous lodge were read and confirmed , several resolutions affecting the well-being of the lodge were passed , and after "Hearty good wishes " the lodge was closed . Alter refreshment the usual loyal and Masonic toasts were duly acknowledged , and the rest of the evening was devoted to arrangements for the members annual ball .

Bushey Hall Lodge , No . 2323 . The installation meeting was held at The Hall , Bushey , on Saturday , the Oth ult ., when Bro . James Beresford Ryley , M . D ., P . P . G . D . Middx ., was duly installed as W . M . for the ensuing year . The outgoing Master , Bro . A . R . Bilby , acted as Installing Master , and Bro . C . E . Birch as D . C . The Prov . G . M ., Bro . T . F . Halsey , M . P .,

Albert Victor Lodge , No . 2328 . The annual installation meeting of this lodge was held on Tuesday , the 23 rd ult ., at the Freemasons'Hall , St . Saviourgate , York , when Bro . [ . Melrose , J . P ., was installed in the chair . There was a full attendance of members of the lodge , including the outgoing VV . M ., Bro . C . Turner , and his officers . Lodge having been opened , the ceremony of installation was performed by Bro . T . B . Whytehead , P . M ., P . G . S . B ., who was assisted by Uro . the Dean of York , P . G . C , and Bros . H . L . Swift , F . Shann , J . P . Carr , and the Rev . C . E . Wright , Past Masters .

winter . An excellent banquet , as usual , followed the working of the lodge , and the customary toasts were proposed and honoured , some very gocd singing interspersing the various speeches . Bro . Dr . D . M . Forbes , W . M ., in proposing "The M . W . the Pro G . M ., " said he was sorry , as all the brethren were , to know that the Earl of Lathom had sustained in thc last few days a most severe bereavement in the sudden death , through an accident ,

of the Countess of Lathom . His lordship had the sympathy of every Freemason , because they knew there was no better Mason than he . The late Countess was a Freemason in heart , and took a great interest in the Masonic Charities . Both she and her husband supported those Charities immensely , and were well known to all those who were interested in the success of those Institutions . All Freemasons sympathised with Lord Lathom and family in their sad allliction , and hoped that the G . A . O . T . U . would biing them consolation and comfort in their hour of trial .

Bro . James Thomson , I . P . M ., in proposing "The VV . M ., Bro . Dr . Forbes , " said the brethren had all been delighted with the style in which the W . M . had performed his first initiation ceremony in the Scots Lodge that evening . They had further great pleasure at the delightful meeting they were having in'the new domicile of the lodge at the Holborn Restaurant , and they had to thank Dr . Forbes for his persistency in pressing the remeval fiom the Scottish Corpora'ion Hall .

Bro . Dr . Forbes , W . M ., responding , said this was the second meeting the lodge had had at the Holborn Restaurant . They could ask the visitors if they had enjoyed themselves at Ihe St . Andrew ' s banquet , as they sta ' ed most fl . tteringly that they had at the installation meeting . He , himself conceived it a great improvement . He could accure the brethren lhat whatever he put his hand to he carried out . He was one of those Scotchmen who , when they took up a subject , stuck to it like grim death .

Ifcmscn wtuld always have the keenest interest in the Scots Lodge , and in its taking up its proper position . Bro . Edmeston , at the last banquet , said it was not to tie ciedit of Scotchmen that they were not all members of the Scots Lodge . Well , he thought the ledge ought to be more numerous than it was , although Ihe biethren ought to be thankful for the success it had had . It was owing to Ihe P . Ms , and other brethren that that success had been achieved . To no one was it more due than to thc worthy

I . P . M . Bro . James Thomson , I . P . M ., in reply , observed that that was the first time the toast had been proposed when his name was not connected with that of some other brother . He took it as a great and deep mark of Ihe brethren ' s respect ; but he did not know why he should feel he had lo call up all his powers , lie supposed it was because the brethien had had such a good dinner . There was nothing to be said as I . P . M . ol lhat lodge for thc way it had gone on in the past ; they were all delighled to see its success , and if he could be of any use in infusing life into it he would do it . Bro . Dr . Forbes , W . M ., proposed "The Initiate , " and said he was glad to see Bro . Bain was a native of his own county—Caithness—and that he was his ( Dr Forties ' s )

The Gordon Highlanders had shown what they were worth . He felt that Lord Wolseley , who was trying to come down south to Liverpool and London to get them to join the Army , should go to Glencce in thc Highland glens . Hc hoped Bro . Bain would attend the lodge of instruction .

Bro . W . Bain , in response , said from his knowledge of several Masons who were men of probity and wilh whom he longed to have a closer intimacy , hc became a Mason . Now that he had joined them his opinions of them had increased . He hoped he would progress until he reached the Master ' s chair . Bros . D . F . Gellion , and Joseph Whitehead , P .
