Obituary.

ever since thc enrolment of his regiment in 1 S 59 , and his military service , like all Yrt ? , other work , was painstaking and thorough . As a member o ^ our Ctaft , his zeal knew no bounds ; his purse , his thoughts , and his services were always ready for anything Masonic . He was tho heart and soul of his mother lodge—Menturia , No . 41 S—in addition to being a member of the Etruscan and St . Michael's

Lodges , of the Staffordshire Knot Royal Arch Chapter , and Gough Mark Lodge , and his loss is deeply mourned by all the members thereof . The brethren of Menturia especially , with whom for 2 i _ years he has been in the closest contact , lament his decease with unfeigned regret . A younger brother of that lodge writes of him as follows :

" 1 he hearty greeting in that well known voice which he was wont to give to us younger brethren in lodge was a testimony of the reality of his Masonic principles , while in private life his geniality and jolly heartedness wero traits only too seldom found . A cheering light has been extinguished by his death , and Hanley , his lodge , and a host of friends are the poorer . " Whilst his twin brother in Masonry and close friend of 40 yeirs standing inscribed on his memorial card the affectionate record that he was "A just and iiprighf man . "

BRO . ALDERMAN SIR GEORGE TYLER , BART . It is wilh sincere regret we announce the death , on Friday , the 26 th ultimo , of Bro . Alderman Sir George Tyler , Bart ., at the comparatively early age of 62 years . The deceased was elected a member of the Court of Common Council for

the Ward of Queenhithe , and 10 years later was chosen to represent it on the Court of Aldermen . In 1891 he served the office of Sheriff , and in 1893 was elected Lord Mayor , receiving the honour of a baronetcy on the occasion of the Tower Bridge being opened by His Royal Hignness the Prince of Wales on behalf of her Majesty the Queen . He also waited on the Queen at Windsor

Castle and presented , on behalf of the Corporation , an address of congratulation on the birth of a young Prince in direct succession to the Throne—Prince Edward , son of the Duke and Duchess of York . Since vacating the chair of Chief Magistrate of the City , Sir George Tyler had been in failing health , and would have resigned his gown but for the desire of his colleagues . A few months since he recovered so far as to be able to attend the Court of Common Council

and discharge his duties as magistrate . But the recovery was only temporary ; his illness returned and took a turn for the worse , his death occurring peacefully on the aforementioned date . Sir George was a Past Master of the Stationers ' and the Court of the Gold and Silver Wyre Drawers' Companies , but had taken no very prominent part in Masonry . His funeral took place at Norwood Cemetery on Wednesday , his only son , Mr . Frederick Charles Tyler , who succeeds to the

baronetcy , being the chief mourner . Bro . the Lord Mayor was represented b y the whole of his official household , and among those present were Alderman Sir Stuart Knill Bro . Alderman Sir J . Voce Moore , Bro . Alderman Treloar , Mr . Alderman Truscott , Mr . John Knill , Mr . Walter H . Harris , C . M . G ., Mister of the Loriners' Company ; Mr . W . R . Stephens , Master of the Stationers' Company ;

Bro . Under-Sheriff Halse , Mr . W . H . Collingrulsjc , and a deputation from Queenhithe Ward , consisting of Mr . J . N . Pimm , Colonel Venables , Mr . VV . R . * Pryke Mr . G . T . Skilbeck , and Mr . Frederick Hill , the Ward Clerk . The burial service was read by the Rev . R . 15 . Ransford , Vicar of St . Paul ' s , Upper Nnrivoo tl , who was chaplain to the deceased Alderman during his Mayoralty .

BRO . E . BETTY . At the funeral of Bro . E . Belty , of the Exeter tnn , Dawlish , on Thursday , the 25 th ult ., blinds were drawn along the route , and members of the Salem ( Craft ) Lodge , No . 1443 , and of Teignmouth and Dawlish Lodges of Buffaloes attended .

The chief mourners were the widow and Mrs . Maddock ( aunt of the deceased ) R . Betty , T . C . Betty , J . Q . and J . Betty ( brothers ) , Stanley and John ( nephews ) ' , Mrs .
