The rule at present in use—providing that a member shall be eligible for this ballot who attends 20 times during the preceding 13 months , dating back from the day the £$ 5 s . is completed—on being put to the vote , the proposed alteration was duly carried ; and Bro . Gardner thereupon gave notice of motion to rescind that alteration and propose another alteration in its stead . The lodge was then closed .

STAR CHAPTER ( No . 1275 ) . —The regular convocation of this chapter was held at the Ship , Greenwich , on Tuesday , the 25 th ult . Comps . Grummant , M . E . Z . ; Hilton , H . ; and Elliot , J ., occupied their respective chairs , and were supported by the other officers and companions of the chapter as well as several visitors . The

companions who had not passed the three Principals' chairs withdrew , and Comp . Grummant installed his successor , Comp . Hilton , into the chair of Z . in an excellent style . Comp . Hilton then proclaimed Comps . Elliot , as H . ; and Addington , as J . The other officers being as follows : Comps . Williams , P . Z ., Treas . ; Capt . C . W . Williams , S . E . ; North , S . N . ; Stone , P . S . ; Henton , ist A . S . ;

and Benedetti , 2 nd A . S . The other companions were then admitted and saluted the three newly-installed Principals . The first three being present were duly exalted into the mysteries of Royal Arch Masonry in a most impressive manner , the

whole of the officers rendering their work in a manner which reflected great credit upon themselves as well as upon the chapter . Comp . Hilton , M . E . Z ., then presented Comp . Grummant with a P . Z . jewel , in doing which he proposed a vote of thanks to Comp . Grummant for the excellent way in which he had installed his successor into the chair of Z . ; this was duly seconded , and Comp .

Grummant replied , thanking the companions for the jewel and the vote of thanks which took him quite by surprise . He said he should always be ready to do his utmost for the good of the chapter . The M . E . Z . then proposed another candidate for exaltation . Business being ended , the chapter was closed . After the banquet Comp . Hilton , M . E . Z ., proposed "The

Health of the Queen , " in doing which he said that Royal Arch Masons were always loyal , but they had particular Pleasure in drinking the health of her Majesty in this her Jubilee year . Then followed the toast of "H . R . H . the Prince of Wales , Grand Z ., and the rest of the Grand Officers , Present and Past , " which were enthusiastically received .

Comp . Cowley , P . Z ., in proposing "The Health of Comps . Hilton , M . E . Z . ; Grummant , P . Z ., acting H . ; and Addington , J . ; " said that he was charmed with the way in which the M . E . Z . had performed his work during the evening . It could not have been done better had he done it hundreds of times before to perfect himself .

In reply Comp . Hilton said that he had worked hard under Cnmp . Bumstead , P . Z ., at the chapter of improvement , and if he had given the companions pleasure he was very pleased . He should always do his best to maintain the good name of the chapter . Comps . Grummant , acting H ., and Addington , J ., also replied thanking the

companions . In proposing the "Exaltees" the M . E . Z . said that in a sense this was the most important toast of the evening , for no society could flourish without the introduction of new blood . He hoped he should see each of the exaltees Comps . Fleck , Meierhoff , and Woods , reflect honour

upon R . A . Masonry , and fill the chair he was now occupying . Each of the exaltees replied , and they were unanimously of opinion that to be a R . A . Mason was a very grand thing . They had been very deeply impressed by the ceremony they had passed through that evening , and hoped that they might live to fulfil the hopes of their

M . E . Z . Next followed the toast of "The Visitors , for whom Comps . Vincent and Powell replied . They had been very glad to be present that evening , for if anyone wanted to see good work they should come to the Star Chapter . They had been very well received and he heartily thanked the companions for their hospitality .

The M . E . Z . then proposed the toast of "The Past Principals , " coupling with it the names of Comps . Cowley , Grummant , and Bumstead . Comp . Cowley , P . Z ., in reply , said that he had received great pleasure that evening in seeing Comp . Hilton in the chair of Z . The P . Z . ' s were always ready to do all they could for the chapter . Comp . Grummant , P . Z ., said that he was pleased to be numbered

among the P . Z . ' s of the Star Chapter . He was glad he had given the companions satisfaction in his year of office just past . Comp . Bumstead said that although not a P . Z . of the chapter he was very proud of being an hon . member . He was always glad to welcome and help any companion either at the Pythagorean Chapter of Improvement , Portland Hotel , London-street , Greenwich , or at any other

place . He had been much encouraged by the careful attention of the present officers of the chapter to his instructions , and was pleased to leave Comp . Grummant that evening to do the work of installing his successor without aid from himself . The M . E . Z . spoke in very flattering terms of the way in which the other officers had done their work , particularly

commending Comps . Williams , S . E . ; North , S . N . ; and Stone , P . S ., and expressed great pleasure in proposing their healths . The Treasurer and Scribe E . having been forced to leave previously , Comps . North , S . N . ; Stone , P . S . ; and Benedetti , 2 nd A . S ., replied , thanking the M . E . Z . and companions . They were always glad to do their very best for

the chapter , and were glad to have given satisfaction . The Janitor's toast brought a very pleasant evening to a conclusion . During the evening the companions were very much enchanted by an excellent selection of music , which was carried out under the direction of Bro . Wakefield Reed , who was assisted by Misses F . Stewards to the Masonic Benevolent Institutions , the Treasurer gave notice that he should propose that five guineas be taken from the funds of the chapter and placed on each companion's list . Comp . J . C . Reynolds having zealously and faithfully filled the office of Treasurer since its consecration , the M . E . Z . gave notice that he should propose that a suitable jewel be presented to Comp . Reynolds as a token of the regard with which he is held by the

companions . Two brethren of the Duke of Albany Lodge were proposed for exaltation at the next convocation . All Royal Arch business beingended , the chapter was closed in due form . Ciemow for the admirable manner which he catered for the companions ; the service also was excellent .
