M . then proposed the usual loyal and Masonic toasts in a very haopy manner , the toasts being heartily drunk by the

brethren . Ihe I . P . M ., Bro . Harry Kedgley , then said all the brethren knew why he held the gavel in his hand . It was always the custom for the I . P . M . to propose "The Health of the W . M . " To all it was a most pleasing toast , and to him ( the I . P . M . ) he could say on no occasion in the lodge had it given him greater pleasure to propose a

toast than that of the one he was doing . Their W . M . was respected by all , and the manner in which he had performed the duties of the chair that evening proved that he would pass out of it with great credit to himself , and the Covent Garden Lodge . He took a great interest in his work , and would give satisfaction to the lodges . He would ask the brethren to drink the health of the W . M . in a

bumper , and wish him every success . The Worshipful Master , replying , said he thanked Bro . Harry Kedgley , their I . P . M ., for the kind and flattering way in which he had proposed his health , and all present for the hearty manner in which it had been drunk . The kind allusions to the way in which he had occupied the chair that evening gave him great encouragement , and he could

assure the brethren he would do all the work to the best of his ability , and give the brethren of the lodge every satisladion . He started with a good heart , and would go through his work . The VVorshipful Master in proposing " The Health of Visitors , " said it was one of the principal toasts of the evening , and that evening it gave him an especial amount ot pleasure . He could see many happy faces around him ,

and he could assure them a happy reception would always be given to them whenever they came . He trusted they had all spent a pleasant evening . Bro . VV . C . Smith , VV . M . 1563 , in responding , said he did so with a great deal of pleasure , and thanked the W . M . for the kind manner in which he had proposed the toast of the visitors . He congratulated the W . M . on the

way in which he had performed the work that evening . He ( Bro . W . C . Smith ) had been associated with the Covent Garden Lodge of Instruction for some time , and the attention the W . M . had given them there convinced him that the Covent Garden Lodge had a Master who would do his work to the best of his ability , and give the lodge satisfaction . He was proud of him as one of the brethren attending the

lodge of instruction , for he was a worthy Mason , and a gentleman . The officers took a great interest in the lodge , and would , with the W . M ., advance the interests of the lodge . Bro . Kirkaldy , P . M . 1321 , said that after what had fallen from the Ups of their worthy Bro . W . C . Smith he could not say much . He thanked the brethren of the

Iodge for a very happy evening . He was sure the visitors had enjoyed themselves . The Covent Garden Lodge always gave them a hearty welcome . He wished the VV . M . a happy year of office . Bro . H . W . Eastwood , 733 , said he could not find words sufficient to thank the lodge for the pleasant evening he had had . It would always bring to his mind happy recollections of his visit to the Covent Garden Lodge ; and he wished the lodge every success .

The Worshipful Master then proposed " The Health of the Secretary and P . M . ' s , " and said in putting them altogether he hardly knew what to say . They were all good Masons , and worked well for the interest of the lodge . Bro . Edward Jacobs , P . M ., their worthy Treasurer , was not with them that evening . Bro . VV . Bourne , P . M ., their Secretarv , all knew well . He was a good quill driver , and

all the members of the lodge would agree with him on that point , as they received their summonses most punctually . He attended well to his duties . The office of Wine Steward was carried out well by their P . M ., Bro . John Jacobs . Bro . Kedgley , P . M ., is looking forward to his turn to do the duties , having had such good examples set him by Bros . Simon Jacobs , P . M ., and G . Coleman ,

P . M . He would call upon Bros . Bourne and H . Kedgley to reply . Bro . Bourne , P . M . and Sec , said as one of the oldest P . M . ' s present , he thanked them all for the manner in which the healths of the P . M . 's had been drunk , and for the kind remarks of their W . M . He could assure them one and all took the greatest interest in the lodge , and

always had the welfare of the lodge at heart . As to himself , he had received the greatest kindness from all ; and so long as he had the confidence of the brethren nothing should be wanting on his part to carry out his duties to their satisfaction , which he hoped to do in the future as he had done in the past . Bro . H . Kedgley , I . P . M ., said he would only detain

them a few seconds . It was a great pleasure to him to be beside their worthy VV . M . as an I . P . M . They had both climbed from the bottom of the ladder to their present positions , and he could assure the brethren he would give all the assistance he could to the lodge as long as he had

health and strength . The remark , when his turn came to be Wine Steward , he would bear in mind . It was an office now always held by a P . M ., but it did not matter to him what office he undertook—he would endeavour to give every satisfaction to the brethren . Their worthy P . M ., Bro . John Jacobs , was a capital Wine Steward . He thanked them

all for the hearty manner in which the health of thc P . M . 's had been drunk . The VVorshipful Master , in proposing " The Health of the Officers , " said it was one that brought the labours of the evening ' s performance almost to a close . In Bro . B . Solomon he had a capital S . VV . He was doing his best and attending well to his duties , and was coming forward .

Bro . G . Reynolds , J . VV ., was another enterprising young man . He was always doing something for the benefit of the lodge and of Masonry . No matter vvhat duties you called upon him to do , he was always willing to do them to the best of his ability . In all the other officers he was well supported , and he thanked them one and all for the attention they gave to their respective duties .

Bro . B . Solomon , S . W ., in reply , said that it gave him great pleasure to rise and thank the W . M . for the kind remarks as to his officers . He would endeavour ro follow the good example set by the W . M ., and follow in his footsteps , and he could assure the brethren of the lodge when he once got into the chair he would stick to his work . Bro . G ' . Reynolds . J . W ., thanked the W . M . for his kind

and Watering remarks , and said he trusted he should do his duties , not only to the satisfaction of the VV . M ., but to the lodge also . The VV . M . had that very evening astonished the brethren , and his working was a proof of what perseverance would do . The VV . M . had just now entrusted a secret to him , vvhich he hoped the brethren would not divulge to the W . M ., and the secret was , there would be

no banquet at their next meeting , but that the Covent Garden Lodge of Instruction would hold their annual supper ( Tuesday , the Sth of March ) , instead . He should look fonvard to their worthy VV . M . being supported by six times the number of brethren present here —( A Voice , Ten times)—and that all would assist to make it a jolly and pleasant evening . In foreign parts he himself should look

forward to that evening with much pleasure . Bro . G . Ralph thanked the VV . M . for his kind remarks on behalf of the rest of the officers . The Tyler ' s toast brought the pleasant evening to a close , to which Bros . C . Ralph Kirkaldy , H . Wharton , H . Kidgley , Roots , and others had added much by their vocal abilities .

lodge of instruction , for he was a worthy Mason , and a gentleman .
