Bro . Withell presided , supported by his officers and the oflicers of other lodges present at the installation . In addition , the following ofiicers also joined : Bros . A . Latimer , 189 , P . P . J . G . D . ; and J . S . Sloggett , 2025 . The usual Masonic toasts were given and replied to . A capital concert of vocal and instrumental music was

furnished by brethren between the addresses , and a very p leasant evening passed . Among the entertainers were Bros . C . G . Haly , J . P . Keys , A . Debnam , R . Brickvvood , A . Honey , C . George , and C . F . Hocking . Bro . Debnam sang some humorous melodies , which were warmly applauded ; Bro . Latimer acted as the accompanist on the

p iano during the evening . Bro . Elford gave solos on the cornet , including the "Lost Chord" and the "Better Land . " During the evening the following address , handsomely illuminated , framed , and glazed , was presented to the Secretary of the lodge : " This address , accompanied with

a Life Governorship in the Devon Masonic Educational Fund , and a signet ring , is presented to Worshipful Brother James Gifford , P . M ., by the officers and members of the Lodge of St . George , No . 2025 , as a tribute of respect and esteem , and of their appreciation for the self-denying and indefatigable manner in which he has discharged the

duties of Secretary for the lodge since its consecration in April , 1 SS 4 . The Lodge of St . George , intended as a temperance lodge , to make a new departure in the history of the Craft in the Province of Devon , has , both in its growth and influence , largely exceeded the expectations of its founders , and the success it has realised is in a great

measure attributable to the energy and courtesy of our worshipful brother as Secretary , who has attended each meeting during the formation and since the consecration of the lodge . Bro . Griffin , in giving the toast "The Masonic Charij'es , noticed the great progress already made by the wage in connection with those Institutions . It had two V ice-Presidents , three Life Governors in the Devon Educational Fund , 21 votes for 20 years , and altogether 84 votes ? ™ on its brethren . George , and C . F . Hocking . Bro . Debnam sang some humorous melodies , which were warmly applauded ; Bro . Latimer acted as the accompanist on the

p iano during the evening . Bro . Elford gave solos on the cornet , including the "Lost Chord" and the "Better Land . " During the evening the following address , handsomely illuminated , framed , and glazed , was presented to the Secretary of the lodge : " This address , accompanied with

a Life Governorship in the Devon Masonic Educational Fund , and a signet ring , is presented to Worshipful Brother James Gifford , P . M ., by the officers and members of the Lodge of St . George , No . 2025 , as a tribute of respect and esteem , and of their appreciation for the self-denying and indefatigable manner in which he has discharged the

duties of Secretary for the lodge since its consecration in April , 1 SS 4 . The Lodge of St . George , intended as a temperance lodge , to make a new departure in the history of the Craft in the Province of Devon , has , both in its growth and influence , largely exceeded the expectations of its founders , and the success it has realised is in a great

lodge was opened in the ijecond Degree , and Bro . L . Woods offering himself as a candidate for raising , was examined and entrusted . The lodge was opened in the Third Degree , and the ceremony of raising was rehearsed in the excellent manner for which the worthy Preceptor is so celebrated . The ceremony of installation was also rehearsed by the W . M ., Bro . VV . C . Williams acting as W . M . elect . The officers wcre appointed , and Bro . J . Collings gave the concluding addresses in a most impressive style . Bro . J . W . Morley was elected W . M . for the next meeting .

Lodge was opened in the First Degree , and the minutes of the last meeting were read and confirmed . Lodge was opened in the Second and Third Degrees , and resumed to the First Degree . Bro . Rowley offering himself as a candidate for initiation , the VV . M . rehearsed that ceremony . Bro . J . Sims , P . M . 834 , with thc assistance of the brethren , then worked the 2 nd and 3 rd Sections of the Lecture . The VV . M , rose for the first time , and the dues were collected . The VV . was unanimously elected VV . M . for the next meeting . The VV . M . rose for the third time , and , after " Heirty good wishes , " given and acknowledged , the lodge was closed . A meeting of the Benevolent Association was then held , and Bros . Speigel and Clark obtained the ballots . The First Lecture will be worked in this lodge on the nth inst ., and the Second and Third Lectures on the 19 th inst . The annual supper will be held on the 23 rd inst .

Paramour and Stephens be elected members—carried . It was also proposed by Bro . Potter ,

and seconded by Bro . Mears . that a vote of thanks be recorded on the minutes to Bro . Snowden for his kindness in giving the printing—circulars , menus , cards , & c—for the lodge—carried unanimously . It was resolved that a vote of thanks be recorded to the Preceptor for the way in which he catered for the suppercarried . Bro . Light returned thanks . Woods , Dr . Makeham , Crook , and Patrick , Janitor . Comp . Tuck was installed in a very impressive and accurate manner into the chair of Third Principal by Comp . Grummant , P . Z ., who , if possible , excelled himself in the rendering of the beautiful ritual .

Other business having been concluded , the convocation was closed . After partaking of a splendid repast , the M . E . Z . proposed Ihe toast of "The Queen , coupled with R . A . Masonry . " He alluded in appropriate terms to her Majesty ' s journey to Berlin , and the sad cause of the same , pointing out the kindness of heart always shown by the Queen .
