Mackail , I . P . M . Wilberforce ; and VV . Richardson , S . W . 294 . " Hearty good wishes" having been expressed , the lodge was then closed , and the brethren adjourned to celebrate the festival of St . John with a banquet at Bro . John Holtby ' s , Buck Hotel .
After the banquet the VV . M . proposed the preliminary toasts , which were received and drunk with Masonic enthusiasm . In proposing "The Health of the W . M ., " Bro . M . C . Peck , Pro . G . Sec , spoke in high terms of the manner in which he had performed the various duties since his connection with the lodge , of his regular attendance at all
meetings , and his uniform kindness and affability . The toast was heartily drunk , and after the brethren had sang " For he ' s a jolly good fellow , " Bro . Peck , P . M ., sang an original song called "The VVorshipful Master " ( with chorus ) . The W . M ., in reply , said that far more had been said by Bro . Peck concerning himself than he deserved ; at the
same time he should try and justify the statements by doing his utmost to fulfil the duties of W . M . to the best of his ability , as he had hitherto endeavoured to do in every office to which he had been appointed . He assured them he felt proud of his position , especially as he had been unanimously elected ; and if the brethren continued to give him the same support he did not think they would
have cause to regret having placed him in his honourable and responsible position . In conclusion , Bro . Watson thanked Bro . Peck most cordially for his kind remarks , and the brethren for so heartily drinking his health . He then called upon Bro . Ansdell to propose "The Health of the I . P . M ., Bro . J . Dunn , " who had twice been elected W . M . Bro . Ansdell said no brother could have taken a keener
interest in his lodge or have been more zealous towards its interests than Bro . Dunn , and he ( Bro . Ansdell ) felt great pleasure in presenting him , on behalf of the members , with a P . M . ' s jewel to mark the esteem and respect in which he was held , and for the efficient manner in which he has performed his duties . Bro . Dunn , in returning thanks for this mark of the
brethren's esteem , said he should prize it above all the jewels he possessed , and although he had been praised for doing his work well , still he felt he had not done half as much as he should have liked . The presentation had come on him quite unexpectedly , and would always remind him of the very pleasant year he had spent with the brethren as W . M .
of the Sykes Lodge for the second time . Other toasts were proposed , including " The Officers , " "The Charities , " & c , and were duly responded to . A very enjoyable evening was spent . Bros . S ., the installation ceremony being ably performed by Bro . J . O . Eve , P . M . 1209 , 429 , P . P . A . G . D . excellent repast awaited them . It was served by the worthy host , Bro . J . J . Roach , in his usual style , giving much satisfaction , and being appreciated by all who had the pleasure of being present . The various toasts were given and received with a great deal of heartiness .
In proposing that of " H . R . H . the Prince of Wales , as Grand Master , " the W . M . asked to be allowed to couple with it "H . R . H . the Princess of Wales and their Family . " The Princess , he remarked , was admired by all for her womanly goodness and domestic virtues ; both her and her daughters were examples that ought to be copied by all the mothers and daughters of England . The Princes were
objects of great satisfaction to Freemasons , seeing they were already part of the body , and he hoped preparing themselves' to be Grand Masters in the future . The Prince of Wales , as Grand Master , was endeared to every Freemason's heart by the practice of manly and robust Masonic principles , and they were greatly obliged to him for the honour he shed on them by consenting to preside over them
He considered him to be the grandest Master of the grandest Order in existence , and called upon the brethren to drink their health , wishing them long life . Other toasts followed , proposed by Bros . C . E . Shirley Woolmer , P . M ., Prov . Grand Chaplain ; S . R . Wilson , Secretary ; M . H . Gill , S . W . ; and J . O . Eve , P . Skudder also spoke in favour . The Charity box was then handed round , when a very handsome sum was collected . Bro . W . H . Marcoolyn , I . P . M ., proposed "The Health
of the W . M ,, " to whom he alluded in flattering terms , remarking that he was within touch of every member of the lodge , and all delighted to do him honour , and wished him a happy and prosperous year of office . The Worshipful Master , in replying , said , that , was he thought , the most difficult part of the evening , viz ., to return suitable thanks to Bro . Marcoolyn for the warm
manner in which he had proposed his ( the W . M . ' s ) health , and to the brethren generally for the fraternal way in which they had accepted it . He thanked them all very sincerely for unanimously electing him to fill that chair . During his year of office he would endeavour to hold the scales of Justice with an equal poise , to make every prejudice and passion coincide with the strict line of his duty , and he
earnestly hoped his term of office might be characterised by " peace , harmony , and brotherly love , " so that when it was concluded there would not be one regret in their hearts for having elected him to preside over them , and only one in his own , viz ., that he should be obliged to resign that chair to a successor . "The Health of Bro . J . O . Eve , P . M . 429 and 1209 ,
P . P . A . G . D . C , Installing Master , " was then proposed by the W . M . in suitable terms , and was received very warmly by the brethren present . Bro . J . O . Eve responded in a very feeling and capital speech . The evening was enlivened by music given by some of the members of the Canterbury Cathedral Choir ( Bros .
Plant , Rhodes , and Kenningham ) , as also Miss Ethel Winn . lt may be mentioned that Bro . Valon , W . M ., is a Mason of over 20 years' standing . He was formerly Secretary to the Iodge , which office he at present fills in the Royal Naval Lodge , 429 , and is in office in the Evening Star Lodge , 1719 , where no doubt in due course he will be called to fill the same office as that he now occupies in this lodge .

Bros . Edgar , Wilson , Torr , Dunn , and Leigh contributed songs and readings to the delight of all present .

excellent repast awaited them .
H . Gill , S . W . ; and J . O . Eve , P . M . 429 and 1209 , P . P . A . G . Dir . of Cer ., the latter
proposing " Our Masonic Charities " in forcible style . In the course of his remarks , he strongly impressed on the brethren the urgent necessity of supporting such noble Institutions . Bro .
