Chronicle" of 2 nd September , 18 7 6 . Bro . Riley says that at the date of the above warrant , No . 217 , of Sth September , 17 81 , " the Britannia vvas known as Tontine , a name ( it may be stated ) which the members gave it after the Warrant of 1765 was signed . " This lodge—No . 340 , of 19 th April , 1765—was originally known as " Rose and Crown Lodge" from its first

place of meeting . It went to the Old King ' s Head , Change Alley , in 1777 , returning to the Rose and Crown in 1784 . In 1785 or 1786 it moved to the Tontine Hotel , from vvhich date it appears to have been known as the "Tontine Lodge , " and so continued until 1795 only , vvhen it again changed its name for its present title of " The Britannia Lodge . The business of the evening being over , lodge vvas closed , and the brethren adjourned for refreshment . For the latter Bro . Hugh Cotter , P . M ., in replying , referred to the pleasure he had felt that day svhen on visiting the Institution of the Old People at Croydon , he had shaken hands vvith an old brother svho had for 11 years received the benefit of that noble Charity , and svho recognised svith gratitude the svork done by the Merchant Navy Lodge to secure his election . The W . M ., in his reply , referred to the svay in svhich he

had been supported that evening , and hoped his officers svould endeavour not only to do as svell , but even to surpass themselves in their svork as his year of office progressed . The musical . honours of the evening svere svell maintained by Bros . Shepherd , Wiseman , J . Wiseman , Graham , AValsh , Gooch , Burgess , and H . Cotter . It speaks well for the discipline of the lodge and the

Masonic spirit of its members vvhen nearly 50 muster to an emergency meeting . The annual outing of the lodge of instruction will take take place on VVednesday next . This installation meeting is a red-letter day in the history of the Chislehurst Lodsfe .

CORSHAM . Lodge Of Rectitude ( No . 335 ) . —The installaof W . M . for the ensuing year of this , the senior lodge in the Province of Wiltshire , took place at the Methuen Arms Hotel , on Tuesday , the 24 th ult ., svhen a large assemblage of its members and visitors met to svelcome the incoming Master , Bro . Gee . Wm . Keeling , P . M . 106 7 , P . P . J . G . D .

Gloucestershire , svho svas initiated in that Iodge in 1 S 70 , and passed the chair in 1 S 76 . Amongst those present there svere 24 Past Masters , of svhom 13 had passed the chair in this lodge . On the present occasion the brethren had the pleasure of svelcoming their tsvo oldest Past Masters—Bro . G . B . Keeling , father of the VV . M . ( svho had himself held this office in 1836 , and had remained a member of the lodge

1 he painting is by Bro . B . Hudson , and is considered one of the best portraits that has issued from his studio . It represents the subject as an officer of the Grand Lodge of England , and not only is the portrait life-like in its resemblance , but the pose is admirable , and the minute details of jewels and clothing are most elaborately painted . Altogether the picture is a great ornament to the spacious dining hall of the lodge , svhich contains many other fine portraits of distinguished brethren .

Hotel , where the banquet took place . An elegant and recherche repast vvas served , after vvhich the usual loyal and Masonic toasts were duly honoured . A choice selection of vocal music svas performed during and after dinner by " The Lyric Orpheus Quartette" party , svhich added much to the enjoyment of the evening .

LIVERPOOL . Merchants' Lodge ( No . 241 ) . —At the Masonic Hall , Hope-street , Bro . Joseph Cornish svas on the 24 th ult . duly installed W . M . of the above lodge for the ensuing year . 'The lodge is one of the oldest in the West Lancashire province , and obtained its centenary charter in 1880 . Bro . W . M-Lachlan , the retiring W . M ., performed the

installation ceremony , and Bro . Cornish invested his officers as follosvs : Bros . VV . M'Lachlan , I . P . M . ; R . Pruddah , S . W . ; Joseph West , J . Chronicle" of 2 nd September , 18 7 6 . Bro . Riley says that at the date of the above warrant , No . 217 , of Sth September , 17 81 , " the Britannia vvas known as Tontine , a name ( it may be stated ) which the members gave it after the Warrant of 1765 was signed . " This lodge—No . 340 , of 19 th April , 1765—was originally known as " Rose and Crown Lodge" from its first

place of meeting . It went to the Old King ' s Head , Change Alley , in 1777 , returning to the Rose and Crown in 1784 . In 1785 or 1786 it moved to the Tontine Hotel , from vvhich date it appears to have been known as the "Tontine Lodge , " and so continued until 1795 only , vvhen it again changed its name for its present title of " The Britannia Lodge . For the latter Bro . Hugh Cotter , P . M ., in replying , referred to the pleasure he had felt that day svhen on visiting the Institution of the Old People at Croydon , he had shaken hands vvith an old brother svho had for 11 years received the benefit of that noble Charity , and svho recognised svith gratitude the svork done by the Merchant Navy Lodge to secure his election . The W . M ., in his reply , referred to the svay in svhich he

had been supported that evening , and hoped his officers svould endeavour not only to do as svell , but even to surpass themselves in their svork as his year of office progressed . CORSHAM . Lodge Of Rectitude ( No . 335 ) . —The installaof W . M . for the ensuing year of this , the senior lodge in the Province of Wiltshire , took place at the Methuen Arms Hotel , on Tuesday , the 24 th ult ., svhen a large assemblage of its members and visitors met to svelcome the incoming Master , Bro . Gee . Wm . Keeling , P . M . 106 7 , P . P . J . G . D .

Gloucestershire , svho svas initiated in that Iodge in 1 S 70 , and passed the chair in 1 S 76 . Amongst those present there svere 24 Past Masters , of svhom 13 had passed the chair in this lodge . On the present occasion the brethren had the pleasure of svelcoming their tsvo oldest Past Masters—Bro . G . B . Keeling , father of the VV . M . 1 he painting is by Bro . B . Hudson , and is considered one of the best portraits that has issued from his studio . It represents the subject as an officer of the Grand Lodge of England , and not only is the portrait life-like in its resemblance , but the pose is admirable , and the minute details of jewels and clothing are most elaborately painted . Altogether the picture is a great ornament to the spacious dining hall of the lodge , svhich contains many other fine portraits of distinguished brethren .

LIVERPOOL . Merchants' Lodge ( No . 241 ) . —At the Masonic Hall , Hope-street , Bro . Joseph Cornish svas on the 24 th ult . duly installed W . M . of the above lodge for the ensuing year . 'The lodge is one of the oldest in the West Lancashire province , and obtained its centenary charter in 1880 . Bro . W . M-Lachlan , the retiring W . M ., performed the
