The building is situated in a remarkably pretty part of suburban London , and is an old residence adapted to its present uses , the
college being founded in 1 S 27 by Sir Rowland Hill . The grounds are well kept and extensive , and the company on Saturday , previous to the arrival of the Lord Mayor , passed the time in admiring their beauty and watching some athletic sports , and a well-contested cricket match of Past v . Present Brucians . This was won by the latter eleven , and being but their second success since the institution of
the match produced some enthusiastic congratulations . One of the boys , Witherington , was afterwards presented with a large silver challenge cup held for the year by the best all-round player , and adjudged by the head master . On Saturday afternoon , the 29 th ult ., Bro . the Right Hon . the Lord Alayor , Grand Warden , accompanied by the Lady Alayoress , drove in state to Bruce Castle College , Bruce-grove , 'Tottenham , for the purpose of presenting the prizes at the annual distribution . The building is situated in a remarkably pretty part of suburban London , and is an old residence adapted to its present uses , the
college being founded in 1 S 27 by Sir Rowland Hill . The grounds are well kept and extensive , and the company on Saturday , previous to the arrival of the Lord Mayor , passed the time in admiring their beauty and watching some athletic sports , and a well-contested cricket match of Past v . Present Brucians . This was won by the latter eleven , and being but their second success since the institution of
the match produced some enthusiastic congratulations . One of the boys , Witherington , was afterwards presented with a large silver challenge cup held for the year by the best all-round player , and adjudged by the head master . The prize distribution took place in the school-room , an addition made to the main building about nineteen years ago . The place was decorated with mottoes of welcome , flags , the city coat of arms , & c—City Press .
