Before the chapter was closed
Comp . 1 . D . Hayes , I . P . Z ., was presented with a handsome and valuable P . Z . 's jewel by the Al . E . Z ., who said he could scarcely find words to tell them how worthy Comp . Hayes was ot their esteem and regard , and how little that jewel represented the estimation in which he was held in the chapter ; but he knew that Comp . Hayes would receive it with pleasure , knowing that it had been voted him by the unanimous voice of the companions . He need not tell
them how much Comp . Hayes had deserved all their commendation , but he trusted he might be spared long to be with them and wear the jewel as an ornament , as he ( Comp . Hayes ) was and would always be an ornament to the chapter . Comp . Hayes , in returning thanks , said hc should always value the jewel as one of the most precious of his treasures , and they might depend upon it that no effort should ever be wanting on his part to keep up the high
prestige of the chapter . 'The chapter was then closed , and the companions sped away by train to Dartford , where at the Bull , Comp . Bray's famous hostelry , a recherche banquet awaited them . warm reception , and they did . I he next toast was that of " AI . E . Comp . Eastes , Grand Provincial H . " and in putting it the Al . E . Z . said Comp . Eastes was a splendid Mason and was of incalculable service to their Grand Superintendent . In fact , without Comp . Eastes the work could not be carried o " ut . 'Their esteemed companion would have been present that night were it not for the fact that just now he had so many important duties to attend to ;
but they had a distinguished provincial ofheer with them ; be alluded to Comp . Warne , who he was proud to welcome , and with his name he should couple the toast . Comp . Warne , who rose amid cheers to return thanks , said he must be permitted on behalf of himsell and the absent officers of the province to return them his sincere thanks for the very cordial reception of the toast so ably put by the M . E . Z . With reference to their Grand
Superintendant , he must say that it was no small or easy thing to preside over and guide the destines of Royal Aich Masonry in such a province as that of Kent , and Comp . Eastes , was most indefatigable in his work for both the Craft and Royal Arch ; and when he told them that there had been three public gatherings of Masons that week , at two of which Comp . Eastes had been present , they would at once see that it was not well possible that he could be
present at this , however Comp . Eastes regretted that inability ; and when he ( Comp . Warne ) left him at Canterbury the previous night , Comp . Eastes said to him " Convey to my very good friends of the Pattison Chapter , my hearty good wishes . " It was to Lord Holmesdale and Comp . Eastes that the prestige of Royal Arch Alasonry stood so high in Kent , and he knew that they were welt supported by the rest of the Prov . Grand Officers . As to
the many kind words that had been said about himself , he might say as an American once said on hearing a rather mprobable tale , " that it would take forty men to believe it , " and as there were forty companions present , beside himself , they just made up the requisite number , according to the American's idea , to believe all that the Al . E . Z . had so kindly said about him . Vet his was a service of great pleasure and pride , and as Secretary of the province he
was proud to see so many happy faces present , and could only say that the Pattison Chapter was one of the best and most esteemed in the province . He was sorry not to have had the opportunity of being present at the installation , but hoped to have the pleasure , some other day , to come and see them in their new home . He then referred to the handsome present made at the last Grand Lodge meeting at Sandwich , to Bro . and Comp . Robinson , which consisted
of a handsome silver salver , selected by Lord Holmesdale , Comp . Eastes , and himself , and suitably inscribed , handsome Grand Lodge and Grand Chapter clothing , and magnificent jewels to match , and £ 180 in a purse . ( The clothing and jewels were made by Bro . George Kenning . He might tell them that Bro . Robinson also regretted his inability to attend , and said , " Tell the companions of the Pattison Chapter how sorry I am that
1 cannot come , but I am only a country parson , and must attend to my fold . " Comp . Hayes , LP . / , then proposed " The Health of tne M . E . / ., " and congratulated the chapter upon having such an excellent working Alason at the head of its affiairs . M . E . Comp . Lloyd , in reply , referred back to the last installation , when he was unable to be present , and expressed his gratitude for being placed in the chair of it
then . He had tried to dolus duty , and would , but scarcely dared to hope to compete with those who had gone before him . As he trusted he had done fair service in the lodge while at its head , so now he hoped to meet with tneir approbation in his present exalted position as head of the chapter . Comp . Sweny , replied for "Thc Second and Third Principals . " Comp . Alason also responded .
The Past Principals were then honoured ; and Comps . Hayes , LP . / ., and Capt . Penfold replied . 'The toasts of " The Visitors " and " The Officers " followed , and Comp . Ritchie and Dr . Gordon replied . " 'The Masonic Press , " and " The Host" were the other toasts , while a well-deserved vote of thanks to Comp . F . H . Cozens , Comp . F . Carpenter , Comp . A . Hubbard , and Aliss Alay Terry , for their line rendering of a selection of vocal music , brought the proceedings to a close .

endeavour to bring ail the influence he possessed to induce brethren ot his various lodges to enter the Order of the Royal Arch , through the portals of No . 1423 .
