Shortly afterwards pleasing presentations were made in the shape of suitable Masonic clothing to Bro . Geo . Manton , I . P . M ., who had recently been honoured with the appointment of Prov . Grand Std . Br . North and East Yorkshire ; . to Bro . Joseph Booth , Provincial Grand Steward Noith and East Yorkshire ; and
to Bro . James McGee , a Past Secretary s jewel . The presentation to Bro . Manton was made in well-chosen terms by Bro . Captain Hewson , who said they were met to recognise the great services rendered especially by the newly-elected Prov . G . Std . Br . since he had known the lodge . That brother had steadily progressed from the door of the lodge step by step to the chair , and had heartily endeavoured to support his lodge and bring into it men of
the proper stamp . It was to his energetic services that the Agricola Lodge owed a large measure of its success . It was a pleasure to the brethren to feel that the lodge was honoured by honouring Bro . Manton , and they all wished their brother health and strength to wear his regalia for years to come . Bro . Manton , who was cordially received , thanked the W . M . and brethren for the handsome way in which they had recognised his services , and he trusted
they would think with him that it had been a labour of love . He thought highly of Masonry and of that lodge in particular , and he hoped in future to be able to take an even greater , interest in Masonry , and to do his utmost for the success of the lodge . The W . M . then presented Bro . Booth with the Provincial Grand Steward ' s clothing , a suitable reply being made , and Bro . Thornton , I . P . M ., handed to Bro . McGee his Past Secretary ' s jewel , an appropriate acknowledgment being
made . Subsequently the brethren and visitors dined together at Bro . Bucktin ' s Coach and Horses , the repast being highly satisfactory . terms by the I . P . M . In the course of his speech he congratulated the VV . M . upon his work that afternoon . He ( the speaker ) was pleased that after a lapse of three years the council was beginning to revive . They had four candidates in June last and two that evening . Thc W . M . was highly respected in every Degree in which he worked , and
deservedly so . Having , therefore , a good Master at its head , an efficient Treasurer , and a useful staff of officers , the council was bound to flourish . The Worshipful Master having briefly replied , the toast of "The Initiates , " "The Past Masters , " and "The Officers " terminated the proceedings .
The "Red Book."
THE "RED BOOK . "
One of the most interesting o £ Masonic annuals is the " Red Book" of the " Ancient and Accepted Rite for England , Wales , and the Dependencies of the British Crown , " which , though corrected to 30 th June in each year , is always commendably prompt , and is already to be obtained for 1893-4 .
There is not a more accurate or comprehensive publication of the kind published , and as it contains the rules and regulations to the 32 , with a complete roll of chapters and list of members from the Rose Croix lo the coveted 33 , its usefulness to members of the Rite must be apparent . Though now a thick little volume of over 200 pages , with a neat map showing the "
Districts of Inspectors-General , 33 '' " ( two , by-the-byc , arc of the 32 ") , the price remains at one shilling , as heretofore ( postage 2 d . ) , and we strongly advise all brethren who take an interest in this well-governed and most zealous Masonic organisation to procure copies for themselves . We go further , and say that if they do not procure and study this excellent annual they fail in
their duty , for it is naturally the intention of the Supreme Council , and especially the desire of the indefatigable editor , Bro . Hugh David Sandeman , P . Dist . G . M ., & c , Bengal , and Grand Secretary-General , to afford all needful information to the brethren , and thus equip them rightly to discharge their duties and obligations , whether as M . W . Sovereigns , officers , or
members . There is certainly no lack of Degrees worked in this country , but nevertheless it seems to us a pity that some of the Degrees now only conferred nominally on candidales for the Rose Croix and Knight Kadosh , are not , at times , given in extenso . The method ot communicating these preliminary Degrees mig ht be wha
improved upon in some chapters , and no matter . reasons may be offered , and how great the assumed hurry , each series of ceremonies should be duly g lVcn under their respective divisions or classes , and as far as possible with brief explanations , especially ' n 0- * e immediately preceding the Rose Croix , say from '" 13 ' to the 17 ° inclusive
. . The statement of accounts , usually printed with th annual , is omitted , but as an audited report is sent all the chapters , and all brethren from the 30 " upward * there is no real omission after all . ,. There are 24 Supreme Councils recognised by Supreme Council , from all of whom , with two v uui / ivim . vutiiibiij uuiii Ciii vi IIIIUIIIJ " 'm -- •*
tions , either Captain N . G . Philips , 33 ° ( tl , e se re member of the S . C . ) , or Bro . H . D . Sandeman j ^ the representatives to this country . It is desirable brethren going abroad should consult this list P ° , visiting any chapters or other bodies , that they ' ' . not unthinkingly attend unauthorised Masonic org '

FiUingham , B . A ., having been duly balloted for , were initiated into the Orders of St . Lawrence , Knights of Constantinople , and the Red Cross of Babylon , the three ceremonies being admirably performed by the W . M ., ably assisted by Bros .
H . J . Lardner , G . Graveley , and J . Smnh , the last-named brother ' s working of Z ., in the Red Cross of Babylon , being of excellent merit . A vote of thanks was passed with acclamation to those who had officiated so well . The resignation of Bro . Major Penrose Dunbar , one of the oldest members of the council , was received with regret . Apologies for non-attendance svere received from Bros . Lieut .-Col . G . Lambert , P . M . ; W . G . Baron de Ferrieres , P . M . ; R . L . Loveland , J . P ., P . M . ; Major VV . B . Williamson , J . P ., P . M . ; A . McDowall , S . W . ; and many others . The lodge was then closed , and the brethren adjourned to the banquet which was held at the Holborn Restaurant . The customary loyal and : Allied Degrees toasts were duly honoured . "The Health of the W . M . " was proposed in warm
terms by the I . P .

It is desirable brethren going abroad should consult this list P ° , visiting any chapters or other bodies , that they ' ' . not unthinkingly attend unauthorised Masonic org '
