The procession having arrived at the hall , the brethren uncovered to the right and left , and allowed the Provincial Grand Officers to pass into the hall , during which time solemn music was performed by

interest of the Craft , have erected a Masonic Hall for their convenience and accommodation . They are desirous that the same should be examined by the Right Worshipful Prov . Grand Lodge , and if it should meet their approbation that it be solemnly dedicated to Masonic purposes , agreeably to ancient form and

usage . The architect and builder having addressed the chair , Bro . Major LESLIE J . THOMPSON said : Brethren , the skill and fidelity displayed in the execution of the trust reposed in you at the commencement of this undertaking have secured the entire approval of the Provincial Grand Lodge ; and they sincerely pray that

this edifice may continue a lasting monument of the taste , spirit , and liberality of its founders . The ceremony of dedication was then proceeded with , and at its conclusion the W . M . of Lodge 6 75 , Donaghadee , presented a silver trowel to Bro . Reid , Grand Cashier of the Grand Lodge of Scotland , was present during the ceremony . After the close of the dedication the brethren

proceeded to the Assembly Rooms , where a sumptuous dinner had been prepared by Messrs . Chas . Thompson and Son . The dinner having been done full justice to , Bro . ROBERT SLOAN , who occupied the chair , proposed the toast of "The M . W . G . M . of Ireland and

other Grand Masters in communication with the Grand Lodge of Ireland . " The toast having been duly honoured , The CHAIRMAN proposed the toast of "The R . W . Provincial Grand Lodge of Down . " He said the brethren of Donaghadee Lodge were very pleased at

the brotherly way in which the Provincial Grand Lodge had dedicated the lodge that day . The Prov . Grand Master , Bro . Major THOMPSON , replied , and on behalf of the Provincial Grand Lodge thanked them very sincerely for the kind manner in which the toast had been proposed and received . He

was certain that it afforded himself and others a very great pleasure to attend there that day and assist in the dedication of the hall . He was happy to say that no matter what part of the province the members of the Provincial Grand Lodge went to they always received a hospitable welcome , and , if anything were

wanting , it showed the brotherl y kindness which existed between the higher and lower lodges , and was a positive proof that their exertions were appreciated . There was one subject he wished to allude to speciall y , and that was that this year was the centenary

celebration of the Masonic Orphan Schools in Dublin . The Grand Lodge had made a strong appeal to the Provincial Grand Lodges and other members to raise a large fund for the benefit of the Schools . Several of the provincial lodges had undertaken to furnish stalls in connection with a sale of work or bazaar next May ,

Ireland.

whilst other lodges thought the most convenient way was to send in a subscription . The object was one worthy of consideration from a charitable point of view , and he was speaking authoritatively when he said the Provincial Grand Secretary would be happy to receive contributions no matter of what nature . He

begged to thank the brethren for the kind manner in which the toast had been received . Bro . HUGH Ross proposed "The Health and Happiness of Bro . Horner , " who had been one of the greatest supports of No . 675 since his connection with the lodge , and all along had shown his interest in the erection of

the hall . Bro . HORNER having responded to the toast , The PROVINCIAL GRAND MASTER proposed "The Health of the Worshipful Master , Bro . Sloan , and the Members of Lodge 675 . " In doing so he said he hoped the new lodge room would prove a source of

great convenience to them , and that it would give an impetus to Masonry in that neighbourhood . The CHAIRMAN replied on behalf of the brethren of No . 6 75 and himself . He considered he was greatly honoured in having been placed in the position of Chairman that evening , and on behalf of his brother

Masons he begged to thank the visiting brethren for the hearty manner in which the toast had been received . He was sure he expressed the sentiments of Lodge 6 75 when he said they would always be happy to receive any of the members of the Provincial Grand Lodge in their midst . He had been asked to propose their R . W . Prov . Grand Master as an honorary member of No . 675 .

The CHAIRMAN proposed the toast of The Visiting Brethren , " coupled with the name of Bro . Reid , Grand Cashier of the Grand Lodge of Scotland . The toast having been honoured , Bro . REID and Bro . PATTON , 240 , Canada , suitably replied for the visitors , while the toast of " The Provincial Grand Lodge of Antrim" was proposed , and responded to by Bro . STOKES .

The interesting proceedings shortly afterwards terminated . 1 _

Masonic Presentation To Bro. G. Dawman.

MASONIC PRESENTATION TO BRO . G . DAWMAN .

At the regular meeting of the Albion Lodge , No . 2086 , Woodstock , South Africa , on Thursday , 16 th June , there was a very large attendance of visitors , including Bro . J . A . Williams , W . M ., and several members of the Woodstock Lodge , No . 2379 ; Bro . Tibbits ,

P . M ., and members of the Lome Lodge ( S . C . ) ; Bro . King , P . M ., and members of the Carnarvon Lodge , No . 1735 ; Bro . Bindemann , W . M . 1603 ; and Bro . B . T . Hutchinson , P . M . After the working , the W . M ., Bro . J . B . WHEEL - WRIGHT , said that a very pleasing duty fell to his lot

that evening . Ihe Albion Lodge had unanimously voted an architect ' s jewel to Bro . G . Dawman for the services that he had rendered as architect of the Temple and building they were now in—services rendered without charge . He ( the speaker ) was but a comparatively young Mason , and was not in the

Craft when Bro . Dawman , with others , founded the Albion Lodge , so he would call on Bro . N . Mackay , as one of the founders , to present the jewel . Bro . N . MACKAY gave the history of the jewel , and the difficulty that had at first presented itself , by reason of architects' jewels being very rare . The jewel

consisted of a Corinthian column , with a circular protractor and five-pointed star , the whole encircled with a chased wreath . The jewel was of solid gold . In acknowledging the presentation , Bro . G . DAWMAN alluded to his being connected with three lodges , and of his being the founder of two in that colony . He

endeavoured to carry out the true principles of Masonry , not only inside the Temple , but also in his daily life and business avocations . The reply also alluded to the fact that whatever he did with regard to the plans for the building was done for the Albion Lodge and not for any speculative company . The address was ordered to be incorporated in the

minutes in full . During the proceedings afterwards many of the brethren present alluded in warm terms to the many quiet and unobtrusive acts of Bro . Dawman that were truly Masonic , and the help he had rendered to many in various ways ; with wishes that he mi ght long live to continue his good deeds .

Crystal Palace District Gas Company.

CRYSTAL PALACE DISTRICT GAS COMPANY .

The ordinary general meeting of the proprietors of the Crystal Palace District Gas Company will be held at the Albion Tavern , Aldersgate-street , on Friday , the nth September , when the report and balance-sheet for the half-year ended the 30 th June last will be presented . The balance to the credit of revenue account is stated

as £ 3648 , and the decrease in the profit on the halfyear ' s working as compared with that of the corresponding half of last year is explained by the excessive price of coal and the increase in wages . However , taking the balance brought forward from previous halfyear and the proceeds of sale of the contingent fund ,

the balance available for dividend amounts to £ 20 , 374 . The directors accordingly recommend a dividend for the half-year of 6 per cent , on the Preference Stock , 7 per cent , on Ordinary 7 per Cent . Stock , 10 per cent , on the Ordinary 10 per Cent . Stock , and 7 per cent , on the New Ordinary 7 per Cent . Shares . This , with income tax , will absorb about £ 14 , 233 , and leave £ 6142

to be carried forward to the credit of the next half-year . The report also shows an improvement in coke and other residuals to the extent of £ 2510 , and an increase amount to 1287 per cent , in the quantity of gas sold over the corresponding half of last year . The report and accounts are thus most satisfactory , and will , doubtless , be accepted as such by the proprietors .

Partridge shooting commenced on Tuesday , the istinst ., and the reports received from Berks , Hants , Wilts , and other counties show that birds are plentiful . Owing , however , to the little progress that has been made with the harvest operations in consequence of the wet weather , sport has been very generally delayed ; indeed , it will be some time before the season has fairly set in elsewhere than in the Southern counties .
