Degree of Master Mason . Bro . Dix next performed the graceful act of passing Bro . Grover to the Second Degree , " that brother ' s lodge being in recess , and he was about to depart for Australia . The next business on the agenela was the initiation of two geutlemen into the Order . One of them , Dr . R . G . The working of the W . M . was admitted by all present to be capitally rendered , and ably assisted by the Deaconry of Bro . Meyers . Several matters of lodge interest were next disposed of , including the resignation of one of the Past Masters , and lodge was closed in due form . There was no banquet , but the brethren passed several hours in pleasant and social intercourse . Bro . Dix gave the usual

, Bro . Littell , VV . M ., having occupied the chair , Bro . Beaumont Morice was raised to the Sublime Degree of a M . M . The W . M . elect , Bro . Frank Green , was then presented for installation , and Bro . Sir John Monckton , having again occupied the chair , proceeded according to ancient ceremony to induct him into the chair of King Solomon , and very ably delivered the usual addresses . The new-Master then appointed his officers as follows : Wildey

Wright , S . W . ; W . VV . Brown , J . W . ; R . J . Pawley , Treas . ; J . E . Turner , Sec . ; C . VV . Bowley , S . D . ; Henry Wright , J . D . ; E . Garnet Man , I . G . j 11 . Pannell , C . C , D . C ; J . Perkins , C . C , Wine Steward ; F . A . Jewson , Org . The accounts of the lodge were then presented and pronounced to be highly satisfactory , and were ordered to be printed and circulated among the members . The business being ended , the brethren adjourned to the

banqueting-room . The loyal and . Masonic toasts were given , and , in proposing the health of the Grand Officers , the W . M . referred to the presence of Sir John Monckton and other members of the Alliance Lodge . ( Cheers . ) Bro . Peter de Lande Long and Bro . George Lambert , both of whom were heartily cheered , responded . Bro . C . F . Littell gave the health ofthe VV . M ., observing that their respected brother

occupied his present position not for the first time . He coulel assure him that he would receive the cordial support and co-operation of the brethren , and if he should desire any assistance it would be most cheerfully given him by the P . M . ' s . He , on their behalf , wished him a most prosperous and happy year of office . ( Cheers . ) The VV . M . responding , said that he should endeavour to discharge his

duties in such a manner that the loelge should not lack dignity or honour during his year of office . For the furtherance of this object he should have the co-operation of all the oflicers and members of thc lodge . The lodge was started under more favourable auspices than generally fell to the lot of new lodges . Its very great success was due in no small measure to this ; and

he was quite sure that he could not do better in his efforts to extend the usefulness of the Alliance Lodge than in following the example of his predecessors—Bros . Sir John Monckton and L . F . Littell . ( Cheers . ) He subsequently gave "The Health of the Immediate Past Master , Bro . K . F . Littell , " stating that it was a matter of great satisfaction to him that the toast needed so little from him to

commend a cordial response , seeing the very admirable manner in which he had discharged his duties during the past year . It was a great pleasure that , as Master , he had to hand to Bro . E . F . Littell a small testimonial , not only of their fraternal regard , but in acknowledgment of the ability in which he had discharged the duties of his office . ( Cheers . ) This testimonial—a

very handsome silver salver , bearing the inscription : "Alliance Lodge , No . 1 S 27 . Presented as a mark of fraternal respect for the able , courteous , and efficient discharge of the duties of Worshipful Master during his year of office . Nov . 2 nd , 1 SS 1 . " In the name of the Alliance Lodge he had , therefore , to ask his ( Bro . Littell's ) acceptance of this token of their regard and esteem . ( Cheers . )

He felt that m doing this he should be simply expressing the earnest wish of every brother present if he stated how much they hoped he would live long in health and happiness to recognise in this silver salver a token of their appreciation of the services he had rendered to the Alliance Lodge . ( Cheers . ) Bro . C . F . Littell , in response , said it was a source of infinite satisfaction to himself to

find that his discharge of the duties of W . Master had met with the approbation of the brethren . When the lodge did him the honour of voting for him the usual Past Master ' s jewel , he was reminded of what took place in the case of Sir John Monckton , his predecessor , who said he had so many jewels that he really had not space for another , and he asked the lodge to substitute something in

lien . He was thc humble possessor of but one jewel , so the same excuse would not serve in his case . A jewel , however was only valuable to its possessor , and could not be worn b y anyone else , and as his career as a working Mason would draw to a close that evening , he thought he should like some more lasting memorial of his connection with the lodge—a something that would be useful to himself and to his family . The brethren very kindly acceded to his request , and a handsome silver salver was chosen .

Reports Of Masonic Meetings.

This was a testimonial of which he shou ' id ever be proud ., and he was quite certain his family would prize it as he did . ( Cheers . ) In conclusion , he could assure them that the events of the evening would be remembered by him as long as memory lasted . ( Hear , hear . ) The VV . M . next gave "The Health of the Visitors , " stating how much he felt flattered that so many visitors should be there to

support him on that occasion . ( Cheers . ) Bro . Frank Richardson , one of the Grand Officers . replied in a suitable speech ; and the W . M . then proposed "The Health of the Officers , " to which the S . W ., Bro . Wildey Wright , responded . The Tyler ' s Toast concluded the list . Miss Dunbar Perkins played a selection of pieces upon the violin , and was loudly applauded , as was Bro . J . J . Cantlin , who sang several very good songs .

In the course of the usual speeches which followed , the W . M .

explained to the brethren thc character and objects of the Three Great Masonic Charities . He intended to be a Steward for the Aged Benevolent Institution , and Bro . Griffiths would be a Steward for the Girls' School , and he urged the lodge to do the best they could as a young lodge to contribute something to the funds of those excellent and valuable Institutions .
