quite believed what had been stated , that in future his ( Comp . Goodacre ' s ) services would not be required , inasmuch as Comp . Heywood ' s abilities would be sufficiently adequate to perform any ceremony in Royal Arch or Craft Masonry . Comp . Goodacre , continuing , said it was a double pleasure to him to visit a chapter where such a goodly number of
companions attended , particularly when it was home in mind that in West Lancashire there were more chapters than in any other province—more , he believed , than in the sister Province of East Lancashire . He felt very pleased also to find that the Chorlton Chapter had not forgotten the Masonic Charities , and this fact was at all times pleasing to the esteemed nobleman who presided over the
province when brought before his notice . His lordship had been pleased to confer provincial rank upon one ot their members , viz ., Comp . Marshall , who had not only done his utmost to induce the chapter to subscribe to the Charities , but had himself largely contributed to them . In conclusion , Comp . Goodacre said he felt quite sure the Chorlton Chapter would highly esteem the honour which the R . W . P . G . M .

Pearl Life Assurance Company.
PEARL LIFE ASSURANCE COMPANY .
It is manifest from the annual report and statement of accounts which were presented at the 23 rd annual general meeting of the Pearl Life Insurance Company , at the end of September last , that the past year has been one of very considerable progress , and that the fortunes of this Company are more promising than ever . No less than
37 '> 945 policies were issued during the 12 months covered by the report , the annual premium resulting therefrom being £ 142 , 808 17 s . Gd . The income exceeded that of the previous year by £ 18 , 862 i ? s . 7 a ' -. its amount being , ( , 218 , 848 3 s ., while the premium income on policies in force at the close of June amounted to £ 243 , 776 195 . gd . ; and there is every reason to believe that this will be well
sustained during the year now current . Claims to the number of 13 , 306 , and amounting to £ 82 , 056 12 s . gd ., became due and were ratified , while the asssurance fund , with capital paid up , amounts to £ 152 , 470 3 s . 3 d ., no less than £ . 28 , 241 12 s . gd ., or nearly double the amount of the previous year , having been added to it during the last 12 months . Under these circumstances , it is not surprising
that the directors have been able to recommend a dividend of 10 per cent , to be paid , one half during the past month of October , and the second half on the 30 th March next . Indeed , while the management of thc Pearl Life Office is conducted on the lines which have hitherto characterised the proceedings of its directors , there is good reason to hope that it will slowly , but surely , develope into one of our largest and safest businesses of this class .
Bio . Alderman Whitehead , on VVednesday , at the Guildhall Tavern , entertained the Corporators and prominent inhabitants of the ward of Cheap at a banquet in honour of their colleague and representative , Bro . Major and Sheriff Davies .
