The usual addresses were impressively given by Bro . Frank Manby , the retiring W . M ., who was afterwards presented by the W . Bro . Louis Hirsch gave the closing charge to the brethren in a most feeling manner . The lodge being closed , the brethren adjourned to a sumptuous banquet . In proposing "The Queen and the Craft" the W . M . adverted to the patronage her Majesty always extended to the Charitable Institutions of the Craft , and in proposing the

toast of "H . R . H . the Prince of Wales , M . W . G . M ., " the W . M . expressed the sympathy of the lodge with the Prince and Princess of Wales , and hoped that their son , Prince George , might soon be restored to health and strength . Both toasts were drunk with great enthusiasm . The usual other toasts followed , Bro . Frank Manby , l . P . M . proposing " The Health of the W . M . " and wishing

him as happy and prosperous a year of office as his had been . The Worshipful Master responded in suitable terms , thanking the brethren for the honour they had paid him that evening . The toast of "The Visitors " was responded to by Bros . Wallis and McQueen ; and Bros . Hirsch , P . M . Treas ., and Howard Smith , P . M ., Sec , both responded to the

toast of " The Treasurer and Secretary . " The toasts of "The Officers" having been given and duly responded to , the Tyler ' s toast brought a most enjoyable evening to a close . The enjoyment of the evening was considerably enhanced by some excellent music . Bro . Sackville Evans singing

amongst other songs , " To Anthea , " in a most charming manner , and Bro . H . P . Matthews , caused much hilarity by his perfect rendering of "The little brown jug" and "Something in the City , " while other songs were contributed by Bros . Pullen , Snell , and Howard Smith , Bro . F . A . Jewson , ably presiding at the pianoforte .

Shepherd ' s Bush Lodge ( No . 1828 ) . —The members of the above lodge held their annual installation meeting at the Bush Hotel , Shepherd's Bush Green , on Monday last . The lodge has hitherto had rather a wandering existence , but the members now hope that in this handsomeand commodious building they have found a permanent home . The ceremonies were most ably worked by Bro .

Weniel , W . M ., who , after installing his successor , Bro . C . Vandyk , was presented with a handsome jewel . The W . M . installed his officers as follows : Bros . Rossdale , S . W . ; Waldvogel , J . W . ; Williams , P . M ., Treas . ; Josey , P . M ., Sec ; Hagen , S . D . ; Martineau , J . D . ; Cramp , I . G . ; Allman , P . M ., D . C ; Ayers and Bull , Stewards ; and Goddard , Tyler . The members and visitors to the number of 40 afterwards

sat down to an excellent banquet , served in a manner which did the utmost credit to the worthy host and hostess , B ro . and Mrs . Watts . The musical services of Miss A . Delatour , Mr . S . Jones , Mr . F . Searle , and others , under the direction of Bros . L . Lee and Wright were much appreciated . Amongst the visitors were Bros . Simpson , P . M ., P . G . C . ; Abrahams , A . G . P . ; G . Read , P . M . ; and many other well known Masons .

Highbury Lodge ( No . 2192 ) . —The installation meeting of this lodge was held at the Cock Tavern , Highbury Railway Station , on the 20 " th ult .. Bro . John Barnett , jun ., in the chair . The usual lodge business was transacted , after which Bro . Thos . Glass , S 6 o , was elected as a joining member . Bro . Chas . Fredk . Hogard , P . G . Std . Br ., was then obligated and installed as W . M .

the ceremony being performed by Bro . John Barnett , jun ., in a masterly manner . The newly-installed W . M . proceeded to appoint and invest his officers as follows : Bros . J . Barnett , jun ., l . P . M . ; J . Terry , S . W . ; W . Shurmur , J . W . ; W . H . Baker , Treas . ; T . Hastings Miller , G . S . B ., Sec . ; W . Maple , S . D . ; A . P . Bowyer , J . D . ; H . Sprake , D . C . ; E . S . Crick , I . G . : C . Cope

and D . W . Bell , Stwds . ; and R . J . Morley , Tyler . There was a large number of visitors present , most of whom were distinguished in the Craft . Among the visitors were Bros . J . H . Cooke , J . L . Mather , P . A . G . D . C . ; W . A . Harvey , T . B . Dodson , A . Clemow , H . Adams , E . Acworth , Prov . G . Treas . Essex ; G . Tessey , J . C . Hayes , J . Gallaher , Dr . Goddard , and Minstrell .

At the closing of the lodge the brethren partook of a choice banquet . After the toast of "The Queen and the Craft" had been honoured , the Worshipful Master gave the toast of ; 'H . R . H . the Prince of Wales , M . W . G . M ., " and alluded in sympathetic terms to the illness of Prince George of Wales . He said the brethren were very pleased to hear

that he was progressing favourably towards recovery . The toast of "The Grand Officers , Present and Past , " was next submitted to the brethren by the Worshipful Master , who said it was a very comprehensive toast , and one in which they all felt very much interested , because they had amongst them Bro . Hastings Miller , Grand Sword Bearer , whose name he would couple with the toast .

Bro . Hastings Miller , in replying , said the W . M . had set a very good example in making the speeches as short as possible , but although his ( Bro . Miller ' s ) reply was short , it was none the less sincere , and he thanked the W . M . for coupling his name with the toast . He believed every Grand Officer had one desire only , and that was the weliare of the Craft . He had endeavoured for the last 11

years to do his best for the Craft , and he was certain that every Grand Officer had done the same . Bro . J . Barnett , jun ., I . P . M ., next proposed "The Worshipful Master , " and in doing so said there were exceptional reasons why they should drink the toast at the present time with a vast amount of cordiality . He was told the health of the Worshipful Master had not been as good lately as they could have wished it . He could assure

the brethren that when he was informed that Bro . Hogard was ill he thought it would be next to a calamity if the illness extended over many more days . They were very gratified to see him in the chair that night , and they trusted he would have better health during his year of office . Bro . Hogard , W . M ., said for the very cordial way the brethren had received the toast he could only express his very poor but very sincere thanks . The Highbury Lodge had been from its formation a success . They had not gone

about to get in a large number of brethren , but they had got together a number of good brethren . He was one of the founders of the lodge , and he now found himself in the proud position of Worshipful Master . He expressed his best thanks for the very cordial and flattering terms in which Bro . Barnett had given the toast , and if he could do anything for the good of the Highbury Lodge he should do so with the

greatest pleasure . The Worshipful Master , in proposing the toast of "The Visitors , " said it had been in the Highbury Lodge a very desirable custom to receive visitors at their lodge and festive board . He was very pleased to receive visitors , because whilst their number added to the dignity of the lodge they also gave an incentive to the Worshipful Master

and the officers to perform the duties with a little more care than they might otherwise do . They had a long list of visitors present , but he would call on Bros . Acworth , P . G . Treas . Essex ; Gallaher , Hayes , Dr . Goddard , and Dodson to respond . The toast was heartily drunk and ' replied to , after which the W . M . proposed " The Past Masters of the Lodge , " and

referred in eulogistic terms to the services the various Past Masters had given to the lodge , mentioning in particular the services ot Bro . Edgar Bowyer , the first Master . The W . M . also alluded to the services of Bro . John Barneti , jun ., I . P . M ., who had performed every ] ceremony which had come before him in a most masterly way , culminating in the installation ceremony . While they had such Past

Masters in the Highbury Lodge it must continue to prosper . Bro . Barnett , in responding , said the Highbury Lodge had never been opened without his being present . He had done the work to the best of his ability , and if it had been done to the satisfaction of the brethren with whom he had been associated he was perfectly satisfied .

Bro . Hastings Miller also replied . He said there was only sincerity in his heart with regard to Masonry . He had done all he could for that grand and glorious cause . As one of its founders he took great interest in the lodge , and it had given him great pleasu re to seeB ro . Barnett pass through the chair . He had been one of the best Masters of the lodge , and the brethren were very proud of him , and hoped

he would be spared for many years . The Worshipful Master next proposed the toast of "The Officers , " and in doing - so said that unless the W . M . was supported by his officers the ceremonies fell Hat . They were favoured with very good officers . In the S . W ., Bro .

James Terry , they had a brother whose services in Masonry might not be equalled , and certainly could not be excelled by any brother in the Craft . Bro . Shurmur , the J . W ., was an excellent Mason , and so were the other officers . Bros . James Terry and Shurmur replied , and the Tyler ' s toast closed the proceedings .

PROVINCIAL MEETINGS . BARNET . Gladsmuir Lodge ( No . 1385 ) . — The last regular meeting of the year was held at the Red Lion Hotel , on Friday , the 27 th ult . The W . M ., Bro . J . E . which was won by Bro . Mason . A Past Master ' s jewel was voted to the W . M ., to be presented to him on his vacation of the chair in January next , and the motion to contribute as usual towards the Provincial calendar was agreed to . The by-laws having been read and the other business transacted , the brethren dined together , and spent a short but pleasant evening .

Lodge was opened , the minutes confirmed , and the audit

report adopted . Messrs . J . A . Coldwells and R . Croft were then impressively initiated into Freemasonry by the W . M ., who afterwards installed Bro . H . E . Vickers as Worshipful Master . The following officers were appointed Bros . H . Burgess , S . W . ; A . J . Harris , J . W . ; Dr . H . G . Thompson , P . M ., Treas . ; A . Lambert , P . M ., Sec ; J .

sented a handsome banner to the lodge , and was accorded a hearty vote of thanks . Other business was transacted , and the lodge was formally closed . After banquet the usual toasts were honoured in a cordial manner .

Bro . F . West , Dep . Prov . G . M ., replied for "The Grand Officers . " He said he was always proud to be called upon o respond to that toast , and he hoped the Grand Officers deserved a few of the kind expressions one heard from time to time in Masonic lodges , and uttered by none more sincerely than in the Addiscombe Lodge . He hoped the day was very far distant when the Grand Officers would

not be regarded with the same amount of respect . The M . W . Grand Master had set an example which it was the duty of every Mason—and particularly of those who had received the patronage of the Grand Master—to follow . He could say the M . W . Grand Master had no more loyal hody of men with whom he came into contact than the Grand Officers , and anything they could do to maintain the

Masonic Order in which his Royal Highness felt so great an interest , not only would they deem it a privilege , but a great pleasure to do . It was very pleasant to be present to witness the installation of Bro . Vickers into the chair of that highly respected lodge . It was a double pleasure , as they had seen a new ruler installed and had seen others take their first step in Masonry . He was only echoing the

sentiments of his distinguished chief in wishing the Worshipful Master a prosperous year of office . The Worshipful Master proposed " The R . W . Provincial Grand Master , " and tendered Bro . Col . Noel Money a hearty welcome to their lodge . There was a large province to look over , and it must be a considerable time before the Prov . Grand Master was acquainted with them all .

Bro . Col . Noel Money , Prov . G . M ., returned thanks , and said it was a very great pleasure to attend and see so flourishing a lodge and the work so well performed . He congratulated Bro . Vickers most heartily as Worshipful Master for the ensuing year , and was sure that under his gavel the lodge would prosper . He had not yet been able to visit all the lodges , but hoped that when he

had done so , he should be able to give the good report prophesied by the Worshipful Master , but if all the lodges were as healthy looking as this , he should indeed have a flourishing report to make . He could not let that occasion pass without thanking the Addiscombe Lodge for its work as one of the entertaining lodges at his installation . A more successful installation in the way of arrangements

had seldom been seen , judging from the remarks he had heard made . It was a great pleasure to be able to thank them personally , and especially the Secretary , for their efforts as one of the entertaining lodges . In giving "The D . P . G . M . and the rest of the Prov . G . Officers , Present and Past , " the W . M . referred to the excellent work , done by Bro . West as D . P . G . M . in charge ,

and said that the healthy condition of the province was in a great measure due to him . Bro . S . Lambert , P . P . G . R ., acknowledged the toast in an appropriate speech . Bro . W . G . Fenn , I . P . M ., proposed "The Worshipful Master , " and said the members heartily welcomed Bro . Vickers into the chair of that lodge . They all wished him a most successful year of office , and were sure he would

conduct the affairs of the lodge in a manner satifactory to the lodge and the brethren . As time was short and there was a long programme of music , he would simply ask the brethren to heartily drink the toast . Bro . H . E . Vickers , W . M ., thanked the l . P . M . and brethren , and said he did not deserve all the kind things said of him . It would be difficult for him to emulate the

example of the Past Masters , but he would do his best . To preside over so flourishing a lodge naturally made one anxious , but he knew the Past Masters would assist him if he required it . Ever since he first joined that lodge it had been his ambition to reach the chair . He hoped he should not disgrace the post , and it would not be his fault if the coming year was not as prosperous as that of the l . P . M .

"the Initiates' was next honoured , after wtuch the Worshipful Master proposed " The Health of the I . P . M ., " and congratulated him on his successful year . Bro . W . G . Fenn , I . P . M ., in response , said that during his year he had had the utmost pleasure in presiding over the lodge . There had been no year since the existence of the lodge when so many new members had been admitted . He

thanked them for the hearty way they had seconded his efforts for the benefit of the lodge , and he hoped they would do in the coming year what they had in the past to maintain the prestige of the lodge . He also thanked them lor the handsome jewel presented to him , which he should ever regard as a memento of a pleasant year of office .

Bros . Hearson and Ward replied for "The Visitors , " and other toasts having been given , the Tyler ' s toast terminated the proceedings . Bro . J . Rhodes , P . P . G . O ., directed the musical arrangements , which included a violin solo , " Mellodie d'Amour , " composed by himself expressly for the occassion . Amongst those who assisted were Bros . G . Everist , P . M ., T . Morey , J . A . Coldwells , J . J . Pittman , and others .

GA TESHEAD-ON-TYNE . Industry Lodge ( No . 48 ) . —The regular meeting of this ancient and prosperous lodge was held on Monday , the 23 rd ult ., at the Masonic Hall , when there was , as usual , a goodly muster of members and visitors and plenty of work to do . The W . M ., Bro . Wm . Richardson , presided , and was supported and assisted by Bros . Wm .

years to do his best for the Craft , and he was certain that every Grand Officer had done the same . Bro .

M ., as unanimously re-elected Treasurer , while Bro . Goddard was re-appointed Tyler by show of hands . A ballot was also taken for a Life-Governorship to one of the Institutions ,

which was won by Bro . Mason . A Past Master ' s jewel was voted to the W . M ., to be presented to him on his vacation of the chair in January next , and the motion to contribute as usual towards the Provincial calendar was agreed to . The by-laws having been read and the other business transacted , the brethren dined together , and spent a short but pleasant evening .

sented a handsome banner to the lodge , and was accorded a hearty vote of thanks .
