sidered the toast of the evening ' , " The Health of the W . M ., " and in doing so paid the Master a well-deserved compliment , and predicted a very successful year for the lodge under Bro . Harper ' s guidance . " The Visitors '" toast was responded to by nearly all those present . The W . M . then proposed " The Health of the l . P . M .

and Installing Master . He said , under Bro . Tidmarsh ' s rule the lodge had been brought to a state of high efficiency , and its members had spent a very happy and prosperous year . The working had been invariably good , and the manner in which he had installed his successor that evening would not be soon forgotten by those privileged to witness it . The retiring Master had gained the admiration ,

esteem , and it might be said without exaggeration , the love and affection of the brethren . The presentations already made that afternoon were proofs of this . But , as a further mark of their appreciation , he had now to offer for Bro . Tidmarsh ' s acceptance a portrait of himself in Masonic costume . The brethren had chosen this particular form of present because they thought it would be also valued by

Mrs . Tidmarsh , to whom and to their dear l . P . M . they wished long life and continued happiness . A very handsomely framed portrait was then uncovered amidst cheers . Bro . Tidmarsh , on rising to respond , was very warmly received . He expressed his utter inability to sufficiently thank the brethren for this additional proof of their goodwill and regard . He had no idea that such a presentation

was being prepared , yet he was not going to oblige them by saying it was the surprise that they evidently intended it to be . The brethren had so often gone out of their way to show him kindness that nothing in that direction could come ' as a surprise to him . As regarded his Mastership , he could only claim to have done his duty to the very best of his

ability , and that his work had been crowned with so large a measure of success was partly owing to that already accomplished by his predecessors in the chair . He was very grateful to the VV . M . for the kindly reference to his good wife in connection with the presentation , and on her behalf and on his own he cordially reciprocated their very kind wishes .

The Provincial Grand Master delivered a very interesting address to the brethren , and congratulated the Worshipful Master and his officers upon the efficient manner in which they had performed their duties . The Worshipful Master gave notice of his intention of moving at the next meeting that Mr . James Tyler be balloted for , and if elected , initiated .

Henry Garrod , P . G . S . B ., officiating as Installing Principal , when Comps . VV . G . Hildreth , Frederick Carr , and R . S . dishing were respectively installed into the

chairs of Z ., H ., and J . The subordinate officers invested were Comps . G . J . Row , P . Z ., Treas . ; H . T . Thompson , P . Z ., S . E . ; Osterstock , S . N . ; Hewett , P . DONCASTER . Magdalen Chapter ( No . 242 ) . —A convocation of this chapter was held in the Masonic Rooms , when Comp . Walker , P . Z ., in the absence of Comp . Bellerby , / .., occupied the First chair , supported by Comp . Ogle , as

SHIPLEY . Moravian Chapter ( No . 387 ) . —A regular convocation of this chapter was held at the Masonic Rooms , Saltaire Institute , on Monday , the 23 rd ult ., when Comp . Wm . Oddy , Z ., was supported by Comps . J . L . Atherton , Prov . G . H ., H . ; John Tillotson , J . ; T . Denby , P . Z ., Treas . ; John T . Last , as S . E . ; T . M . Holmes , P . Z ., as

S . N . j Dr . McGregor , Slicer , and others . After the minutes of the previous meeting had been read and confirmed , the ballot was taken for Bros . Dr . Wm . R . Bates , P . M ., and John Illingworth , J . W ., both of No . 1522 , which proving unanimous in their favour they and also Bro . John 1 illotson , P . M . 439 , who had been elected at a previous meeting , were respectively exalted to the Supreme Degree ,

of a Royal Arch Mason by Comp . J . L . Atherton , P . G . H ., in his usual able manner , and he also explained the signs peculiar to the Degree to the candidates , but for lack of time the mystical lecture was deferred to a subsequent convocation of the chapter . Comp . Last acted as P . Sojourner . The ballot for officers for the ensuing year resulted in the election of Comp . J . L . Atherton , P . G . 11 ., as M . E . Z ., vnth

Comp . John Tillotson , H ., and Comp . C . W . . Curran , J . Comp . Thos . Denby , P . Z ., was re-elected Treasurer . The sum of two guineas was granted out of the funds of the chapter towards the proposed Thomas William Tew Presentation to the Royal Masonic Benevolent Institution ,

for which a sum of 1200 guineas is being raised in the province . Two propositions were received for exaltation , and a resolution passed for an emergency chapter to be held to deal with current business . The chapter was afterwards closed , and the rest of the evening was devoted to refreshment .

D . C , W . M . elect , was placed in the chair of A . by Bro . A . H . Bateman , P . M ., P . P . G . M . O . Bro . V . Heaps , P . G . I . G ., W . M ., opened the lodge , and ,

after the minutes of the previous meeting had been confirmed , vacated the chair in favour of Bro . Bateman , who , as Installing Officer , performed the ceremony of installation admirably . The new W . M . invested his officers as follows : Bros . H . T . Crump , S . W . ; C Jolly , S . W . 226 , P . P . G . O ., J . W . ; W . O . Robinson , P . M ., P . P . G . D . Wood , P . M ., P . P . G . M . O ., in responding to the toast of " The Provincial Grand Officers , Present and Past , " said they were all sorry not to see the Prov . Grand Master , Bro . the Rev . T . Robinson , M . A ., present , and

also expressed the disappointment of the brethren at the absence , through unavoidable circumstances , of their respected Deputy Provincial Grand Master , Bro . the Rev . Hayman Cummings , who had promised to attend , but at the last moment found it impossible to do so . On behalf of the Grand Officers , he thanked them for their hearty reception of the toast .

Bro . Heaps , I . P . M ., then proposed the toast of " The Worshipful Master , " and said that Bro . Blaxland was well known to most of them for his ability as a worker both in the Craft and Mark lodges held at Belvedere . He was exceedingly proud to see . Bro . Blaxland in the chair , and cordially wished him a good and prosperous year of office . Bro . Blaxland thanked them for placing him in the chair

of the lodge . As he lived some distance away from Belvedere , he felt at first that he could hardly undertake the duties of the position ; but Bro . Bateman kindly wrote and told him that at any time he was unable to attend , he , Bro . Bateman , would do the necessary work for him , and therefore under that kind indulgence he had decided to accept the kind offer of Bro . Bateman and take the chair .

HeFspoke highly of the able manner in which Bro . Bateman had carried out the duties of Installing Officer , and also of the abilities of Bro . Heaps in the chair , and sincerely trufted to emulate the latter , and so win their approbation at the expiration of his year of office . Bro . Heaps , in responding for "The Past Masters , " said all he could say was that he was sorry that he did not join Masonry twenty-live years ago . He thanked the

Past Masters and officers for their unceasing kindness and assistance to him while in the chair , and could assure them that he should support their VV . M . in the same manner that he had been supported , and try all in his power to make his reign a pleasant one . Bro . Trail , W . M . 433 , responded for "The Visitors , " Bros . Crump and jolly for " The Officers , " and then , after a pleasant evening , the brethren separated .

'I he W . M . having that week lost his muther by death , after a lingering illness , a vote of condolence was passed , and the Secretary was directed to forward the same to Bro . Simm . nds . A Past Master's jewel having been voted to the VV . M ., apologies for non-attendance were received from Bros . VV . Fisher , P . M . ; George Everett , J . O . ; D . P .

Cama , W . VV . Westley , and others . The lodge was then closed , and the brethren adjourned to refreshment . A few toasts followed . Bro . Norman having volunteered to act as the candidate , was examined , entrusted , and retired from the lodge , which was then opened in the Third Degree , and the candidate re-admitted , when

the W . M . rehearsed the ceremony of raising . The lodge was resumed in the First Degree . Bro . W . H . Kirby worked the 5 th Section of the First Lecture . Bro . H . Sadler was unanimously elected W . M . for the 10 th instant , and having appointed his officers , announced that the work would be the ceremony of passing , an explanation of the tracing board , and the 6 th Section of the First Lecture . M ., for so ably performing the duties , being the first time in this lodge . All Masonic business over , the lodge was closed .

Read worked the Second Sectioii of ' the lecture , assisted by the brethren . A vote of thanks was unanimously passed to the brethren who had presented the collars , also to Bro . Cuff . A letter was read from Bro . Curtis . 1 ' he brethren entitled to vote at the Quarterly Communication of Grand Lodge promised their support to Bro . G . Read for the Board of Benevolence . Alter " Hearty good wishes " the lodge was closed .

was being prepared , yet he was not going to oblige them by saying it was the surprise that they evidently intended it to be . The brethren had so often gone out of their way to show him kindness that nothing in that direction could come ' as a surprise to him . As regarded his Mastership , he could only claim to have done his duty to the very best of his

ability , and that his work had been crowned with so large a measure of success was partly owing to that already accomplished by his predecessors in the chair . He was very grateful to the VV . M . for the kindly reference to his good wife in connection with the presentation , and on her behalf and on his own he cordially reciprocated their very kind wishes .

Hayman Cummings , who had promised to attend , but at the last moment found it impossible to do so . On behalf of the Grand Officers , he thanked them for their hearty reception of the toast .

Bro . Heaps , I . P . M ., then proposed the toast of " The Worshipful Master , " and said that Bro . Blaxland was well known to most of them for his ability as a worker both in the Craft and Mark lodges held at Belvedere . He was exceedingly proud to see . Bro . Blaxland in the chair , and cordially wished him a good and prosperous year of office . Bro . Blaxland thanked them for placing him in the chair

of the lodge . As he lived some distance away from Belvedere , he felt at first that he could hardly undertake the duties of the position ; but Bro . Bateman kindly wrote and told him that at any time he was unable to attend , he , Bro . Bateman , would do the necessary work for him , and therefore under that kind indulgence he had decided to accept the kind offer of Bro . Bateman and take the chair .

HeFspoke highly of the able manner in which Bro . Bateman had carried out the duties of Installing Officer , and also of the abilities of Bro . Heaps in the chair , and sincerely trufted to emulate the latter , and so win their approbation at the expiration of his year of office . Bro . Heaps , in responding for "The Past Masters , " said all he could say was that he was sorry that he did not join Masonry twenty-live years ago . He thanked the

Past Masters and officers for their unceasing kindness and assistance to him while in the chair , and could assure them that he should support their VV .
