sidered the toast of the evening ' , " The Health of the W . M ., " and in doing so paid the Master a well-deserved compliment , and predicted a very successful year for the lodge under Bro . Harper ' s guidance . " The Visitors '" toast was responded to by nearly all those present . The W . M . then proposed " The Health of the l . P . M .
and Installing Master . He said , under Bro . Tidmarsh ' s rule the lodge had been brought to a state of high efficiency , and its members had spent a very happy and prosperous year . The working had been invariably good , and the manner in which he had installed his successor that evening would not be soon forgotten by those privileged to witness it . The retiring Master had gained the admiration ,
esteem , and it might be said without exaggeration , the love and affection of the brethren . The presentations already made that afternoon were proofs of this . But , as a further mark of their appreciation , he had now to offer for Bro . Tidmarsh ' s acceptance a portrait of himself in Masonic costume . The brethren had chosen this particular form of present because they thought it would be also valued by
Mrs . Tidmarsh , to whom and to their dear l . P . M . they wished long life and continued happiness . A very handsomely framed portrait was then uncovered amidst cheers . Bro . Tidmarsh , on rising to respond , was very warmly received . He expressed his utter inability to sufficiently thank the brethren for this additional proof of their goodwill and regard . He had no idea that such a presentation
was being prepared , yet he was not going to oblige them by saying it was the surprise that they evidently intended it to be . The brethren had so often gone out of their way to show him kindness that nothing in that direction could come ' as a surprise to him . As regarded his Mastership , he could only claim to have done his duty to the very best of his
ability , and that his work had been crowned with so large a measure of success was partly owing to that already accomplished by his predecessors in the chair . He was very grateful to the VV . M . for the kindly reference to his good wife in connection with the presentation , and on her behalf and on his own he cordially reciprocated their very kind wishes .
