the new ship on the ocean of Masonry . It would be ungrateful to conclude without thanking the excellent brethren who had assisted him . Bro . the Rev . J . S . Brownrigg was always a tower of strength , and had assisted him on many occasions . The other brethren who had assisted him so excellently were Bros . Hansard and Driver , Ebbetts and Blashill , and he thanked them one and all most heartily . On behalf of himself and colleagues he thanked

the W . M . and brethren for their kind reception , and assured them it was a great p leasure to be present and start the lodge , at which they wished all possible success in the future . Bro . ] . GRIFFIN , P . M . ( I . C . ) , responded for "The Visitors , " and said he felt exceedingly gratified at what he had seen . That was the first time he had seen the light of working of English Masonry , and he had had a

great desire to hear it . He was peculiarly fortunate in being present on such an occasion , for which he had to thank his distinguished brother on his left . If any English Mason visited Ireland they would find a hearty Masonic Irish welcome . Bros . COLE ADAMS , HUDSON , and CHAPMAN also replied .

"The Officers " was given , and the Tyler ' s toast then closed the proceedings . The musical arrangements were in the hands of Bro . John Read , P . P G . Org . Middx ., who was assisted by Miss Alice Howard , Miss Annie Wilson , Mrs . Read , Bros . H . T . Dutton , L . Fryer , and T . Kempton .

CONSECRATION OF THE BALDWIN CHAPTER , No . 1398 .

On Saturday , the 21 st ult ., the consecration of a Royal Arch chapter in connection with the Baldwin Lodge , No . 1398 , took p lace at Dalton . The consecration ceremony was very impressively performed by Comp . Goodacre , P . G . Std . Br . England , assisted by Comps . Case , P . P . G . J . ; McNallv ,

P . G . S . N . ; Murray , P . P . G . Treas . ; and C . E . Hindley , P . P . A . G . S . E . After the ceremony of consecration , Comp . W . J . A . Baldwin was elected First Principal ; Comp . W . Whiteside , Second Principal ; Comp . Townley , Third Principal ; and the other officers were appointed as follows : ' Comps . W . G . Whiteside , S . E . ; M . Kennedy , Treas . ; Harry Gordon Smith ,

S . N . ; W . Baunber , P . S . ; W . Mandall , 1 st A . S . ; Geo . Nelson , 2 nd A . S . ; and John Robinson , Janitor . Afterwards the companions adjourned to the Cavendish Hotel , where-Mrs . Munroe had provided a most sumptuous banquet . The usual loyal and Masonic toasts were proposed and responded to in a truly Masonic manner .

After the formal opening ol Grand Lodge , and the reading and confirmation of the minutes of Quarterly Communication of September , the following report of the General Board was , on the motion of Bro . A . B . COOK , seconded by Bro . R . BERRIDGE , taken as read , received , and ordered to be entered on the minutes : —

During the three months ending 30 th September , 1 S 91 , there have been issued : Mark certificates , 236 ) total number registered , 28 , 759 . Warrants for new lodges , four , viz .:

No . 434 , Stuart , Bedford . ,, 435 , Panmure , East London , Cape Colony , South Africa . ,, 43 6 , Edaljee Khory , Singapore , Straits Settlements .

„ 437 , Pyramid , Barkley East , Cape Colony , South Africa . Royal Ark Mariners certificates , no ; total number registered 3472 , and a warrant for the Buffalo River Lodge to be attached to the Panmure Lodge , No . 435 .

His Royal Highness the Prince of Wales , M . W . G . M ., has been pleased to appoint R W . Bro . Colonel John Elliott , C . B ., C . M . G ., to be District Grand Master for the West Indian Islands ( Barbados , Curacoa , St . Thomas , and Georgetown , Demerara ) , and R . W . Bro . Colonel George Singleton Tudor has been reappointed Provincial Grand Master for Staffordshire for a further term of three years .

The Provincial Grand Master of Cornwall having in error appointed Bro . James Lovell to the office of Provincial Grand Master Overseer , the said brother not having served as Warden of a lodge ( Article 81 , Book of Constitutions ) , the Board rule that the appointment is cancelled , and Bro . James Lovell is not permitted to assume the rank or wear the clothing of Provincial Grand Overseer .

The Provincial Grand Master of Cheshire having inadvertently appointed Bro . Peter Duff to the office of Provincial Grand Senior Overseer , and Bro . Francis S . Moore to the office of Provincial Grand Junior Overseer , the said brethren not

having served the office of Warden ( Article 81 , Book of Constitutions ) , the Board have in this case also ruled that the appointments must be cancelled , and that Bros . Peter Duff and Francis S . Moore cannot assume the rank or wear the clothing of Provincial Grand Overseers .

FUND OF BENEVOLENCE . The Board have elected without a poll the whole of the candidates for educational grants as follows : Dora L . Pulley , Elizabeth Prince , Francis Thomas Prince , Frederick R . Sale , and Margaret Cochrane , making 16 boys and 17 girls now being educated . >

Stwd ., then said he rose with a great deal of pleasure to perform a duly which he knew would be acceptable

to all—he rose to nominate -and he believed it was only a formality—his Royal Highness the Prince of Wales as M . W . G . M . of Mark Master Masons of England and Wales and the Colonics and Dependencies of the British Crown for the ensuing 12 months . It would be quite needless on his

part , even if he were able , to expatiate on the many sterling qualities possessed b y his Royal Hi ghness the Grand Master ; they were as well known to the brethren as to him ( Bro . Markham ) . They knew that whatever the Prince of Wales took in hand to do he did well , and in

no case was this fact more generall y proved than in his identification with Freemasonry . His Royal Hi ghness had presided over the Order for many years and during that period he had proved himself to be as efficient as he was a popular Grand Master . He felt he was expressing not only his own opinion but that of every member of Grand Mark Lodge and of every

Mason when he said he hoped that he would long be spared to hold watch and guard over Masonic interests . ( A pplause . ) While speaking of his Royal Hi ghness he might be permitted to allude—and he did so very briefl y —to one subject ; all Masons participated with the Prince of Wales in the trouble and anxiety which he had undergone in consequence of the serious

illness of a member of his Royal Hi ghness ' s family . He was sure the sympathy of every Mason in England and in its Dependencies would have been extended to his Royal Highness in the ordeal through which he had

passed , and they would all rejoice when the cause for that anxiety had ceased . ( Hear , hear . ) He begged formally to nominate his Royal Hi ghness the Prince of Wales as M . W . Grand Master of Mark Masonry for the ensuing 12 months . ( Cheers ) .

Bro . GORDON MILLER , Grand Treasurer , had much pleasure in nominating Bro . Sir Augustus Harris for the position of Grand Treasurer for the ensuing year . Bro . Sir Augustus Harris was advanced in Mark Masonry in the Old Kent Lodge ; he was a founder of the Grafton Lodge , in which " he

served as W . M . during iis second year . He need not allude to Bro . Sir Augustus Harris ' s valuable services in connection with Masonry in general , and Grand Craft Lodge in particular , but he would simply nominate him lor the position of Grand Treasurer during the ensuing year .

Bro . W . W . B . BEACH announced that the Charity jewels would be presented in the Grand Secretary ' s room to those brethren who were present , and those brethren who were not present would have them forwarded to them b y post . Grand Lodge was then closed .
