At the conclusion of the banquet which followed , the usual loyal toasts were duly proposed and responded to .

The W . M . then proposed " The Health of the R . W . Prov . G . M ., Bro . the Earl of Onslow , G . C . M . G ., and the W . Bro . West , P . G . D ., Dep . Prov . G . M ., " in eulogistic terms .

Bro . West , in responding , expressed his regret at the absence of the Prov . Grand Master , and , in thanking the brethren , he said he was glad to see around him so many distinguished members . The Addiscombe Lodge appeared to him to be a very fair recruiting ground for the province , and he must add that no one more deserved the honour recently conferred upon him than their late W . M ., Bro . Edridge , not only for the excellent way he did the ritual , but also for his Charity and hospitality . He also had initiated that evening a second Chief Magistrate of Croydon .

Bro . Chas . T . Tyler , P . M ., Prov . G . The I . P . In their Mayor they had one whom they appreciated , and who would doubtless do honour to the lodge and to all the Masonic Institutions . The Mayor ( Bro . However , I have reverence for the Craft , and hope to come up to some of the expectations expressed by the I . P . M . Therefore you will perhaps permit me to express my opinions more clearly on a future occasion .

The W . M ., in proposing "The Health of the Past Masters , " stated that no W . M , could have done more for the Craft than had Bro . Edridge—his hospitality had been unbounded . On the occasion of the recent visit of the Prince and Princess of Wales , he did not forget "the Old People , " he gave them the opportunity of comfortaably viewing the M . W . G . M . ' and his gracious Consort , and not only this , he provided them with good cheer , and later on in the evening a tea and entertainment in their own

Institution ; all tdmired the kindly way in which it was done . Then , they knew what he had done for the lodge , the increase in its members and its funds . M ., in returning thanks , said you have heard me so often that I musLnow he silent , but my silence must not be taken as any want of interest .

Bro . Chumley , P . M ., said his best services were always at the disposal of the Addiscombe Lodge . Bro . Dr . Parsons Smith , P . M . said that as one of the founders and the oldest P . M ., he believed he had attended every installation of the Addiscombe Lodge . Fromsmall beginnings in early days it had gone on and prospered and was worthy of being in the from rank of Masonry . He was sure that those of the fossils who were left would always be ready to fill a gap if required . The toast of " The Visitors " was replied to by Bros . Rymer and Hammond in suitable

terms . The Secretary , Bro . A . Lambert , who is evidently extremely popular stated in reply to his health being proposed that he could only thank them heartily and assure them that although the work was tenfold heavier than when he took the office , he meant sticking to it ; his services were a labour of love . The Tyler's toast terminated a very pleasant and enjoyable evening .

The three addresses by the Installing Master were delivered in masterly style , and received the warm approbation of the biethren . The lodge was closed , and the brethren adjourned to the Victoria Hall , where an excellent banquet was provided . The usual loyal toasts were given and heartily responded to by the brethren .

"The M . W . Pro G . M ., the Deputy G . M ., and the rest of the Grand Officers , Present and Past , " was ably and tersely put by the W . M ., who said their services were too well known and appreciated by Freemasons to require any eulogiums on his part . The toast was duly honoured . The I . P . M . gave the toast of the evening— "The Health of the W . M . " In the course of his remarks , he said that the lodge was indeed proud of their new and

highlyesteemed W . M . Upon strong pressure being brought to bear upon him , he had consented at his advanced age to undertake the arduous and important duties of his important office . His high qualifications , experience , and energy—an example to the younger brethren—were well known and appreciated by all . In the name of the lotfge , he wished him a happy and prosperous year of office , with plenty of work , which he would undoubtedly accomplish most successfully . He begged to assure him , as I . P . M ., of his sincere respect and admiration .

The toast was most enthusiastically received . The W . M ., in reply , said he heartily thanked the I . P . M . and the brethren for the warm expressions of their regard . He had , in fact , at first doubted whether he ought to undertake the dignified post that had been assigned to him , feeling that he ought to retire in favour of a younger man , but he was so strongly urged by the Past Masters , and the influential brethren of the lodge , that he yielded to their solicitations , and consented

to become their W . M . for the ensuing year . He could assure the brethren that their unanimous kindness was fully appreciated by him , and should his present good health be maintained , he would do his utmost to justify the choice they had made . The W . M . then said that it was a pleasing duty to him to present the Past Master ' s jewel voted by the lodge to the I . P . M ., and trusted that that mark of appreciation of his services would be for many years worn by him . He gave his health in a few well-chosen words . The I . P . M , replied , thanking the brethren for the honour conferred upon him .

The next toast was that of "The Installing Master , " coupled with the Past Masters of the lodge . The W . M , said that he was sure that the way in which the Installing Master performed his duty , must have been highly appreciated by all present . As to thePast Masters , their services were too well-known to all for any needless details . The toast was well received and responded to by the I . P . M . and the Past Masters .

Then came "The Visitors , " "The I reasurer and Secretary , " and " The Officers , " all of which received merited honour , and were duly acknowledged . The Tyler ' s toast terminated this brilliant and successful meeting . The musical entertainment was under the direction of the Organist , Bro . J . Lf . igh , The artistes were Miss Spells , Bros . Webb , T . Best-Folkes , and Prof . F . W . Driver , who recited an original poem . The accompanist was Bro . F . Kinkee .

When the W . M . rose to reply he received a most enthusiastic ovation . He thanked the I . P . M . for the kind manner in which he had spoken of him ; that he ( the W . M , thoroughly reciprocated the kind sentiments entertained by his friend and brother , the I . P . M ., and , in affixing the Past Master ' s jewel on his breast , said it was indeed a pleasure to him as W . M . to evince in such a satisfactory manner the high esteem in which he was held by the brethren and himself .

In reply , the I . P . M ., Bro . Huish , said he thanked the brethren for the handsome jewel and for the great kindness he had received from all the members of the lodge during his year of office . The toast of " The Visitors " commended itself to the brethren . It was responded to by several brethren , one of whom was Bro . J . Leonard , hailing from Cape Town . The next toast was that of "The Treasurer and Secretary , " ably responded to by Bros . Parkhouse and Reuben Green . " The Past Masters , " "The Officers , " and the Tyler ' s toast brought this brilliant and delightful meeting to a close .

The selection of music was under the able direction of Bro . Fredk . King , and gave general satisfaction .

Aldersgate Lodge , No . 1657 . PRESENTATION TO BRO . W . R . BRUNSKILL BRISCOE , S . W . A meeting was held on Monday , the 30 th ultimo , at the Albion Tavern , Aldersgatestreet . Present : Bros . Septimus Croft , W . M . ; James Shotter , I . P . M . ; W . K . B , Briscoe , S . W . ; Thos . Briggs , J . W . ; George Kenning , P . M ., Sec . ; H . N . Bennett S . D . ; Rupert Smyth , J . D . ; Edward Anderton , P . M ., D . C ; C . R . R . Hopper , I . G . ; Arthur B . Hudson , P . M . ; Matthew R . Webb , P . M . ; lGeorge Rawlinson , P . M . ; and E . F . B . Fuller , P . M .

The brethren met together for the purpose of presenting an emblazoned testimonial to Bro . W . R . Brunskill Briscoe , S . W ., as follows : At a meeting of the above lodge , held on Monday , the 16 th ultimo , at the Albion Tavern , Aldersgate-street , the following resolution was proposed by the Worshipful Master , Bro . Septimus Croft , seconded by the Treasurer , Bro . Samuel White , P . M ., and carried unanimously : " The brethren of the Aldersgate Lodge , No . 1657 , deeply regret that circumstances will prevent Brother Senior Warden William Richard

Brunskill Briscoe from accepting the office of Worshipful Master of this lodge , after having so admirably filled the junior offices , and wish to congratulate him upon his appointment in Egypt , and beg to assure him that their goodwill and brotherly love will follow him wherever he may be—Bros . Sep'imus Croft , W . M . ; James Shotter , I . P . M . ; Thomas Briggs , J . W . ; Samuel White , P . M ., Treas . ; George Kenning , P . M . 192 and 1657 , P . Prov . G . D . Middx ., Sec ; Henry Nicholas Bennett , S . D . ; Rupert

SmythJ J . D . ; Clarence Raymond Richard Hopper , I . G . ; Edward Anderton , P . M ., D . C . ; Alderman Sir Joseph Renals , Bart ., P . M . ; Arthur B . Hudson , P . M . ; Matthew R . Webb , J . P ., P . M . ; John Larkin , P . M . ; George Rawlinson , P . M . ; W . S . Chapman , E . Campbell Pnilpot , Ralph Langton , Samuel George Clavdon Sansom , W . Bro . Sir John B . Monckton , F . S . A ., P . J . G . W . ; the Rev . P . M . Holden , P . P . G . Chap . Middx . ; W . Bro . his Honour Judge F . A . Philbrick , P . G . D ., G . Reg . ; and J . Gordon Langton , P . M . q 6 .

The W . M ., Bro . Septimus Croft , recalled the circumstances under which the resolution , as set out above , had been passed , and read the terms of it to the brethren . They had thought that it would be pleasant to have a special meeting of the lodge , at which to make the presentation to Bro . Briscoe , and to give him another opportunity of bidding them farewell . He and Bro . Briscoe had been at school together , and had known each other from boyhood . As Worshipful Master he had been very glad to have the assistance of Bro . Briscoe as his principal officer . He had attended steadily to his duties , and they had all hoped that in due course Bro . Briscoe would have succeeded

himself as W . M . But professional reasons had caused their brother to decide to take up his residence in Egypt ; the brethren of the lodge desired to give him Gjd-speed , to assure him that he had their hearty goodwill , and to wish him health , happiness , and prosperity , and a safe return . For that purpose they had sought to express their feelings in the terms of the resolution . Though absent , Bro . Briscoe would not be forgotten at their meetings , and if he took with him that beautifully-emblazoned testimonial , he would have something wherewith to remind himself of what , he hoped , had been to Bro . Briscoe a happy association with the lodge . He begged Bro . Briscoe to accept the testimonial as a mark of their sincere regard and brotherly love .

Craft Masonry.

F . Kinkee .

" in a feeling manner , stating that the W . M . and he had been comrades together in Masonry , and had progressed side by side . The brethren warmly responded to the toast .

" The Past Masters , " "The Officers , " and the Tyler ' s toast brought this brilliant and delightful meeting to a close .

Aldersgate Lodge , No . 1657 . PRESENTATION TO BRO . W . R . BRUNSKILL BRISCOE , S . W . A meeting was held on Monday , the 30 th ultimo , at the Albion Tavern , Aldersgatestreet . Present : Bros . Septimus Croft , W . M . ; James Shotter , I . P . M . ; W . K . B , Briscoe , S . W . ; Thos . Briggs , J . W . ; George Kenning , P . M ., Sec . ; H . N . Bennett S . D . ; Rupert Smyth , J .

The W .
