MASONIC CALENDAR AND DIRECTORY FOR THE PROVINCE OF MIDDLESEX , 1 S 92 . This excellent annual is edited by Bros . II . H . Room and VV . H . Lee , who , as Prov . Grand Secretary and Prov . G . S . E . respectively , are well able to do the thing thoroughly , and as a matter of fact have so done . This year ' s issue is the best of the series , having considerable more pages of

matter , and is well arranged . The rolls of the Past Provincial Grand Ofiicers of the Craft and Royal Arch , involving much labour in their preparation , will prove a most welcome and useful addition , and the statistics also , which are a feature of this handy guide , enable one to gauge the condition of the province with comparative ease . There are now 40 lodges and 1347 subscribing members in this most active Provincial Grand Lodge , being the largest number

yet registered of brethren . There are about four times the number of lodges now in the province than when it was formed in 1 S 70 , so the increase has been enormous during the past 20 years , and throughout that period there has been but the one Prov . Grand Master , and if the wishes of the members could be granted , Colonel Sir Francis Burdett will continue to exercise the duties as their honoured and respected ruler for another score of years , with the same zealous Prov . Grand Secretary .

on Bro . Hogard's list for the Royal Masonic Benevolent Institution . Propositions having been received , and letters of regret for non-attendance announced , the lodge was closed . After banquet the usual toasts were honoured . " The Oueen and the Craft" having been heartily received , the W . M . gave "H . R . H . the Prince of Wales , M . W . G . M ., " and said the feelings of grief that had been expressed all over the civilised world were exemplified by the emblems ol

mourning they wore , and which but feebly expressed their sorrow . They wished the members of the Royal Family health and strength to bear their sad bereavement . Bro . J . Terry , P . G . S . B ,, replying for "The Grand Ofiicers , " said the first public dut y which the Dep . G . M . had undertaken to perform since his appointment was the chairmanship of the Jubilee Festival of the Royal Masonic Benevolent Institution . At the present juncture of Grand

Lodge , through the lamented death of the Grand Secretary , there were certain officers of Grand Lodge who were daily attending and discharging the duties in an exemplary manner . On behalf of the Grand Officers , he thanked the brethren for the compliment paid them and the honour conferred . Bro . S . Dancyger , I . P . M ., proposed "ihe Worshipful Master , " and said that if he were to occupy many hours

it would not be sufficient to speak of the merits of Bro . Bash , W . M . fie had much pleasure in saying that thc Worshipful Master and himself were initiated on the same night and had worked hand in hand together , and he was sure the lodge would be pleased and satisfied with the work their W . M . would do . Their newly-installed VV . M . was a good man and a good Freemason , and would shed some lustre on the Israel Lodge .

Bro . Maurice Bash , W . M ., thanked the I . P . M . and brethren heartily , and assured them he would do the utmost in his power to give them satisfaction , so that at the end of his year they would not regret having elected him as their Worshipful Master . "The Alasonic Charities and the Lodge Benevolent Fund " was the next toast given , coupled with the namesof Bros . J . Terry , Sec . R . M . B . I ., and A . M . Cohen , P . M .,

Treasurer . Bro . J . Terry , Sec . R . M . B . I ., replied for the first portion of the toast , and asked the brethren to remember what thc Secretary , Uro . Hogard , had done for the lodge , and support him in his Stewardship for the Jubilee Festival of the Benevolent Institution . I le thanked them for the sum of 10 guineas voted in the lodge , and wished the Institution he represented was in the same condition as the lodge

Benevolent I'und as far as regards funds . There were now 140 seeking admission to the Benevolent Institution and but 27 vacancies , which was an enormous disproportion . He was in hopes that such an amount would be raised as lo justif y the Committee in returning all the candidates . At the next election there were two widows of former members of this lodge seeking admission , and he therefore hoped the brethren would enable Bro . Hogard to take up a substantial amount on his list .

Bro . A . M . Cohen , P . M ., Ireasurer , replied on behalf of the lodge Benevolent Fund , observing that he knew of several cases likely to come forward for relief . He appealed strongly to the brethren for funds , as no applicant was sent away unrelieved if worthy . Uro . Bloomfield , W . M . 1 S 5 , responded for " The Visitors , " and returned thanks for the hjspitable manner in which they had been received .

Bro . James Stevens , P . M ., expressed his appreciation of tbe admirable manner in which the work had been conducted . As an old Mason and one with a great am junt of experience he had never heard the addresses delivered in a more effective or more admirable manner than as given bv the I . P . M . Bro . M . J . Jessop , P . M ., also replied , and said it was his fate to lie elected Worshipful Master of a ljclge three

years ago when he told one of the ollicers that he could not advance him , and as he was in the same position in another lodge asked him if he would mind being put hack one place in ollice . He had never had the opportunity of thanking the VV . M ., Bro . Bash , for that act ot kindness , but he had much pleasure in doing so on the presentoccasion , for good

as it was to know the ritual of r reemasonry , that which he had related was true Fieemasonry and Freemasonry from the heart . " The Past Masters , Treasurer , and Secretary " and " The Oflicers " were given , after which the Tyler ' s toast brought the proceedings to a close .
