The lodge meeting was held at the Masonic Hall ,

and no one who had seen the working in the lodge during his year of office but must admit that he had fully redeemed the promise made by him at his installation , to follow in the footsteps of those Masters who had preceded him ; and he felt sure they would all agree with him that Bro . Warren would leave that chair at the end of his year of office with the esteem and admiration of every one of

the brethren , and without a shadow on the honour and bri ghtness with which he went into it . The toast was urunk with enthusiasm , and , in reply , Bro . Warren thanked them for the compliment paid him . When he first took possession of the chair , some six months ago , he felt that he had a most responsible duty to perform , and now that he had , so to speak , passed the

meridian of his year of office , he felt that he had honestly tried to do that duty . It was for them to decide whether he had done it to their satisfaction or not . The kind and cordial manner with which they always ¦ ece ' ued the toast of his health led him to think that they appreciated his efforts , and that was his greatest pleasure .

Partridge and E . G . Portlock . After the minutes were read and confirmed the notice convening Grand Lodge for the 3 rd March was read , also a circular letter from the Grand Secretary with reference to the wearing of the Charity jewel , which was ordered to be entered on the minutes . A circular letter wan also read from . Bro . Gwinnett , P . P . G . S . W . Glos ., requesting the cc-operation of the

W . M . and brethren in promoting the success of the testimonial to be presented to Bro . Trinder , who has now been P . G . S . for Glos . for nearly twenty-five years . A letter was read from the Chaplain , Bro . Rev . C . R . Davy , P . G . S ., excusing his absence . Ballots were then taken for Mr . John William Warland and Mr . John Hooper as candidates for initiation , which were declared

unanimously in their favour . Mr . Hooper was not present , but Mr . J . Helmsley Hunt , who was balloted for and elected at the last meeting , being present , with Mr . Warland , they were both initiated , the ceremony being performed most impressively by the W . M . ; and Bro . William Clifford , J . W ., afterwards delivered the Lecture 011 the Tracing Board in a very able and effective

maimer . The W . M . then informed the lodge that he had received a requisition from several members , asking that a lodge of instruction might be held in connection with this lodge , and as he considered it a very desirable thing , he moved that , in accordance with the requirements of the Book of Constitutions , the sanctum of the lodge be given to such lodge of instruction , to be

held once a fortnight . This being seconded by Bro . Clifford , J . W ., was unanimously agreed to . The W . M . then informed the lodge that the time was approaching when the lodge generally gave subscriptions to the Masonic Schools , and , having stated that in his opinion , anil he believed in that of many other brethren , it was not policy to give small subscriptions of less than five guineas , which

only secured annual votes , and inasmuch as the lodge could not always afford to subscribe for life votes , he would move at the next meeting that the Treasurer be instructed , instead of sending subscriptions direct to the Masonic Charities , to pay a subscription of two guineas every half year to the Masonic Charity Association of this lodge , with a view to such subscriptions accumulating ,

and purchasing perpetual instead of annual votes to the Masonic Charities . Bro . Turner , S . W ., then proposed another candidate for ballot and initiation at the next lodge . There being no further business before the lodge , the same was closed in due form , and the brethren retired to supper , where , with the usual Masonic toasts , the healths of the newly-initiated brethren were drunk , and

responded to by Bros . Hunt and Warland , and Bro . Frank Millman , Secretary , led the " Entered Apprentice ' s Song " in a very able manner . Numerous inquiries were made after the worthy Treasurer , Bro . Llew . White , P . P . G . S . W . The lodge was then opened in the Third Degree , and the candidates , being re-admitted , were duly raised to the

Sublime Degree of M . M . by the W . M . The lodge was then closed down to the First Degree . A letter having been read from the P . G . S ., asking the brethren to appoint a brother to act as Steward at the ensuing festival of the Royal Masonic Benevolent Institution , it was proposed and resolved that Bro . J . W . Burgess , P . M ., Treas ., be appointed , and that the sum of £ 10 10 s . be placed upon

his list . The Secretary announced the receipt of a copy of the Freemason , and called the brethren ' s attention to the report of the Royal Masonic Benevolent Institution for Aged Freemasons , at which festival their P . just to this young Mason to state that the lecture was delivered with a clearness of enunciation and an attention to the rudiments of elocution that many an older student of the Masonic rituals might imitate with advantage . At the conclusion of the lecture a vote of thanks to Bro . Ockenden was given with acclamation , and ordered to be eniered on the minutes . Previously to the lodge being

expiessed their thanks to the W . M . for the very hospitable manner in which they had been received . They also each alluded to the lecture they had heard that evening , and the great gratification that that interesting and instructive recital had afforded them . "The Health of the Officers " came next in order , and this toast was acknowledged upon behalf of himself and colleagues by the S . W .

' The Masonic Charities " followed . In proposingthis toas the W . M . dwelt at length upon the excellences of those benevolent institutions , and the great necessity there was that the brethren should continue to support them as tar as their circumstances would allow . This pledge having been coupled with the name of Bro . Hopwood , a L . G . of

each Charity , that brother made a fitting response . The Tyler having been called upon to discharge his duty , the proceedings terminated . In the intervals of the toasts Bros . Knowles , Jessett , Piller , Hammond , and others entertained the brethren with some good vocalisation . ( Continued on page in . )

John William Warland and Mr . unanimously in their favour . Mr . Hooper was not present , but Mr . J . Helmsley Hunt , who was balloted for and elected at the last meeting , being present , with Mr . maimer . The W . held once a fortnight .

Llew . White , P . P . G . S . W . Glos ., a rare absentee , who was not present , owing to ill health , and his absence was not only felt in the working of the lodge , but particularly at the supper table , where his cheery voice never fails to enliven those around him .
