UNITED GRAND LODGE AND THE GRAND LODGE OF ILLINOIS . To the Editor of the "Freemason . " Dear Sir and Brother , Members of Giand Lodge cannot be insensible to the affront offered to it by the Grand Lodge of the American State of Illinois , in stigmatising the three lodges at Montreal which are under English jurisdiction as illegal ,

irregular , and recusant lodges , and interdicting Masonic relations with the members of them . Ihe gravamen of the allegation is this—these three lodges were established from 50 to 60 years ago ; their members are Englishmen ; their offence ia that they will not renounce their allegiance to the Grand Lodge of England—their mother Giand Lodge—to which they continue to make regular returns , and look to it for support and advice in difficulties . England is powerful and dignified ; its Masonic authority extends over the four quarters of the globe ; but it is because it is thus powerful and widely extended that it is jealous of its prerogative , and cannot afford that the weakest or the remotest of its allied brethren should be treated as usurpers , as irregular Masons , as illegal pretenders . cannot be stamped as counterfeit with impunity , and it is to vindicate this principle with regard to the St . Paul , St . George , and St . , and Provincial Masonic Institutions . Particulars are also given about the Masonic Hall , and there is a chronological table of events relating to the Craft doings in the town of Lancaster . The Calendar , in short , is as useful for what it contains as it is neatly put together and portable . We may mention that Bro .
