in all large Masonic districts . JAMAICA , —The Freemasons of this district have bid it in contemplation for some time to set up a memorial of their late D . G . Master , Bro . Dr . Hamilton . It is not simply as the head of English Freemasonry in this island that the memory of the worthy gentleman is cherished ; but as a great and good Mason generally , proved by the

fact that brethren of the Scoich Constitution have , equally with their English brethren , been ready with their contributions to carry out the object in visw . A sum of £ 100 has been collected , and a Committee has been appointed to consider and decide what form the memorial shall tike , to consist of the R . W . the District Grand Mister , the Deputy District Grand Master , and Bros . J . W . Whitbourne , P . D . D . G . ; Wm . Duff , A . E . Burke , John McLean , and

THE UNEMPLOYED IN EAST LONDON . —At a time when much thought is being given to this matter , a practicil su ^ gesti n may be of service . Last year more than £ 300 . 000 worth of foreign matches were purchased by inconsiderate consumers in this country , so true is it

that " evil is wrought by want of thought , as well as want of hoait . " If all consumers would purchase Bryant and May ' s Matches , that firm would ba enabled to pay £ 1000 a week more in wages , and large numbers of the unemployed of East London would thus bs provided with work , instead of swelling the ranks of pauperism . —ADVT .

Ralph Gooding , P . G . D ., The Grove , Blackheath , S . E .

THE EIFFEL TOWER . —One of the chief attractions of the Paris Exhibition will doubtless be the extraordinary iron tower which the ingenuity of M . Eiffel os rearing in the grounds . It is more than twice as high as the Great Pyra nid , nearly three times as high as the topmost point of thj Invalides in Paris , while comparing it with buildings in London , we find thit after douoling the

height of St . Paul ' s Cathedral , we should have to go 176 feet higher . It seems probable that many people will not care to go to this stupendous height , but on the first platform , which is sone 30 fe ; t lo . ver than Notre Dam ; , there need be no f ar of vertigo , while a superb view of Paris will bd obtainable . Hereon the south-west side there will be a commodious restaurant , with a joint , luncheon , and dinin *

room , and English and American bars , which have been placed under the management of Messrs . Spiers and Pond . It should be noted also that this first floor of the Eiffel Tower , which is very spacious , will be covered in , and visitors can ascend to it comfortably , for there are four lifts , so that it is likely to be a very popular resort during the Exhibition .

She will sing at the Albert Hill on the 22 nd inst .

FREE LIBRARIES , AND HOW TO PROCURE THEM . —Nothing in the progress we hive made in the last halfcentury has been more remarkable than our advance , as a nation , in the number and value of the public libraries open to rich and poor alike , tree ol direct charge . No doubt this advance has bean due to some extent 10 private munificence , but the working of the Free Libraries Acts has

certainly given a great impetus to the movement . Of late years Mr . Thomas Greenwood , F . R . G . S ., has devoted much of his leisure to the consideration of this question , an 1 the b : st mems of furthering it . The result os his experience he givts us in " Frje Public Libraries " ( Simpkin , Marshall , and Co . ) , and the work is one that we can heartily commend to any of our readers who may be

interested in the extension of facilities for the spread of pure and wholesome literature . Hints as to the organisation , fitting - up , arranging , and working of large or small libraries will be found here , as well as useful statistics of the work already done in this direction . Mr . Greenwood is also the author of a companion work on " Museums and Art Galleries" ( same publishers ) , in which he deals with

his new topic in the same practical and helpful manner , describing what has been done , and shouting what is yet to bj accomplished . —Cassell ' s Family Magazine . HOLLOWAY ' PILLS are strongly recommended to all persons who are much reduced in power and condition , whose stomachs are weak , and whose nerves are shattered . The beneficial effects of these Pills will be perceptible after a few days' trial though a more

extended course may 1 >; required to re-establish perfect health . Holloway ' s medicine acts on the organs of digestion , and induces complete regularity in the stomach , liver , pancreas , and kidneys . This treatment is both safe and certain in result , and is thoroughly consistent with observation , experience , and common sense . The purification of the blood , the removal ot all noxious matter from the secretions , and the excitement of gentle action in the bowels , are the sources of the curative powers of Hollowav's Pills . —Anvr ,

—ADVT .

THE EIFFEL TOWER . —One of the chief attractions of the Paris Exhibition will doubtless be the extraordinary iron tower which the ingenuity of M . Eiffel os rearing in the grounds .

Mr . The beneficial effects of these Pills will be perceptible after a few days' trial though a more
