Sonnet For The Month Of April.

SONNET FOR THE MONTH OF APRIL .

April , spoiled child , comes with his frets and tears , Mark how he frowns and sulks until he cries ; One moment happy , then depressed by fears—Convulsed at will by smiles or whimpering sighs . We never know what gifts to us he'll send , He is an elf so changeable and coy . Upon his temper we can ne ' er depend ,

A petted , pampered , wilful , wanton boy . But yet we love him through each varied mood , If sullen now he soon will laugh once more , And whisper softly , " Oh , I will be good And gay and bright and pleasant as before . " And we believe him , but our trust is vain , For he deceives us o ' er and o ' er again ! CHAS . F . FORSHAW , LL . D . Bradford ,

which was most enthusiastically received , said that Bro . He knew that the position was no sinecure—that the W . M . would have plenty of work to do—but the brethren also knew Bro . Bro . Jostph Huckell , W . M ., thanked the biethren for the way in which they had received the toast . It was nice to know tlat he occupied a snug corner in their hearts . He could say that Bro . Smart , with whom he had been associated in the various offices of the lodge , had been the best of companions , and that he possessed a spirit of camaraderie which he regarded as a most pleaf ant factor in life . He should try to do his work well —it was impossible to do it loo well—and he knew that the sympathy of the brethren would be with him .

In proposing the toast of " Bro . Smart , I . P . M ., " the W . M . thought he might say that his work had been second to none in the lodge . It wai his pleasing duty on behalf of the brethren to present to Bro . Smart , in addition to a Past Master ' s jewel , a silver tea and coffee service , bearing an inscription suitable to the occasion . He trusted he might wear the jewel , and Mrs . Smart employ the service , for many long years to

come . Bro . Smart , in thanking the brethren for the jewel and the very handsome additional testimonial they had bestowed on him , said if he had had a happy and successful year of ollice it had been due to the support he had received from his officers . He had to thank Bro . Harriss , their Secretary , for the way in which he had organised the

Masonic Charity Association . He hoped that when the time came the lodge would take up a larger list than any in the Metropolis . The toasts of "The Initiates , " "The Visitors , " "The Treasurer and Secretary , " "The Past Masters , " and "The Officers , " and the Tyler ' s toast were all duly honoured .
