The annual meeting of the above was held at the County and Borough Halls , Guildford , on Friday . the 28 th ult ., Comp . Colonel John Davis , A . D . C ., G . Superintendent , presiding . The roll of chapters in the province was called over , and the Report of the Audit Committee received .
The following votes were made in aid of the Charities : For the Old People , , £ 5 5 s . was voted to the Male , and £ 5 5 s . for Females ; £ 5 5 * . to the Boys' School , ^ 5 5 s . to the Girls' School , and a special grant of ^ 36 15 s . for the G . The brethren and visitors attending the Prov . G . Chapter and Prov . G , Lodge subsequently dined together in an adjoining room in the same buildirg . At the conclusion of the banquet the customary loyal and-Masonic toasts were proposed and dulv honoured , that of the Grand Officers being coupled with the name of Bro . Rear-Admiral St . Clair .
Bro . Rear-Admiral ST . CLAIR replied in a humorous speech , in which he deprecated having been selected to respond to the toast , but since obedience was the first law , not only in the Navy but also in Masonry , he would comply . He referred to the excellent qualities of Grand Lodge and Prov . Grand Lodge Officers , among which he included that of an excellent digestion —( laughter )—and recommended the brethren if they saw a Grand Officer pass a certain dish to carefully refrain from partaking " of it .
Bro . F . WEST , Dep . G . Master Surrey , proposed " The Health of the R . W Provincial Grand Master of Surrey . * ' Many months had not yet elapsed since Bro . Colonel Davis had been installed , but he had alread y proved himself a good Grand Master —( applause)—and had endeared himself to all who belonged to the Province of Surrey . The first great' principle of their Order was brotherly love , and there could be no successful
ruler who did not possess the love of those he ruled ; their Prov . G . Master was supported by the love of all the brethren in his skilful ruling of Prov . G . Lodge , Another great principle of their Order was Charity , and in that connection he would remind them that the Prov . G . Master was to preside at the next Festival of the Boys' School , and he appealed to them to support him on that occasion in a manner worthy of the Province of Surrey .
Bro . Colonel DAVIS , A . D . C , Prov . G . Master , who was received with loud and prolonged applause , thanked the brethren for the reception they had accorded him , and though as yet , owing to * the short time he had been their Prov . Grand Master , they had to take him a little on trust he assured them he was trying to do his best for Masonry and for the province . He had already visited 12 or 13 of the 45 lodgesof thu province ,
and in the course of the next two or three years "he hoped to become acquainted with them all , and would endeavour , by every means in his power , to deserve the commendation they had bestowed . He had received apologies for unavoi able absence from their gathering from Bros . Lord Lord Onslow , Right Hon . W . W . Bramston Beach , Sir Tere xe O'Brien , Sir Tatton Egerton , R . Grey , E . The Secretary of the R . M . I , for Boys responded , and took the opportunity of appealing at length to the brethren on behalf of that Institution at the next Festival . The Tvler ' s toast brought a most enjoyable gathering to a close .

The ceremony which took place in Durham city on the 26 th ult ., at a special Provincial Grand Lodge , in the installation of Bro . Lord Barnard , P . G . W ., as Provincial Grand Mister of th *; Province of Darham , in succession to the late lamented B * o . Sir Hedworth Williamson , Bart ., may very justly be regarded as one of the most important in the Masonic annals of the Prov . nce of Durham for some years past .
fhe choice made by ths Kin ? , or by tha Prince of Wales , as hia Majesty then was , in appointing Bro . Lord Birnard to succeed the late Brp . Sir Hedworth Williamson as Prov . G . M ., is undoubtedly a very popular one in the province , aid this was fully manifested on the 26 : h ult . in the very large and representative attendance of the Craft , not only from all parts of the Province of Du .-nam , but from other neighbouring provinces .
lhe weather was beautifully fine for the occasion , and the whole proceedings in connection with the installation were carried out under the happiest auspices . The large lecture hall in Palace Green was fitted upas a temporary lodge room for thi occasion , ' its reioarces being taxed to the utmost in consequence of the large numbers attending . In stating the object of the meeting , the PRO G . MASTER observed that whilst they h id to rej lice in the accession of a new ruler in their Order , they could not but remember ho , v that vacancy was caused . For many years he had the honour and the pleasure of being numbered among the friends ot their late Prov . G . M ., is undoubtedly a very popular one in the province , aid this was fully manifested on the 26 : h ult . in the very large and representative attendance of the Craft , not only from all parts of the Province of Du .-nam , but from other neighbouring provinces .
lhe weather was beautifully fine for the occasion , and the whole proceedings in connection with the installation were carried out under the happiest auspices . The large lecture hall in Palace Green was fitted upas a temporary lodge room for thi occasion , ' its reioarces being taxed to the utmost in consequence of the large numbers attending . G . Lodge bjing shortly afterwards opsned 1 " due form . A few minutes later came the Pro G . Master of England . Bro * the Rght Hon . Earl Amherst , accompanied by the Officers of the . G . -anJ Lodge and other distinguished visitors .
In stating the object of the meeting , the PRO G . MASTER observed that whilst they h id to rej lice in the accession of a new ruler in their Order , they could not but remember ho , v that vacancy was caused . For many years he had the honour and the pleasure of being numbered among the friends ot their late Prov . G . Master , and he was sure that all thoss who knew hit * " *' would not soon forget the kindly feeling and the shrewd good sense wlncj distinguished him so much and for so long among the Masons of Eng land'
