his pleasure at seeing visitors at the lodge , but as time was getting short he had to leave out much he would like to have said . The toast met with a hearty reception . In response , Bro . J . Garrod , P . M . 754 , said he felt a double pleasure in being a visitor—one on account of his long friendship with Bro . Free , whom he sincerely congratulated on obtaining the high honour in the lodge .

He had also the pleasure of knowing many of its members Masonically , with whom he had worked—notably , the respected Secretary , Bro . Fenner . He congratulated the W . M . on his elevation to that office , and sincerely trusted he would have a successful and happy year of Mastership . Having Feemasonry at heart , he would like to make a long speech , but as Father Time was inexorable he must

conclude , with many thanks for the handsome manner he had been received in the lodge , also at the banquet table . The other visitors followed in short speeches . The toast of "The P . M . 's , Treasurer , and Secretary " ( combined ) was given in a very telling speech , which was received with approbation . The toast was responded to by Bro . C . Patrick , P . M .,

the Treasurer , and Secretary in brief speeches , but very much to the point . " 1 he Officers " was next on the list , which was duly honoured , Bro . G . H . Clarke , S . W ., responding on their behalf in a very nice speech , which was much appreciated . The Tyler's toast brought to a close one of the most

enjoyable evenings ever spent in the Upton Lodge . Bro . Sherwin , as usual , conducted the musical arrangements , Bros . Patrick , P . M ., Free , P . M ., and G . H . Clark , S . W ., ably assisting by singing some excellent songs , which added considerably to the evening's enjoyment .

NEW CROSS LODGE ( No . 1559 ) . —On Wednesday , the 12 th ult ., an emergency meeting of this prosperous lodge was held at the Portland Hotel , Londonstreet , Greenwich . The lodge was opened by Bro . F . W . Cash , W . M ., who was supported by Bros . C . Grassi , I . P . M . ; J . D . Graham , S . W . ; J . H . Meyer , J . W . ;

T . Grummant , P . M ., Sec ; and W . Cowley , P . M ., D . C . Mr . Rodolphe Volpicelli was initiated , the ceremony being performed by his old friend , Bro . C . Grassi , I . P . M . Bro . Homer was raised to the Degree of M . M ., and Bro . G . H . Boncey , 79 , was elected a joining member . The lodge was then closed .

ANGLO-AMERICAN LODGE ( No . 2191 ) . — The rhgular meeting of this lodge was held at the Criterion , Piccadilly , S . W ., on Tuesday , the iSth ult . The lodge was opened by Bro . Adolphus Clark , W . M . The minutes of the last meeting were read and confirmed . Many regrets were read from brethren excusing their non-attendance , through absence from town . Ballots were taken for

Messrs . W . R . Stretton and W . R . Paul , and , proving unanimous , those gentlemen were initiated . Bro . J . O . Roche was unanimously elected a joining member , and Bro . C . A . Ronaasen was passed to the Degree of F . C . A telegram was received from Bros . George Reynolds , Sec , and John Skinner , D . C , at New Vork , U . S . A ., conveying their " Hearty good wishes . " A letter was read from Bro .

Brackstone Baker , P . G . D ., and I . P . M ., thanking the brethren of the lodge for their kind and sympathising vote of condolence in his late bereavement . The lodge was then closed , and the brethren adjourned to an excellent banquet , provided under the personal

superintendence of Bro . Bertini , in the Princes Room . The usual loyal and Masonic toasts were proposed by the W . Master , and the proceedings were further enlivened by the excellent music of Bro . Schartau , the Organist to the lodge , and Bro . W . Honeyball , of the Covent Garden Lodge , and other brethren .

read and confirmed . Bros . T . Thompson and T . VV . Kingston were raised to the Sublime Degree of M . M . The entire ceremony was given , and all present were exceedingly pleased with the very correct , painstaking , and most impressive manner in which this all-important ceremony was rendered by their W . M , and the visitors present expressed themselves as very greatly pleased . The same

remark applies to all the officers . It was stated that the Prov . G . Sec . Middx . had expressed it as his opinion that the best way would be for the lodge to send up three names , who must all be P . M . 's or VV . M ., for the P . G . M . to select for provincial honours ; and the lodge resolved to do this . The case of distress of a widow of a late highly-respected member was brought under the notice

of the lodge , and her petitions for relief were unanimously recommended to be signed . Some gentlemen were unanimously proposed for initiation at the next meeting—in May . The lodge was closed , and adjourned till Saturday , May iSth , 1889 . Bro . Frederick Walters , P . M ., P . P . G . D ., directly the lodge was closed , claimed the attention of all

who were present whilst he cordially and heartily wishedaccording to his custom— " A very Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year" to every member of the lodge . The usual banquet followed . The motion was unanimously agreed to , and there being no further business on the agenda paper , lodge was closed , and the brethren dined together , and spent a very pleasant evening .

his pleasure at seeing visitors at the lodge , but as time was getting short he had to leave out much he would like to have said . The toast met with a hearty reception . In response , Bro . J . Garrod , P . M . 754 , said he felt a double pleasure in being a visitor—one on account of his long friendship with Bro . Free , whom he sincerely congratulated on obtaining the high honour in the lodge .

He had also the pleasure of knowing many of its members Masonically , with whom he had worked—notably , the respected Secretary , Bro . Fenner . He congratulated the W . M . on his elevation to that office , and sincerely trusted he would have a successful and happy year of Mastership . Having Feemasonry at heart , he would like to make a long speech , but as Father Time was inexorable he must

conclude , with many thanks for the handsome manner he had been received in the lodge , also at the banquet table . The other visitors followed in short speeches . The toast of "The P . M . 's , Treasurer , and Secretary " ( combined ) was given in a very telling speech , which was received with approbation . The toast was responded to by Bro . C . Patrick , P . M .,

the Treasurer , and Secretary in brief speeches , but very much to the point . " 1 he Officers " was next on the list , which was duly honoured , Bro . G . H . Clarke , S . W ., responding on their behalf in a very nice speech , which was much appreciated . The Tyler's toast brought to a close one of the most

enjoyable evenings ever spent in the Upton Lodge . Bro . Sherwin , as usual , conducted the musical arrangements , Bros . Patrick , P . M ., Free , P . M ., and G . H . Clark , S . W ., ably assisting by singing some excellent songs , which added considerably to the evening's enjoyment .

NEW CROSS LODGE ( No . 1559 ) . —On Wednesday , the 12 th ult ., an emergency meeting of this prosperous lodge was held at the Portland Hotel , Londonstreet , Greenwich . read and confirmed . Bros . T . Thompson and T . VV . Kingston were raised to the Sublime Degree of M . M . The entire ceremony was given , and all present were exceedingly pleased with the very correct , painstaking , and most impressive manner in which this all-important ceremony was rendered by their W . M , and the visitors present expressed themselves as very greatly pleased . The same

remark applies to all the officers . It was stated that the Prov . G . Sec . Middx . had expressed it as his opinion that the best way would be for the lodge to send up three names , who must all be P . M . 's or VV . M ., for the P . G . M . to select for provincial honours ; and the lodge resolved to do this . The case of distress of a widow of a late highly-respected member was brought under the notice

of the lodge , and her petitions for relief were unanimously recommended to be signed . Some gentlemen were unanimously proposed for initiation at the next meeting—in May . The lodge was closed , and adjourned till Saturday , May iSth , 1889 . Bro . Frederick Walters , P . M ., P . P . G . D ., directly the lodge was closed , claimed the attention of all
