PARACELSUS .

Whose names werc properly , it seems , Philippus Aureolus Thcophrastus Paracelsus Bombast von Hohcnheim—was born in 1493 , and died in 1541 . His father was a medical man , and he devoted himsilf to the study of medicine also ; but he superadded researches in chemistry , alchemy , an d hermeticism . The accounts of Paracelsus are various and contradictory . According to some writers hc was genial

and able , profoundly learned , and most intellectual ; according to others hc was to a great extent illiterate , quarrelsome , given to debauchery , and semiinsane . His work were first published by Hufer in 1589-90 , antl no doubt in his alchemical and hermetic speculations some of the high grade and German Rose Csoix teaching may be found by the curious sc archer .
