The lodge having been opened and the minutes confirmed , the VV . M . advanced seven brethren to the honourable Degree of M . M . M ., the ceremony being performed in a very able and impressive manner . The next and most important business of the evening was the presentation of a very handsome and costly silver salver to Bro . Capt . R . Croisdale , P . M ., P . P . G . S . D ., & c , who is under orders to
proceed to Hong Kong , China . The presentation was made by Bro . Eve , P . M ., P . P . G . W ., & c , who said it gave him very great pleasure to be the humble means on behalf of the members of the lodge of expressing their thorough appreciation of the manner in which Bro . Capt . Croisdale had always done his duty as a Mason in every degree to which he had the honour to belong , and
the regret the brethren had that his duty to his Queen and country necessitated his severing for the present that harmonious companionship he had for many years enjoyed . He had an additional pleasure in being there that evening , and having the honour of making the presentation , because the cost , whatever it might be , of the salver was defrayed by the subscriptions of individual members of the Masonic
Fraternity who knew his worth , and that must be far more gratifying to Bro . Capt . Croisdalc's feelings than any vote from the lodge funds could possibly have been . He wished their worthy brother every happiness during his sojourn abroad , and trusted it might please the G . O . O . T . U . to bless him with health and strength , and that he might return to Aldershot , and find that his work was good and
his example followed . Bro . Capt . Croisdale , in responding , said hc was sure the brethren would feel that he meant what he said when he stated that he could not find words to adequately express his thanks to Bro . Eve for the too flattering terms in which he had been pleased to speak of his services , and to the brethren for the hearty manner in which they
received them , and he only hoped that he might always deserve their good wishes , and that he might yet be worthy of the esteem in which , as their very handsome present that evening had proved , they held him . He trusted that he might be spared to return to Aldershot to renew that Masonic acquaintanship from which he had derived so much pleasure . He thanked the brethren very heartily for
the very handsome and costly present they had made him , which he could assure them would be always viewed by his family and himself with feelings of very great pleasure and pride . He earnestly hoped that their lodge would continue to flourish , and that they would never cease to endeavour to make the glorious principles of Mark Masonry the standard of their daily lives and actions , and concluded
with a heartfelt wish that the G . O . O . T . U . would sanctify their efforts and bless them in their results . The lodge was then closed , and the brethren retired to the banquet room and partook of an excellent banquet . The VV . M . presided , supported by his officers and P . M . 's . Some very excellent songs were sung by Bros . Eve , Hacker , Blades , Cope , Greenwood , Hall , Hitching , and others .
The proceedings terminated by the brethren joining handin-hand and singing most heartily "Auld lang syne , " and earnest heartfelt wishes from each and all that their esteemed Bro . Capt . Croisdale and his family might have a pleasant voyage , and that the G . O . O . T . U . would bless and preserve them in health and strength to return to their native land . _____

The only work before the lodge was the advancement of Bro . J . Hunter , 1536 , and the ceremony was admirably performed by the VV . M . and his officers . At the refreshment board the usual loyal and M . M . toasts
were duly honoured , that of "The Queen and Mark Masonry " drawing from the VV . M . the remark that just now , when war abroad and discontent at home prevailed , it was only right that the loyal and affectionate regard all true Masons had for the person of her Most Gracious Majesty should be evinced unmistakably upon every possible occasion , especially at their meetings ; and he was proud to sav
that her Majesty the Queen had none more devoted to her and her throne than the Freemasons of Woolwich , and he believed wherever the tenets of Freemasonry were taught and carried out . The toast was drunk with enthusiasm . Bro . Penfold proposed "The W . M . " in eulogistic terms , and Bro . Holleyman suitably responded . The other toasts , such as "The Past Masters , " "The
Advancee , " " The Officers , " & c , followed . In proposing a special toast of "Our Gallant Army in Egypt / ' tne W . M . dwelt eloquently on the splendid qualities of General Wolseley and those under him . Lord Granville had recently stated in the House of Lords that one of the most distinguished soldiers on the Continent , in speaking of the British soldiers in the Soudan , said "they are not only soldiers , they are heroes . " As a military lodge
they had contributed to those heroes , and then and there were present several who not only expected to be called upon , but were ready if called upon to go at an hour's notice . He and those at that table were enjoying themselves , and he asked them to drink to "Our Army in Egypt" with honours . The toast was drunk with cheers , and . . after "The Masonic Press" had been toasted , and our respresentative had returned thanks , the Tyler's toast and "God Save the Queen" closed the proceedings .

Mark Masonry.
