After the minutes of the previous meeting had been read and confirmed , the ballot was taken for and
was unanimous in favour of Mr . Edwin Cutler , and the ceremony of initiation was admirably performed by the retiring W . M ., Bro . W . F . Stratford , Bro . A . Sidell , VV . M . elect , rendering the charge in an excellent manner . The ceremony of installing Bro . A . Sidell then took place , and toe much credit cannot be accorded to Bros . Stratford and J , H . Guyton , the former doing the installing portion , and
the latter the charges , for their excellent and correct working . Bro . A . J . Berry acted as D . C . Upon being placed in the chair of K . S ., the newly-installed W . Other lodge business followed , and " Hearty good wishes " being given by the visiting brethren , the lodge was closed . The brethren then adjourned to a most recherche banquet , at the conclusion of which the usual loval and Masonic
toasts were given , and duly acknowledged . The P . G . M ., in replying to the toast of "The Officers of Grand Lodge , Present and Past , " observed that he did so as an ex-officio officer belonging to the Grand Lodge of England . In reference to the Earl of Lathom , his lordship
said he had no doubt that distinguished brother was well known to most of them , for he himself had a lively recollection of the Deputy Grand Master taking part in the installation of himself ( Lord Suffield ) as P . G . M . of Norfolk , and , on behalf of the Grand Officers of England , he thanked those present for the hearty reception they had given the
toast . In giving the toast of "The P . G . M ., " the VV . M . observed that to those yvho knew him , he was sure they would sympathise with him for the onerous duty of proposing so noble a toast as that then before them . Words would fail him in expressing the feelings of himself and the lodge of the pleasure they felt at the presence of his lordship . To say
that they honoured him and welcomed him was simple enough , but he hoped the brethren would show their appreciation by drinking the toast with the utmost enthusiasm . Lord Suffield , on rising was received with immense cheering , after which he said that it was not difficult for him to reply , for he felt their kindness not only on that , but on all occasions . It gave him great pleasure to visit the lodge .
In the first place , for the admirable working , and in that he was corroborated by the D . P . G . M . The working of Bro . Stratford , P . M ., was excellent , and the addresses in the ceremony of installation by Bro . Guyton , P . M ., were admirable . The beauty of those addresses were clearly shown
by Bro . Guyton ' s rendering . It had been some time since he ( Lord Suffield ) had witnessed an installation , and he should be glad soon again to see it in a similar manner he had witnessed that evening . His lordship observed that his visit was of a spontaneous character , but he was most satisfied at the proficiency in working displayed . He had every

desire to visit lodges , and he hoped it would not be long before he was able to do so again . With reference to the appointment of the D . P . G . M ., he always had a desire for Bro . Hamon Le Strange to fulfil that office , and it was a source of great pleasure that the appointment was the choice of the brethren of the province . Bro . Hamon Le Strange , " was of a most genial character , and whatever his duties .
were he would be always willing to do them in a Masonic and good manner , and would fully represent him ( his lordship ) in his absence . Lord Suffield , in conclusion , said that it grieved him he was obliged , in consequence of his duties , ' to be so long absent from them , but he would do all he could for the success of the province , and thanked those present for the heartiness of the reception they had given him .
Ihe Worshipful Master , in giving the toast of "The D . P . G . M ., and the rest of the Prov . Grand Officers , Present and Past , " did so in eulogistic terms , observing that he had no doubt the D . P . G . M . was present at the meeting at considerable inconvenience to himself . However , he ( the VV . M . ) had no doubt they were pleased to see the D . P . G . M ., and would join in giving him a hearty reception
on every occasion they might be honoured by his presence . The W . M . also coupled the names of Bros . G . W . G . Barnard , P . G . Sec , and J . S . Offord , P . G . Treas ., for the Present , and Bro . J . B . Bridgman for the Past Officers . The D . P . G . M ., in reply , said he had great pleasure in attending the lodge , and re-echoed the words of the P . G . M . upon the work , as although he belonged to a London lodge
he had observed that the further one got from the centre the better the work was done . The work , as performed by the Master who had left the chair ( Bro . W . F . Stratford ) , was a pattern to all Masons , and he agreed with the way Bro . Stratford had adopted of dividing some portion of the work , giving the S . W ., Bro . Sidell , the duty of delivering the charge , which he characterised as
admirably rendered . It not only worked well , but gave inferior officers and past officers an interest in the work . When a W . M . undertook the whole of the work it was a great labour , but with help it made his after duties much easier . The D . P . G . M . observed that he should like to repeat the remarks made two nights previous as to wearing Masonic jewels contrary to the regulations laid down in the Book of
Constitutions , and he would ask the co-operation of W . M . ' s of lodges in that respect . Nothing would be more annoying than to see brethren abusing one of the fundamental rules of Grand Lodge . He would also deprecate the use of pockets . Jewels of each Degree should only be worn when brethren were engaged in the Degree to which they appertained . He was also glad to see the office of D . of C
entrusted toa P . M . The D . of C . was to guide the brethren , and no brother could do so unless he was in a position to speak from personal and practical experience . There were many little matters in the etiquette of Freemasonry which only a P . M . could know . The D . P . G . M ., in conclusion , thanked the brethren for their kindness to him on that and all other occasions .
Bros . Barnard , Offord , and Bridgman also responded . The W . M . then gave the toast of "The W . M . ' s of other Lodges Present " and "The Visitors , " coupling the names of Bros . P . Noverre , Durndell , Mills , and Paull , who duly acknowledged the same . The Initiate also responded to the toast of his success , proposed by the W . M .
The Prov . Grand Master then proposed " The Health of the Newly-installed W . M ., Bro . A . Sidell , " observing that as he had been deputed to propose the same , he might say that he had rarely seen a more impressive ceremony than he had that night . He was sure Bro . Sidell would be equal
to the duties devolving upon him , and emulate the example of his predecessors . His lordship said he was sure Bro . Sidell would not have been appointed had he not borne the respect of the brethren , and been equal to the arduous duties devolving upon the VV . M . of the lodge . His lordship wished the W . M . a successful and pleasant year of office .
The W . M ., in reply , said that if he felt he deserved half the kind words spoken of him and genial action shown him he would be satisfied , but he hoped he should feel convinced he deserved them before his year of office had expired . He would do his best as far as he could to follow in the footsteps of his predecessors , and carefully preserve the honour and reputation of the lodge . Thanking the brethren for
the honour they had done him in placing him in the chair , he concluded b y assuring the brethren he would do his best during the coming 12 months . The D . P . G . M . then gave the toast of "The I . P . M ., Bro . VV . F . Stratford , " and expressed a hope that full justice should be done to the same . Bro . Stratford had done his duty well not only in this , but in other Degrees where he
( the D . P . G . M . ) had met him . He had learned that Bro . Stratford had had a most successful year of office , and hoped he would live long to come amongst them . The D . P . G . M . than presented Bro . Stratford with a handsome Past Master's jewel , subscribed for by the members of the lodge , bearing the following inscription on the back : " Presented by the officers and brethren of
Cabbell Lodge , No . S 07 , to Bro . William Farrow Stratford on his retiring from the chair , as a token of esteem and fraternal affection . Jan . 29 th , 1891 . " The D . P . G . M . concluded by observing that in asking Bro . Stratford to accept the present , he hoped it would recall many pleasant evenings and of good work done in the chair , and of the respect felt by the brethren , and that he would
live for many years to appreciate the present . Bro . Stratford , in reply , said he thanked the D . P . G . M . for his kind words , and the brethren for their hearty reception of the toast . He hoped they were all satisfied with the way he had done his duty during the past year , and he would help their present or any W . M . in the future . Asfar as laid in his power he would do all he could for the success
of the Cabbell Lodge . The P . G . Treasurer gave the toast of " The Past Masters of the Lodge , " coupling the names of Bros . T . Campling , P . M . ; H . Rosling , P . M . j and J . H . Guyton , P . M . ; who duly responded . Bros . G . Baxter , G . E . Theobald , and A . Holmes replied
for " The Officers of the Lodge . " The toast of "The Ladies" and the Tyler ' s toast concluded a very pleasant evening . During the evening Bros . G . Baxter , J . S . Offord , J . H . Brockbank , F . Stackard , A . J . Berry , Horsley , and others rendered some excellent songs , Bro . C Campling
accompanying . We congratulate Bros . VV . F . Stratford and A . Sidell , the former upon his most successful year of office , and the latter upon the pleasant augury of his incoming year . The jewel was manufactured by Bro . George Kenning .

NORWICH . Cabbell Lodge ( No . 807 ) . —The installation meeting of this lodge was held on Thursday , January 29 th , at the Masonic Club , St .
M . appointed the following as his officers for the ensuing year Bros . W . F . Stratford , I . P . M . ; G . E . Theobald , S . W A . G . Holmes , J . W . ; S . N . Berry , P . M ., Treas . ; G .
