they would not be in a hurry to make their lodge numerically strong ; let them continue to be as careful in the future as they had been in the past , not to introduce anyone into the Order unless they were morally convinced they would prove to be a credit to the Craft . In this respect he felt they had hitherto been exceedingly fortunate , inasmuch as it was easy to perceive their initiates had been deeply impressed that Freemasonry was a great reality , that its true teachings

were worthy of their attention and study , and it was very encouraging to the founders to find their initiates so zealously endeavouring to become a real working element in their lodge . He trusted they would long continue to work in a similar direction , and he was quite sure their reward would follow . After some other business of a formal nature the lodge was closed in the usual manner .

ACTON . —The Priory Lodge of Acton ( No . Igg ( 5 ) . —The first meeting of this new and prosperous lodge ( after its consecration by W . Bro . Col . Shadwell H . Clerke , G . S ., on the 3 rd of Alay last ) , was held at the Royal Oak Assembly Rooms , on Monday , the 2 nd instant . The lodge was opened by Bro . Wm . Roebuck , P . G . S ., P . P . G . S . W . Middx . P . AI . & che being the first W . AI .,

, , assisted by Bros . Botley , S . W . ; George Wright , J . VV . ; Botley , S . D . ; Monson , jun ., J . D . ; Caussule , I . G . ; Earl , Treas . ; and Sugg , P . P . G . O . Surrey , Sec Visitors : Bros . Col . Peters , G . S . B . ; Turner , P . M . 14 , P . G . S . ; and VV V . Blake . , The minutes having been read and confirmed , a ballot was taken for Mr . " J . R . Ward as initiate and Bros .

Hodges and Cardus as joining members , who , all having been duly elected , Mr . J . R . Ward was initiated into Masonry by the W . M . The bye-laws then were approved and the lodge was closed in solemn form . The brethren afterwards adjourned to the George and Dragon Hotel , where a sumptuous banquet was served . On the removal of the cloth the usual loyal and Alasonie toasts were given by the W . M . to

The toast of " The Grand Officers" was responded by Bro . Col . Peters , who afterwards proposed the toast of "The W . M , " who in reply complimented the officers Of the lodge for their efficient working . Bros . Turner and Blake returned thanks for "The Visitors , " and the Tyler ' s toast closed the Alasonie proceedings ; but the excellent musical contributions of many of the brethren kept the company together for some time afterwards .

PERCY LODGE ( No . 19 8 ) . —A meeting of this lodge was held at the Jolly Farmers , Southgatc-road , Islington , on Saturday , the 16 th ult . Present : Bros . A . Ferrar , W . M . ; C Weeden , S . W . ; B . J . VV . Lone , J . W . ; Pearcy , Preceptor ; A . W . Fenner , acting Sec ; C . Lorkin , S . D . ; H . Al . Blcakley , J . D . ; J . Manger , I . G . ; also Bros . F . Brasted , A . M . Lodge was opened in regular form . The minutes of the last meeting were read and confirmed and the lodge opened in the Second Degree . Bro . Alarks gave satisfactory proofs of his proficiency as a F . C . and was entrusted . Lodge was then opened in the Third Degree and the ceremony of raising rehearsed , Bro . Marks being the

candidate . Bro . Lorkin worked the Third Section of the Lecture , assisted by the brethren . Lodge was closed down to the First Degree , and Bro . Lorkin worked the First Section of the Lecture , assisted by the brethren . Bro . Charles Weeden was elected W . AI . for the ensuing week . Lodge was then closed and adjourned . Degree , when Bro . Payne answered the usual questions leading to the Third Degree and was entrusted . Lodge was advanced to the Third Degree , and the ceremony of raising rehearsed , including the traditional history , Bro . Payne being the candidate . Lodge was called off to refreshment and on to labour . Lodge was closed in the Third and Second Decrees . Bro . Fenner worked the Second Section of the

First Lecture , assisted by the brethren . Bro . A . AI . Alarks was appointed W . M . for the ensuing week , after which the lodge was closed and adjourned . Bro . Charles Lorkin , the Treasurer of this lodge of instruction rehearsed the ceremony of installation on Saturday , the 30 th ult ., that being the last meeting previous to the adjournment of the iodge for the months of July and August .

EUPHRATES LODGE ( No . 212 ) . —A meeting of this lodge was held at the Mother Red Cap , Camden Town , on Monday evening , 25 th ult ., when there were present Bros . Smith , W . M . ; Salter , S . VV . ; Lindfield , J . W . ; Dean , P . AI ., S . D . ; Chamberlayne , J . D . ; Sheppard , I . G . ; and Collier , P . M ., Preceptor . The lodge was opened in due form and the minutes of last

meeting read and confirmed . The First Section was worked . Bro . Sheppard having offered himself a candidate , the ceremony of initiation was rehearsed . It was decided that the lodge adjourn until October next , and the W . M . and officers of the mother lodge be the officers on the evening of reassembling . It was also carried

unanimously that a record be placed on the minutes of the great gratification to the lodge in Bro . Dean , P . M . 417 , LP . M . and Treas . 1900 , and P . G . S . D . Dorset , and Treasurer of the lodge , being elected a member of the Board of General Purposes at the Quarterly Communication ¦ n June last , Bro . The First Section having been worked by the brethren , the ceremony of initiation was well rehearsed for the first time by Bro . Johnson , who received the thanks of the lodge for the proficiency he displayed . Bro . Bate delivered the charge in

good style , and the Preceptor then lectured on the first tracing board . Lodge was called off for entry drill and called on . Bro . Chapman was elected a member . Bro . James Stevens having been elected W . AI . and Installing Master for the rehearsal of the installation ceremony this ( Friday ) evening , lodge was closed and adjourned .

HYDE PARK LODGE ( No . 1425 ) . —The usual weekly meeting of this lodge of instruction was held on Monday evening , the 2 nd inst ., at the Fountain's Abbey Hotel , in , Praed-street , Paddington , under the presidency of Bro . Chalfont , W . M . 1425 , W . M . The minutes having been read and confirmed , the ceremony of initiation was rehearsed , and the First and Second Sections of the Third

Lecture were worked by Bro . G . Read , P . AI . 511 , Preceptor . After the lodge was closed , a meeting of the benevolent society attached to the lodge of instruction took place , when the Secretary read the bye-laws agreed upon by a committee elected for the purpose , the officers of the society being Bros . George Read , P . AI . 511 , President ; W . H .

Chalfont , W . AI . 1425 , Vice-President ; H . E . Dehane , W . AI . 1543 , Secretary and Treasurer ; and the following Committee : Bros . A . Hardy , 201 ; J . T . Alickelburgh , P . M . 1425 ; J . This society commenced at the beginning of April this year , and three of its members have aVready become life subscribers of Masonic Institutions , one

making choice of the Girls' and the other two the Boys ' School . The lodge meets weekly ( ATondays ) all the year round , and offers a favourable opportunity at the present time when so many lodges of instruction have adjourned for the summer , for brethren to attend , and who are cordially invited to do so . Business commences at S p . m .

TREDEGAR LODGE ( No . 1625 ) . —At the meeting of this lodge , held at the Royal Hotel , Mile Endroad , there were present Bros . H . Alarks , W . AI . ; B . Franks , S . W . ; Oxley , J . W . ; Stewart , S . D . ; Hubbert , J . D . ; Eastland , I . G . ; D . Aloss , S . D . 1275 , Preceptor ; Forss , Turbefield , and others . The lodge was opened in due form and the minutes of the previous meeting read

and confirmed . The ceremony of initiation was then worked , Bro . Eastland acting as candidate , and Bro . Forss working the First , Second , and Third Section of the Lecture , assisted by the brethren . Bro . Turbefield , 1227 , was unanimously accepted as a member ot this lodge , and Bro . Franks was elected VV . M . for the next lodge meeting . The lodge was then closed and adjourned till the 3 rd of September next .

SUNDERLAND . —St . John ' s Chapter ( No , 80 ) . —The regular convocation of this chapter was held at the Masonic Hall , Toward-road , on Tuesday , the 19 th ult . The chapter was opened by the three Principals , E . Comps . Turnbull , Z . ; Tillman , H . ; and Alunro , J . There were also on the dais a good attendance of companions from the various chapters . A ballot was taken for Bros . H . Crisp , H . Pinkney , and Wrightson , all of whom

were unanimously elected . Bro . H . Crisp being in attendance , he was duly exalted to the Degree of a R . A . companion by E . Comp . Turnbull , and the Second and Third Lectures were given in a very impressive manner by the Second and Third Principals . The First Principal then expressed great sympathy with the bereaved parents in the recent calamity at Sunderland , which was heartily supported by all present , and ordered to be recorded on the minutes .

The chapter being closed the brethren retired to the banqueting chamber , where an excellent supper was provided for the companions and visitors . E . Comp . Turnbull was in the chair , and Bro . C . AlcNamara , P . S . 97 , was in the vice-chair . A very agreeable evening was spent , the companions refraining from the usual harmony owing to the feeling on the matter above referred to .

TWICKENHAM . —Francis Burdett Chapter ( No . 1503 ) . —A meeting of this chapter was held at the Albany Hotel , on the 2 Sth ult . Among those present were Comps . Raymond Thrupp , P . G . H . Aliddx ., I . P . Z ., in the chair ; Cama , P . P . G . S . B ., P . Z ., acting H . ; T . C Walls , P . P . G . D . C . Middx ., J . ; S . Saunders , P . S . ; Hosken , ist Assist . P . S . ; and others . Comps . Clark and

Dunkley were visitors . The minutes of the previous meeting having been read and confirmed , the sum of five guineas was voted to Ex . Comp . Cama , which sum had been placed upon his list by the Treasurer of the chapter as Steward to the Royal Alasonie Institution for Boys subject to its confirmation by the chapter . Letters of apology were read from Comp . W . Taylor , W . H . Saunders , W . Tomlinson , ALP ., and

others . The ballot was then taken upon behalf of Bro . G . C . Morant , Lodge 1287 , for exaltation , and for Comp . G . J . Dunkley , 65 , as a joining member , and it proved to be unanimous . In consequence of a private engagement the former had written apologising for absence . Previously to the chapter being closed a vote of condolence was passed and directed to be sent to Comp . VV . Taylor , P . Z ., Treas ., who has recently lost his wife after a long and painful illness . At the banquet which followed a few toasts were given and heartily honoured .

LIVERPOOL . —Walton Chapter ( No . 1086 ) . — There was an unusually large gathering of the members of this chapter at the Skelmersdale Alasonie Hall , Kirkdale , on today week . The M . E . John Lunt yery impressively performed the installation of Principals for the ensuing year , and a vote of thanks was unanimously passed . The following are the new officers : Compi . J . Savage , M . D . of C , on behalf of the chapter , a beautiful " Tantalus " in oak , with rich silver mountings . Comp . Wells returned thanks for the kind consideration the members had invariably extended to him . 'The chapter then bioke up for the summer vacation of three months .

HAMPTON . —Lebanon Chapter ( No . 1326 ) . — A regular convocation of this chapter was held at the Lion Hotel , on Thursday , the 21 st ult ., Ex . Comp . J . Stevens , P . Z . 720 , 771 , acting M . E . Z ., in the absence of ALE . Comp . John Carthcr Woodrow . There were also present Ex . Comps . C . VV . Fox , H . ; John Hammond , P . Z ., J . ; VV . Hammond , P . Z ., P . P . G . ist A . S . to Comps . Stevens , Lardner , and Casson for attendance and assistance , and after some other routine business the chapter was closed . Subsequently the members of the chapter and their visitors partook of an excellent cold collation , and under the presidency of Comp . Stevens enjoyed a social hour or two before separation .

Bendall , 70 G , and Taylor , 1331 , were then balloted for as candidates for advancement and approved , and being in attendance were advanced to the honourable Degree of Al . AI . AI . by the W . M ., Bro . Captain Croisdale , the ceremony being carried out in the impressive and masterl y style for which this lodge has been long distinguished . The bye-laws then were approved and the lodge was closed in solemn form . The brethren afterwards adjourned to the George and Dragon Hotel , where a sumptuous banquet was served . The toast of " The Grand Officers" was responded by Bro . Col . Peters , who afterwards proposed the toast of "The W . M , " who in reply complimented the officers Of the lodge for their efficient working . Bros . Turner and Blake returned thanks for "The Visitors , " and the Tyler ' s toast closed the Alasonie proceedings ; but the excellent musical contributions of many of the brethren kept the company together for some time afterwards .

First Lecture , assisted by the brethren . Bro . A . AI . Alarks was appointed W . M . for the ensuing week , after which the lodge was closed and adjourned . Bro . Charles Lorkin , the Treasurer of this lodge of instruction rehearsed the ceremony of installation on Saturday , the 30 th ult ., that being the last meeting previous to the adjournment of the iodge for the months of July and August .

EUPHRATES LODGE ( No . 212 ) . —A meeting of this lodge was held at the Mother Red Cap , Camden Town , on Monday evening , 25 th ult ., when there were present Bros . Smith , W . M . ; Salter , S . After the lodge was closed , a meeting of the benevolent society attached to the lodge of instruction took place , when the Secretary read the bye-laws agreed upon by a committee elected for the purpose , the officers of the society being Bros . The lodge meets weekly ( ATondays ) all the year round , and offers a favourable opportunity at the present time when so many lodges of instruction have adjourned for the summer , for brethren to attend , and who are cordially invited to do so . and confirmed . The ceremony of initiation was then worked , Bro . Eastland acting as candidate , and Bro . Forss working the First , Second , and Third Section of the Lecture , assisted by the brethren . Bro . Turbefield , 1227 , was unanimously accepted as a member ot this lodge , and Bro . Franks was elected VV . M . for the next lodge meeting . The lodge was then closed and adjourned till the 3 rd of September next .

SUNDERLAND . —St . John ' s Chapter ( No , 80 ) . —The regular convocation of this chapter was held at the Masonic Hall , Toward-road , on Tuesday , the 19 th ult . The chapter was opened by the three Principals , E . Comps . Turnbull , Z . ; Tillman , H . ; and Alunro , J . There were also on the dais a good attendance of companions from the various chapters . A ballot was taken for Bros . H . Crisp , H . Pinkney , and Wrightson , all of whom

were unanimously elected . Bro . H . Crisp being in attendance , he was duly exalted to the Degree of a R . A . companion by E . Comp . Turnbull , and the Second and Third Lectures were given in a very impressive manner by the Second and Third Principals . The First Principal then expressed great sympathy with the bereaved parents in the recent calamity at Sunderland , which was heartily supported by all present , and ordered to be recorded on the minutes .

The chapter being closed the brethren retired to the banqueting chamber , where an excellent supper was provided for the companions and visitors . E . Comp . Turnbull was in the chair , and Bro . C . AlcNamara , P . S . 97 , was in the vice-chair . A very agreeable evening was spent , the companions refraining from the usual harmony owing to the feeling on the matter above referred to .

TWICKENHAM . —Francis Burdett Chapter ( No . 1503 ) . —A meeting of this chapter was held at the Albany Hotel , on the 2 Sth ult . Among those present were Comps . Raymond Thrupp , P . G . H . Aliddx ., I . P . Z ., in the chair ; Cama , P . P . G . S . B ., P . Z ., acting H . ; T . C Walls , P . P . G . D . C . Middx ., J . ; S . Saunders , P . S . ; Hosken , ist Assist . P . Dunkley were visitors . The minutes of the previous meeting having been read and confirmed , the sum of five guineas was voted to Ex . Comp . Cama , which sum had been placed upon his list by the Treasurer of the chapter as Steward to the Royal Alasonie Institution for Boys subject to its confirmation by the chapter . Letters of apology were read from Comp . W . Taylor , W . H . Saunders , W . Tomlinson , ALP ., and

others . The ballot was then taken upon behalf of Bro . G . C . Morant , Lodge 1287 , for exaltation , and for Comp . G . J . Dunkley , 65 , as a joining member , and it proved to be unanimous . In consequence of a private engagement the former had written apologising for absence . Previously to the chapter being closed a vote of condolence was passed and directed to be sent to Comp . VV . Taylor , P . Z ., Treas ., who has recently lost his wife after a long and painful illness . At the banquet which followed a few toasts were given and heartily honoured .
