they would not be in a hurry to make their lodge numerically strong ; let them continue to be as careful in the future as they had been in the past , not to introduce anyone into the Order unless they were morally convinced they would prove to be a credit to the Craft . In this respect he felt they had hitherto been exceedingly fortunate , inasmuch as it was easy to perceive their initiates had been deeply impressed that Freemasonry was a great reality , that its true teachings

were worthy of their attention and study , and it was very encouraging to the founders to find their initiates so zealously endeavouring to become a real working element in their lodge . He trusted they would long continue to work in a similar direction , and he was quite sure their reward would follow . After some other business of a formal nature the lodge was closed in the usual manner .

Turner and Blake returned thanks for "The Visitors , " and the Tyler ' s toast closed the Alasonie proceedings ; but the excellent musical contributions of many of the brethren kept the company together for some time afterwards .

SUNDERLAND . —St . John ' s Chapter ( No , 80 ) . —The regular convocation of this chapter was held at the Masonic Hall , Toward-road , on Tuesday , the 19 th ult . The chapter was opened by the three Principals , E . Comps . Turnbull , Z . ; Tillman , H . ; and Alunro , J . There were also on the dais a good attendance of companions from the various chapters . A ballot was taken for Bros . H . Crisp , H . Pinkney , and Wrightson , all of whom

were unanimously elected . Bro . H . Crisp being in attendance , he was duly exalted to the Degree of a R . A . companion by E . Comp . Turnbull , and the Second and Third Lectures were given in a very impressive manner by the Second and Third Principals . The First Principal then expressed great sympathy with the bereaved parents in the recent calamity at Sunderland , which was heartily supported by all present , and ordered to be recorded on the minutes .

The chapter being closed the brethren retired to the banqueting chamber , where an excellent supper was provided for the companions and visitors . E . Comp . Turnbull was in the chair , and Bro . C . AlcNamara , P . S . 97 , was in the vice-chair . A very agreeable evening was spent , the companions refraining from the usual harmony owing to the feeling on the matter above referred to .

TWICKENHAM . —Francis Burdett Chapter ( No . 1503 ) . —A meeting of this chapter was held at the Albany Hotel , on the 2 Sth ult . Among those present were Comps . Raymond Thrupp , P . G . H . Cama , which sum had been placed upon his list by the Treasurer of the chapter as Steward to the Royal Alasonie Institution for Boys subject to its confirmation by the chapter . others . The ballot was then taken upon behalf of Bro . G . C . Morant , Lodge 1287 , for exaltation , and for Comp . G . J . Dunkley , 65 , as a joining member , and it proved to be unanimous .
