It is entitled " The way of the
World , and promises to be as interesting as " Hearts , " "Joseph's Coat , " "Coals of Fire , " " Life's Atonement , " and " Val Strange , " by the same author . The new story is illustrated by Mr , Hal Ludlow . A conversazione was held on Wednesday evening in connection with the International Fisheries Exhibition in the courts and galleries of the South Kensington Museum .

P ., and Bro . the Alarquis of Hamilton , P . G . S . Warden , took up their position in the first series of concerts . We have great pleasure in announcing that , in addition to the sum of £ 73 17 s . announced at the Boys '
School Festival as having been contributed on behalf of Oxfordshire by three of its lodges , namely , No . 340 , 357 , and 47 S , all of Oxford city , a further sum of £ 11 5 s . has been handed in , by the hands of Bro . R . T . Hodge , W . M . and Steward , from the Thames Lodge , No . 1 S 95 , Henley-on-Thames . This lodge was consecrated less than two years since , and it is , therefore , the more gratifying to find it even
at this early date taking part as a contributing lodge atone of these anniversary gatherings . We regret to announce the death of Bro . the Duke of Marlborough , who expired very suddenly on Thursday , of cardiac syncope , at his residence , 29 Berkeleysquare . His grace was born in iS 22 and will be best remembered in publiclife as having been Lord Lieu tenant of Ireland
in succession to the Duke of Abercorn , Grand Alaster of Ireland , during the closing years of the late Earl of Beaconsfield ' s administration . 'The Duke—then Marquis of Blandford—was initiated into Freemasonry in the Apollo University Lodge , No . 357 , Oxford , in 1843 , but had never taken an active part in the proceedings of the Craft . The Grand Lodge will be opened at the Guildhall .
A very largely attended meeting ot the members of the Liverpool Masonic Hall Committee , under the presidency of Bro . J . Pemberton , chairman , was held on Friday , the 29 th ult ., at the building in Hope-street , Liverpool . The chief business was the election of House Steward , and Bro . James Casey , of the Walton Lodge , No . 10 SG , was elected to that position out of 25 candidates
who had sent in applications . It was unanimously resolved that a subscription portrait in oil of Bro . the Earl of Lathom , Deputy Grand Alaster of England , Provincial Grand Alaster of West Lancashire , should be obtained for the purpose of being hung up in the lodge room of the Masonic Hall , which has recently been decorated with great taste , making it one of the most artistic lodge rooms in the provinces . The proposition was received with
acclamation , and it seems certain that a sufficient sum will be raised amongst the brethren in Liverpool and throughout the province to secure a portrait which will at once do honour to one of the most popular amongst provincial grand masters , and a credit to the Craft in a division which is numerically the strongest under the control of the Grand Lodge . Bro . H . A . Tobias , the treasurer of the fund , received a considerable amount in subscriptions before 'he brethren separated .

Spiers and Pond to erect a very handsome restaurant on the entire site , and that Air . Verity will be employed as their architect .
The Daily News says : Private ' advices by cable received within the last few days state that crop prospects throughout Alanitoba and the Canadian Northwest are of the most satisfactory character . The area under cultivation is much larger than in any previous year ,
and the yield promises to be exceptionally good . In Ontario the agricultural outlook has slightly improved , but the damage done to the autumn wheat has proved irremedi able . In this province , however , as well as in Quebec , thc hay and fruit crops bid fair to be excellent ; there will also be a large output of dairy produce .

On Tuesday morning some commotion was caused at Old Swan Pier , London-bridge , by the arrival of a small open boat of foreign build , which evidently from its seau-orn condition , had made a long sea voyage . The boat in question was the Neptune , belongiag to Norway , 24 feet long , 5 . } feet beam , and 2 feet deep , and in this small cockle-boat the captain and sole occupant , William Johnson , a native of Christiansand , and 4 G years of age .
had made an ocean voyage of about 1 , 000 miles . 1 he Neptune left Drontheim , in Norway , on the ist June , and coasted along the land for about 400 miles to Stavanger , where she took in water , & c , and after one day's stay , to enable her master to take a rest , she left on the 17 th June . of the respected W . AI . of the lodge , Bro . B , Gregson Bros . Bayley , S . VV ., and R . Stanton , J . W ., occupying the vice-chairs . KNOWLKS ' "SPECIAL" FIRE , GARDEN , AND CONSERVATORY ENGINES . —In the notice we gave a few weeks since of this excellent speciality of Air . George Knowles , of 72 , Finsbury Pavement , E . G ., and 54 and 55 , Blackfnars-road , S . E ., we spoke of his fire engine as being , " when fitted with the necessary hose , " equally serviceable for "garden and conservatory purposes . " For
" hose read " rose , " and our statement will be accurate . The engine has a " hose" permanently attached , so that in case of necessity it may be used at a moment ' s notice in extinguishing lire in its earliest stage ; but , as will be easily understood , a " rose" must be placed at the end of the " hose " in order to make it available for " garden and
conservatory purpose . " Ihe reader will perceive this the more readily if he will be at the pains of consulting the illustration in our advertisement columns . We would also add that the engine is portable ; even a servant girl of moderate strength will find no difficulty in earring it—in a perfect state of readiness for use—to any part of the building where it might be required .
